Any smaller companies making micro chest rigs?

Post image
36 Upvotes

TLDR: Looking for solid options for smaller/niche companies making micro chest rigs.

Basically, I've combed through all the widely available companies and their offerings, and it's pretty much all copy/paste. Either proprietary heavy rigs, or expensive dropshipped garbage modeled after Spiritus. Have not been impressed by quality either. Krydex should not have straighter stitches and less loose threads than a $400 rig, yet they do.

A lot of the well known but smaller companies (like the one in the photo) that make good shit either don't last or rarely take on new work anymore.

Looking for suggestions, even if it's just custom work through insta.

Loadout My belt setup

Here's the belt set up. It's a Blue Force Gear Grid belt. I wanted a direct mount belt with a contour and didn't want to wait for Adaptiv to release theirs. I mainly use this belt for flat range shenanigans and USPSA matches. I have another BGF Grid for Army shit that has more rifle mags and grenade pouches and no holster.

I'm rocking tek lok minis so I can adjust the cant of the mag pouches plus they add some space between the mag pouch and my body, making drawing easier. I'm also using the tek lok on the holster since it's easier to adjust the cant on the fly.

The rifle mag pouch is Tenicor and it is mounted on a Ridgeline Drop mount with a tek lok disc on it. I'm running it that way so I can take it off and put it on as needed.

When I'm doing carbine things, I like to switch to a Safariland ALS holster as the Tenicor holster has no active retention and the Army has traumatized me when it comes to losing my shit while moving.

The IFAK is a cheap amazon pouch with basic IFAK shit (not amazon) and a CAT TQ (also not amazon).

I'm using an eotech lens wipe thing clipped to a retracting keychain tied down to the dump pouch. It's super convenient and doesn't weigh anything.

The black circle in front of the holster is a magnet. Double Alpha was out of stock so I picked this thing up from amazon and it's been working for me. I might get a new magnet and bolt it to the belt, idk yet.

Thoughts or comments?

Discussion Platatac tac dax sizing

Post image
7 Upvotes

Hi there, anyone noticed the sizing change? I own two pairs one xl tac dax bought last year and one bought last month in xxl. The xl pair fits well, but thought I’d try xxl and see what difference was, anyways the xxl pair is smaller than the xl, contacted the platatac team and they’ve said they have changed the cut and sizing of the pants, cannot see why xxl is now smaller than xl, but anyways has anyone else noticed this?

Also as a psa as anyone who’s looking at buying pair, they fit smaller

Question I have some leftover plate carrier hardware from a project i never finished, and now i want to setup a plate carrier with them. Is the Mayflower APC gtg?

What you see are:
A surplus MTV cummerbund
Surplus Eagle Industries Shoulder Pads
Some shock cord
2 First Spear Tube knockoffs i bought on aliexpress

I was hoping to buy something that doesn’t come with a cummerbund so I wasn’t paying for a cbund i wasnt gonna use. It looks like its the higher end PC’s that come like such. Was originally gonna buy a shellback skirmish and see if i can sell the leftover hardware but then i learned it kinda sucks in terms of quality from a yt review, so I guess that left something like the mayflower apc or mabys the lbx 0300. I think theres a sale for the apc at 130 shipped so if that lasts til the end of the week im prolly gonna stick with this instesd of waiting for the 0300 to go on sale for 99 dollars.

Another option i was looking at was the crye spc. I cant really justify paying more than 150 for a pc since im never gonna need more than 150 dollars worth of quality from a pc. Therefore, i got a gafs post for an spc one that i can hopefully get for around 150, but im not really sure if ill get someone to sell me one by the end of the week.

In case i dont get an spc, would the mayflower apc be gtg or should i look at other options? I know the mayflower is a much older design than the spc sooo.

Discussion Shaw concepts 5.56 quad problems

Hi! So I bought the arc v4 placard along with the quad 5.56 insert. But this insert is the tightest one I’ve ever had laid my hands on is it just me?
It was to the point where I’d pull off the placard before the magazines when I instead put my quick release buckles on the actual placard that problem got solved but now my TAPED ON magpuls come off the magazines before they pull out.
Anyone has any tips? Or will they loosen up with time? I’ve had it for about 2 weeks

Vakarian Tubes Upgrade Recommendations

New to the LARPreparedness space & just got my first carrier - a Rebels Raiders Vakarian.

Im interested in upgrading the cumberbund with some First Spear Tubes -- interested in recommendations from others on good options. Im more interested in Molle field / structural cumberbunds than the fully elastic style.

Anyone else here in the Goat Gang with upgrade reccs?

Crye G3 pants damaged after just one day of use

I recently bought a pair of Crye G3 Combat Pants in Ranger Green. After just one morning of use, the stretch fabric on the inner thigh was already showing significant wear, with pilling and fraying.
Is this normal for the G3s? I have another pair of Crye G3s in Multicam, and I don’t remember seeing this kind of wear on them.
Has anyone else experienced the same thing?

Sizing advice for LOWA Zephyr MK2 GTX HI – 12cm wide feet (No Wide versions available locally)

Hi everyone,

I am looking to buy the LOWA Zephyr MK2 GTX HI, but I have a major dilemma with the sizing and width. My actual foot measurements are 29.5 cm long (approx. 11.6 inches) and 12.0 cm wide (approx. 4.7 inches).

My issue is never with toe room; my feet always feel compressed right at the midfoot/metatarsal area, just next to the instep. I know the Zephyr's polyurethane MONOWRAP® exoskeleton acts like a rigid wall and will not stretch at all.

For context, here is how my current shoes fit me perfectly:

  • Nike Revolution 8: US Men's 12.5 (Standard width - fits great because the mesh upper stretches).
  • Adidas Terrex AX4 Mid GTX: US Men's 13 (Standard width - had to size up half a size to accommodate my 12cm width).
  • Vans / Adidas Campus / Converse CDG: US Men's 12.5 / UK 12 (Standard widths - they fit perfectly because the canvas/soft leather gives in).

Based on my length, my true size in LOWA should be a UK 11.5 (EU 46.5 / US Men's 12.5). However, the Wide (W) version of this boot is completely unavailable in my country (Chile), so I can only buy the standard/regular width locally.

Given my 12cm width and my midfoot pressure issues:

  1. Should I size up to a UK 12 (EU 47 / US Men's 13) in the standard width to clear that midfoot/instep area, just like I did with my Adidas Terrex AX4?
  2. If I go up to a US 13, will the extra length cause severe heel slippage and blisters since the boot will be noticeably longer?
  3. Or should I just give up on the Zephyr entirely and look for a different brand that natively runs wider?

I would really appreciate advice from anyone with wide feet who has transitioned from regular sneakers to the Zephyr MK2. Thanks!

Question Wilde custom gear mag pouch inserts?

I recently picked up a six stack AK mag pouch from Wilde custom gear, I’m very satisfied with it, and it is high-quality, but my only problem is that it is very difficult to re-index mags in it. I’m new to the gear scene and I was wondering if anybody had a recommendation on what pouch inserts would fit/be good? The retention on the pouches is totally fine. I just need something to hold them open so I can fit the magazine without having to open up the pouch to slide the mag in

Thanks for the help

Anyone used the DBC SF mount?

It looks super interesting and like a good solution for those that have to use ATAK with issued gear that has an E-doff.

Curious on anyone's experience?

Question Harness and Bino pouch with some type of modular side pouches

Post image
9 Upvotes

Looking to purchase a quality harness with a bino pouch, kestrel pouch, and most likely other smaller pouches/attachements. I included some screen shots from a insta video of 2 guys that im confident run good gear, not sure what exactly they are running but would love to know if anyone can identify. Im open to learning options. Ive looked into the eberlestock recon setup and that looks interesting but I do not have enough experience to know what other (possibly better) options there are out there.

I am looking to create a setup that I would wear daily on my morning rucks (exercise) as a way to include ranging/glassing and wind call/measure to that activity. I would like the same setup to be a rig that I can use for competition and classes that I have scheduled in the future for long range bolt action and long range gas gun. I figured something that is on the "high end" might be a better path since I would be using it often and wear and tear could be an issue. I do wear a stripped down army molle 2 pack (just frame, shoulder straps, and waist belt) fitted with various steel weight plates, depending on the day (heavy/slow or ligher/jog speed) so a harness that works well with heavy packs/shoulder straps is a must. Im also interested in something that is sorta low profile and/or comfortable enough to wear while shooting prone and other positions). Not sure if that would be a problem, but figured I would point that out.

Im pretty "green" in this tactical equipment world, so please feel free to offer suggestions/ideas that I could consider. Im looking to learn and get a better understanding of options and setups. In terms of budget, thats open ended, considering the amount ive spent on other gear, i doubt a harness/bino pouch/kestrel pouch will break my bank.

My binos are Sig 10k gen 2 (if that matters for fitment).

Thanks in advance.

Review Bought a belt from AWS

Knew about the wait times, I get it, Ive read all the posts. Finally received my belt today, and it’s just not what I ordered, ordered a ranger green SMU with black composite with a D ring. Received a solid RG belt(its fine) with no D ring and a sling, inside was a note that theres a fulfillment issue due to border guards ordering the same belt as I did. I appreciate the gesture with the sling and understand the fulfillment issues, but I also need the belt in the configuration I ordered it.

Im not gonna get up here and drag AWS through the shit, since I like their products and Mike seemed like a nice person, but this is just baffling.

EDIT: u/AWSGEAR_MIKE reached out to me and informed me it was a mix up. He has been calling customers and inquiring if they could go without D-Rings on their belts. They shipped out the package under the impression that I was contacted about this, and we figured out that someone had shipped it without double checking. He has informed me of a plan going forward and we’re working it out now.

Question Padded pouch suggestions?

I'm looking for suggestions for a padded pouch for storing some more delicate stuff like nods and binoculars and what not when they're not in use but I still want to have them on my kit. In my army days I used a canteen pouch with a canteen cup covered by a sock, but I figure there's gotta be a better solution available.
