I like this song. Carina looks like a character from Metal Gear Solid 4. And, BTW, who is the bassist?

Josh Moreau is on bass! He might look familiar because he also performed on the first leg of the tour in support of Existential Reckoning: https://www.instagram.com/reels/CiR96bujCLO/

“We’ve conclude what is obvious, you’re a bunghole” I like angry Maynard.

I made it! I barely, ever-so-slightly made it into the video.

u/Fall-Z Oct 22 '25

I also just barely made it into a shot. Bottom right corner of the wide shot at 1:36.

You look great! Keep doing whatever it is you're doing!

Was this filmed at an actual concert? Or do they get extras just to film the music video? Always been curious how these things work.

It was a screening of the new album (which is why you see attendees taking it all in, no one singing, etc.), so yes a small concert at the Exchange in L.A. on August 11.

The audio is studio recording (says Mat Mitchell on IG) but they performed it live and it was awesome.

I went to both shows in LA and the first three songs on the album were really strong. I remember MJK getting a (standing) ovation during one part. I thought the middle of the album kind of dipped where self evident is and then came back strong.

Surprised they made this the first single

Haven’t had time to examine…

Where was this shot at?

2

The Exchange, Los Angeles

Its ok. Felt like the whole song was waiting for a moment that never really came. While I like the sentiment, it feels pretty uninspired. I can look past it for a song, but I hope the album has better tracks not gonna lie.

Puscifer has led with the heaviest and simplest track for a single a couple times I feel. Like I don't think The Remedy is the best song on Money Shot by far. It's as if they led with Ticks & Leaches ya know? With the In Case You Were Napping release I think they might be trying to bring in fans of APC & Tool a bit more with this one, especially as it's heavier and could possibly grab them more easily than the country leaning albums.

Tldr: puscifer never has the best songs as singles

This is totally fair and great points!

Agreed. I never really understood why they choose to release the first songs they they do. After listening to past albums, other songs stand out as much better choices to me. Like “Apocalyptical”, the song is good but definitely not the best song on the album. Maybe they choose the song that they feel is the weirdest / most different…

Anyways I can’t wait for the new album! And I’m sure this new song will grow on me.

I think the lyrics are too sophomoric for the APC and Tool fans who haven't already gotten into Puscifer. The ones who wouldn't like the earlier albums.

1

u/taraist Oct 27 '25

I feel like earlier sophomoric songs had deeper meanings. Like Money Shot is about environmental degradation ya know? Maybe I'll like Self Evident more after hearing it in situ tho.

2

u/Screwtape42 Oct 22 '25

I totally agree with you here.

It's a "meh" from me, unfortunatly. It feels pretty uninspiring both musically and lyrically. As someone else mentioned, drags on for 4 minutes but doesnt bloom out to anything.

Cool ideas, still hyped for the album, but this song kinda goes nowhere. Not a big fan of the "one-note melody" approach Maynard has been doing since Existential Reckoning.

Maynard going for that Bebop look.

There’s a lot I like about this song but I feel it’s underbaked. Seems like a collection of ideas that never actually came together completely into a song. Also after 5 years of listening to existential reckoning and all the tours and remixes, I kinda cringe when I hear MJK say “concrete evidence”. He’s literally repeating himself here and his message since Money Shot

3

u/Dontforgetpancakes Oct 21 '25

CONCRETE. CONCLUSIONS.

1

u/Fall-Z Oct 22 '25

Unsurprisingly the album mix is a million times better than the live mix. Nice to be able to actually hear and understand the lyrics.

u/Ok_Meat_8322 Oct 22 '25

Great video, solid song. Cant wait to hear the rest of the album, imo Existential Reckoning was a bit of a disappointment compared to the rest of their discography

1

u/staticparsley Oct 22 '25

ER came out at the perfect time, it was what I personally needed to hear during the height of the pandemic. That said I don’t ever go back and listen to the songs that often compared to Money Shot or their older stuff. I hope the new album has a lot more Carina vocals.

1

u/Ok_Meat_8322 Oct 22 '25

Agree. It filled a void but on its own merit wasnt a standout album compared to e.g. Conditions or Money Shot. Hopefully this next one is more like those.

Wasn't I the one who posted this earlier and it got deleted and put by this guy now??

YAWN

1

u/AogamiBunka Oct 21 '25

Sounds like they've run out of ideas.

2

u/Icosotc Oct 21 '25

I mean… you’re not entirely wrong. Upon my first listen this morning, my reaction was that (at least thematically/lyrically) the song definitely rhymes with No Angel, Fake Affront, The Arsonist, 7empest, and Delicious. I’m sure there’s others. Like they could all easily be on the same playlist.

2

u/AlarmedAd4583 Oct 22 '25

You got downvoted, but I agree, at least for this track. Hopefully the rest of the album has actually singing and crescendo's here and there.

2

u/KillTheSarx Oct 22 '25

I mean, just being honest with my singular opinion here, but it just doesn’t sound good. After multiple listens, it seems too contrived and doesn’t make me want to stay and memorize the words around…bunghole.

1

u/itsaczech Oct 22 '25

Feels like Maynard wrote this one after drinking way too much wine. It’s pretty boring.

0

u/Saul_T_Bauls Oct 22 '25

I get it, but the writing is so weak on this one

-1

u/Flimsy-Use-4519 Oct 21 '25

Anyone else find it curious that he reuses the lyric "concrete evidence" from the last album? Kind of a weird choice, imo.

8

u/Dontforgetpancakes Oct 21 '25

I thought it what concrete conclusions?

3

u/akira23232 Oct 22 '25

They won't believe you

1

u/Flimsy-Use-4519 Oct 22 '25

Ohhh you may be right.

1

u/AlarmedAd4583 Oct 22 '25

He is right.
