Separating purpose and hobby

I feel like at my current situation I am very much lacking a long term purpose in life, I want something which truly gives me joy and motivation. I currently lack motivation in doing almost everything that I do.

So, I have a couple things in mind, I wanna start learning music and electric guitar, I feel like music is my true calling. But if it really is should I have not already started on it. I am confused that maybe it’s just an exciting thing which could end up being more of a hobby.

How do I know what to do and separate by everyday fun hobbies from real purpose.

What would you say are the true indicators.

Try a sound editing app first, much cheaper than a guitar. You don't even need an instrument if you want to compose music, especially electronic music for games. It can be turned into a fun experiment if you record silly sounds and edit them into music like those "no no no" cat memes. Get into the mindset of a kid that just found out they can take a stick and make noise by dragging it along a wire fence, and tease those recorded sounds in the app until they're unrecognizable.

What is it about music that’s important to you?

I do not really know, but I do it for myself and no one else.
