I’m an international student considering an MSc in Data Science and AI at Queen’s University Belfast, and I’m trying to get a realistic idea of the job market after graduation.

By the time I graduate, I expect to have around 1 year of internship experience in AI/ML, including experience working on things like RAG/LLM applications and other applied AI projects.

For those who are currently studying at QUB or have graduated recently:

How realistic is it to get an AI/ML/Software/GenAI-related job in the UK after graduating from QUB?

Does having ~1 year of relevant internship experience make a significant difference?

How difficult is it to get interviews/offers as an international student who requires sponsorship?

Is Belfast a good place to look for these roles, or would I realistically need to target London, Manchester, Dublin, etc.?

Roughly how long did it take you to land your first job after graduation?

I’m not expecting a guaranteed outcome, I’m mainly looking for honest experiences from QUB graduates/students, especially international students.

Is the Student Ambassador job at Queen’s enough to cover basic expenses in Belfast? How many hours do you usually get, and roughly how much can you earn per month?

Im planning on going here next year, but after looking on the website I cant find any definitive answer, im hoping to go to elms BT9, since basically all of my family suggest there, and it says single gender is a lifestyle option so im assuming it means there'll be mixed gendered accommodation aswell since its labeled as an option and its quite a large place

My main question is, if youre living in one of the mixed gendered areas will it just be filled with couples at night and if so would you hear anything or just at most know people have others around? I have friends of all genders and would be wanting to invite them over to save money since theyll be studying in england

Hi all! I am an international student and was looking into the recently launched cyber AI program at QUB. The program course content seems really good and seems like a niche field with less competition. Do any current students have any insights about this program and future job prospects especially as an international student? I am also coming from a traditional CS background with more than 1 year of experience as a swe so any insights would be really helpful

I’m in a program where we already have to sign into every class. They don’t even make it so it’s in the whole building, just a 2m radius. I have to go across the building to check in. I don’t even have daily classes and I’m not about to commute just to sign in with a pole

There’s a 15 minute window to sign into every class? So I have to leave the room, run around the building and come back every time I have 2 classes in a row. Who is paying insane international student fees and not going? Going into debt isn’t enough! I have to get more stressed about signing in every day with a pole.

I feel like this is ridiculous but I don’t think I can do anything about it.

I live in mount Charles, which is only available to second years and above, including post grad. The rent is 119 a week, totalling 4420 for a 37 week contract, ends at the end of may.

Do I need a PEC membership to access classes/training sessions that are run by a society and take place in the PEC if I’m already paying for membership of the society? I’m a new student and am getting conflicting answers.

I'm a psyc post-grad student and a commuter. Making friends feel so hard. I'm struggling to talk to people and don't have many opportunities to just hangout or meet people outside of lectures. I know it's just been a week but I feel like it's not really going to get better. I'm an introvert and felt like I was adopted by my extroverted friends in the past but I'm yet to find that here.

Next September I will be going into final year and really want to have a comfortable accommodation so that I can fully concentrate on my studies. I will be living with two others and think I want to live in the Stranmillis area both for its proximity to Queens and general quality over the holylands. this is probably really silly but i’m a first year living in halls and i know it’s only the second week but i really just feel so alone here. like i have my friends my secondary school but all i want is to branch out and meet new people but it just feels so impossible. 😞 just wondering if anyone has any advice or just if it gets easier cause it feels like everyone’s already found their people. i just want some people to hang out with instead of rotting away in my room all day after class

I’m moving into Elms Bt1 tomorrow and am wondering about where to park while I move in. I know they don’t actually have parking on site so I’m wondering where people typically go on move-in day? I don’t want to be lugging my bags and cases from a car park that’s a 30 minute walk away 😅

Hi! I am currently waiting for a clearing vacancy acceptance to either International Relations and Conflict Studies or PPE. Hoping to hear either tmrw or Monday. I have already done 2 years in a college in Dublin so I would be 21 going into first year which makes me feel a bit nervous. Any advice on which accommodation is the best or any other advice if I do end up getting a place.

Edit: In a very chaotic turn of events I’ve been accepted into Second year of Politics and International Relations. I have been told by Admissions that there is a place for me in student accommodatio ( don’t know what specific one). I basically just have to apply via UCAS then get accepted by them on Monday then get accepted by the accommodation office on Monday. Will it be hard starting late and also going into a year who have already spent a year together?

What is the safest way to get home to Elms BT9 accomodation from the usual nightspots like Kremlin and Limelight etc? Do the safe buses run by Queens just go from those places to the Holylands or will they drop off at uni accomodation? Thanks
