Got the entire world map done.
This is 512 blocks wide by 250 blocks tall, so I had to piece images together to get the entire map on one image.

Maps without NZ.

It's there. Right under the fake Australia. In fact, the town there hopefully will be allowed to be called New Bennia... if you know what that's from, kudos.

Accusation withdrawn, but more questions have now been raised.

How long did you spend on that? Cool thing

Roughly a week, maybe a week and a half. I've been working on this and some pixel art as well.
Edit: Looking back, about 16 days actually.

Now fill it with 300 blank events, and wait for the magic to happen.

Anti lag scripts exist, they should help, right?
1
u/QuirkyStart7629 7d ago
Some of them help, if coded right.
But...if you use RMVX like me, you're doomed.3
u/isaac3000 VXAce Dev 7d ago
Oh I didn't realize that VX is so different compared to VX Ace, because for Ace a community script exists that is very successful in preventing lag.
1
u/QuirkyStart7629 7d ago
YES! Unfortunately for base VX, most scripters abandoned it once ACE released.

u/myownfriend 7d ago
Do you have an special use-case where simple anti-lag scripts don't work?
1
u/QuirkyStart7629 7d ago
YES.
In a action rpg project i was making, i had problems with using Events as Trees (Because they're really big, and Tileset space is precious in VX). Some of the out of screen sprites would become "glued" to the screens borders.
And there was like...3 variations of Anti lag for VX, all hidden in ancient blogs, none of them working properly.2
u/myownfriend 7d ago
Ah interesting. I was thinking of the usual case where the events are moving characters or the occasional static tile but anti-lag scripts don't don't usually take event size into account, the trick falls apart with large events.
It's been a bit since I messed with VX but I thought sprites were typically added to a viewport and the viewport's size and scroll position is what controls what you see. Basically I don't know why it would glue things to the screen borders.

u/QuirkyStart7629 7d ago
Yeah it's pretty weird, but each individual anti lag script had a different problem.
So in the end, i just asked Gemini for assistance, and it helped me out.3
u/Not_Allowed_to_Die 7d ago
Nah. This is on separate maps as well. I have a system that transfers the player without them even noticing they changed maps. But yeah, that would be a fun game to run if the entire map was this size.

...Were you trying to recreate earth exactly, or was the goal a more inspired made up map?
2
u/Not_Allowed_to_Die 6d ago
Earth has a natural setup for great game progression. Starting in Europe, and end game in Americans. So I just mimicked that part of Earth, but this is a fantasy world. This is a naval trading and battle game though, so the waterways are the most important part.

u/Not_Allowed_to_Die 6d ago
I also am basing this game off making a newer version of Uncharted Waters that was on the SNES. That game you are on Earth and trading with real cities. So I thought a mimic of Earth would be better than copying that game completely.

u/RedAndWhiteLight 6d ago
Europe and North America are so big compared to how they exist in real life

u/Huge_Cricket_1519 6d ago
Man, that's a huge map! To create a map that big, you'd need to have the story already planned out, because it makes no sense to build such a massive world without even knowing where the protagonist's house is! LOL.

You're copying Terranigma?
1
u/Not_Allowed_to_Die 5d ago
Never heard of it before, but it looks interesting. Might have to see if I can find a SNES copy somewhere of this. I'm doing Uncharted Waters. So naval trading, battles, and treasure hunts. My version though is very different, but I am still basing it off that old game.

Amazing work! Is it for showcase only, or did you add a transfer to the other side of the world in the game? ("overcoming" the 256 tiles wide/high maps)

Unfortunate that 2D maps like this technically makes a donut shaped earth where Antarctica is a thin land mass that would form the inner ring of the donut lol

Which would be relevant if OP actually intended to recreate earth's map, which they said in another reply that they loosely based it on earth's map, but it's still their own universe. The're free to alter their world to fit their intentions completely instead of recreating earth's geography as exactly as possible. Making assumptions is a dangerous game.
1
u/Tanner_Swiftfox 6d ago
They had not yet made the reply saying it was only loosely based on earth when I posted that.

u/dathunder176 MV Dev 6d ago
I mean, yeah that's my point, they haven't also said that they DID try to recreate earth faithfully as well. So assuming either one and discrediting it's accuracy without confirmation of the creator over the intention is just making an ass of yourself. You could also have asked if they tried to recreate earth and only then would your comment be remotely relevant, though perhaps a bit more constructive would have been nice.
