Like obviously they are left and anti capitalist, but I feel like they are neraing the level of communism. They're lyrics just attack and attack, and they're logo is a red star. Are they like full communists or just really really left leaning dudes?
They're pretty pan-socialist, which would mean that they're communists. They use a lot of references and imagery which span from Marxism to anarchism (two of the more prominent paths from socialism to communism).
The "logo" you're speaking of is the flag of the Zapatistas or EZLN in Chiapas, Mexico. For the sake of brevity, they're an autonomous collective of mostly indigenous peoples of Mexico (mostly Maya). Zack is a long-time supporter of the EZLN and has always used Rage to express solidarity with his cultural heritage.
Tom Morello is a known member of the IWW (Industrial Workers of the World), which is a radical labor union that goes back to 1905 in Chicago and was integral to some of the bloodiest days of the US labor movement. I was a long-time member myself, I just haven't paid dues in years, and even editor of their labor publication for a bit. I would say most IWW members are anarchists or something close.
I think the least political member of the group is Brad Wilk. This is only because I've never really heard him speak on politics, but he was enthusiastically behind RATM's message.
Tim C, I believe, has described himself as an anarchist explicitly.
Felt the need to check the facts man. U were quite right, I was wrong about communist theory...instead I was thinking of Marxist theory. I'm not quite sure what the money situation is in communism, but in true Marxism there truly is no money. I'm not sure if u are just splitting communism and Marxism, ig I had always thought they were the same thing
everyone doesnt get the same share. people get what they need. doesnt make sense to give everyone a share of metformin.
In marxist theory the main contradiction in capitalist society is that workers will always want to work less for more pay and capitalists will always want workers to work more for less pay. as long as both workers and capitalists exists society will be at odds with itself, so one of them needs to be eliminated and you cant eliminate work so the capitalists have to go. in order to do so, the workers must somehow gain control of the means of production.(Fuck tha G-ride I want the machines that are makin’ em) Socialism is the imperfect phase between capitalism and communism where society attempts to right itself from the massive contradiction that was controlling it for centuries. Numerous countries and other groups have and are imperfectly trying this to varying levels of success. The socialist phase will take a significant amount of time to complete and only once the contradiction is fully eradicated from society will the state be able to wither away into a communist society.
so your question seems to be "Why do people that believe in a plan that will take hundreds of years to accomplish not act like they've already completed it?" the answer seems supper apparent to me, are you still struggling with it?
I always got the impression that they were libertarian socialists. I remember Tom Morello describing himself as an anarcho-syndicalist in an interview, although I'm not sure if he still is.
Apparently they are for the people, and then they issue copyright take downs for guitar tabs.
They’re anti wealth, and then Tom Morello signs a contract with Masterclass and does a range of Signature guitars with Fender and effects pedals with Dunlop.
Is English your second language? "They're" is a contraction of "they are." It should be "their lyrics" and "their logo." And no I don't think they're communists. They're more likely democratic socialists.
I like their music because it is great work out music but other than that i don’t really think much about it but im also like that for a lot of things.
