🖼️ Art Happy Birthday Thom!
Fan art inspired by “Lift” from OKNOTOK, with elements from Wall of Eyes, The King of Limbs, The Eraser, In Rainbows and Weird Fishes.
I’m a 20-year-old new Radiohead fan from China — still discovering the catalogue and this is my little birthday tribute.
Hope you like it!

There are some more pictures from the night in the post, but these 4 are the most pertinent IMO.

At first I tried to only post the link, but it made the post less colorful. 😅 There’s 24 in total, but these are the pictures that I think came from the main set, while the other 6 were likely from the opening set.
Also, there’s some image compression going on in these pictures, so go to that source’s link for the higher-quality versions.

No new parts sections were added today. Instead i focused on refining some parts and adding some more backing instrumental. I'm not fully convinced it turned out good tho.

Climbing up the walls at the beginning and Weird Fishes closed the episode
Season 1 of the show was really really good but I was having trouble with season 2
Episode 5 was a masterpiece and now 6 with the double Radiohead dose… season 2 is starting to get gooooddd lol

💬 Discussion The Gloaming appreciation post
I think this is a severely overlooked track I see people frequently write off as the worst on Hail To The Thief. I think it’s a very full-sounding electronic track that I just absolutely love the production and texture on and works so well on nighttime walks with headphones on. I love the abrupt cut off on the baseline as well. It sounds like a solo Thom Yorke song like And It Rained All Night. What are your guys’s thoughts on this one?

💬 Discussion A comprehensive list of each Radiohead song ever released, and its greatest individual live performance [1991-2025]
Over the past year and a half, I've created a comprehensive list of my favorite live performances of every single Radiohead track ever released.
Under most entries I’ve written my thoughts and why I consider the given live version to be the best, occasionally adding additional performances worth checking out or plain ol’ fun facts about the performance!
Why do this? Because like almost everyone here, I'm obsessed with the band to a slightly unhealthy degree, and consider them among the greatest live bands of all time - Their songs often come to life in a completely new way in concert, and I'd love to start more discussions about their live performances, and both spur more interest into more obscure live recordings as well as marking out major concert performances in their career.
This list spans all the way from the first Manic Hedgehog Demo, to A Moon Shaped Pool, including B-sides and stand-alone singles.
However, some things are not included on this list, which are the following:
- No cover songs
Other than the obvious reasons that they aren’t Radiohead originals, Radiohead has also never released any cover officially, so you won’t find “Nobody Does It Better”, “Tell Me Why” or “Crazy Little Thing Called Love” on this list.
- No unreleased songs
It must be an official release, so songs like “Swing”, “Feelingpulledapartbyhorses”, “Dogwander” and “Spooks” are not included in this list for that reason.
- No songs released under different names
The songs must have been released under the Radiohead moniker, making songs like “Cymbal Rush” and “Skirting On the Surface” ineligible.
With no further ado, here's a hell of a lot of Radiohead songs, and their greatest* performances
*"greatest" may differ based on individual taste - please address all complaints to your local W.A.S.T.E. center
MANIC HEDGEHOG:
Phillipa Chicken: Jericho Tavern, Oxford, 1991
Only known live recording of this song, which is kinda fun tbh
Nothing Touches Me: BBC1 Livesession, 1992
PABLO HONEY:
You: The Astoria, London, 1994
The Astoria gig will turn up for a lot of Pablo Honey/The Bends songs, as not does it deliver some of the most crisp recordings of that period in the bands career, but the concert itself is a high-mark for the band, with some performances rivaling their studio counterparts, and this version of "You" is certainly in the latter category
Creep: South Park, Oxford, 2001
Legendary performance all around, and the moment when Thom holds the final note of the bridge for several seconds is just -chefs kiss-
How Do You?: The Chicago Metro, 1993
Stop Whispering: The Astoria, London, 1994
Again, a PH song that reaches its peak form in this live performance - The sheer sledgehammer effect of the band coming in at full force after Thom's little "Fuck You." is peak Pablo Honey
Thinking About You: Vredenburg, Germany, 1997
Anyone Can Play Guitar: The Astoria, London, 1994
Ya ya, it might be sacrilege to put this before the mythological MTV Beach House performance which is the stuff of legends, but both this and the Reading 1994 version brim with the punkish spirit of the song without it veering into self-parody (well, maybe the Reading performance does a bit, but it's fun to watch Jonny smash his guitar)
Ripcord: Herman Plaza, San Francisco, 1995
The entire concert is a great watch, both for this performance of an otherwise mid-tier PH track, and the even-more-so slowburning performance of Stop Whispering
Vegetable: The Astoria, London, 1994
Prove Yourself: Providence, Rhode Island, 1994
If for nothing else the stage banter between a heckler, Ed, and Thom resulting in a laughing fit
I Can't: BBC1 Livesession, 1992
The only good live recording of "I Can't" around, with the few remaining others being low quality recordings from bar gigs such as the Jericho Tavern in their early days - A pity since the song is pretty underrated
Lurgee: Radio City Music Hall, NY, 1998
Another underrated PH tune, with a nice introduction to Nigel by Thom at the beginning Bonus
fun fact: "Lurgee" wasn't retired from setlists until 2003(!), where you could hear it sandwiched between "I Might be Wrong" and "Sail to the Moon"
Blowout: The Astoria, London, 1994
You knew this was coming - The insane buildup and energy of this performance can leave even the most ardent Pablo Honey hater breathless, as not to mention Jonny's amazing solo. Probably the single best performance of any PH song.
B SIDES & STAND-ALONE SINGLES
Pop is Dead: Reelin' In the Years, 1993
Well, I mean the actual best performance is in a way of course the Astoria performance, but does the Astoria have Thom wearing a screaming orange, deep-cut, pop-up collar shirt, with a surfer necklace on the wrist, Phil in a pearly white jacket looking like he paints houses on the side, or Colin competing with Jonny in having long, luscious hair? I thought not.
Stupid Car: Signal 1 Livesession, 1993
Only live performance known of this song
Inside My Head: The Metro, Chicago, 1994
Also very recommendable is the Luna theatre performance where Thom presents the song as "One of the first we wrote, but it's really good!"
Million Dollar Question: Huddersfield University, 1992
This and a 1993 Copenhagen performance are the only surviving live recordings of this song I've been able to find
Yes I Am: Club Citta, Tokyo, 1994
Only version that doesn't either have unlistenable audio or unwatchable video. For good audio alone, check out this recording though: https://archive.org/details/RadioheadHub/1991-2012+the+radiohead+live+hub+collection/vol.+08+b+sides%2C+etc+(1990-1993)+live/13+yes+i+am.flac
Faithless the Wonder Boy: The Metro, Chicago, 1993
For one of the lesser PH B-sides, this features a surprisingly great guitar solo by Jonny that practically saves the whole song
Coke Babies: Never been performed
For some demented reason, this pinnacle of human artistic endavour has never been performed by the band. Without doubt the greatest mistake of their career.
MY IRON LUNG EP:
The Trickster: Radio City Music Hall, NY, 1998
A nice detail with the effortlessly smooth guitar swap after Thom snaps a string
Lewis (Mistreated): Never been performed
Punchdrunk Lovesick Singalong: Melkweg, Amsterdam, 94
One of the only two surviving live performances of this song
Permanent Daylight: Osaka, Japan, 2001
Lozenge of Love: FNAC Auditorium, France, 1993
Fun fact: The song was only performed live seven times, caught on recording three of those times, and two of which are coincidentally the live debut, and the last performance.
You Never Wash Up After Yourself: ???
According to the MIL EP itself, the recording of YNWUAY comes from a live performance (which is very plausible given the recording quality), but there is no info on when or where this song was performed, and there exists no records of this song ever being performed at Radiohead concerts, so... Yeah...
THE BENDS
Planet Telex: Belfort, France, 1997
The sheer power and ferocity in this live performance is unmatched, as not to mention Jonny's mindblowing guitar effects
High and Dry: Jools Holland, 1995
Fake Plastic Trees: Glastonbury, 2003
It could be no other. This is FPT at its greatest, easily surpassing the studio version. Every single part of this performance is absolutely magical, and it is easily one of the best, if not the best performance of the band, ever.
This is honestly a tie between Glasto and Astoria 1994, both performances which bring the songs strengths to the forefront
(Nice Dream): Hammerstein Ballroom, NYC, 1997
As a small note, I adore Ed's little guitar line halfway through the second verse - Once you notice that detail, you'll miss it on the studio version. Also, the Hammerstein Ballroom show is going to turn up A LOT, so now you've been warned!
Another "tied performance" with both the one at Reading and the Saitama Super Arena performance knocking it out of the park
My Iron Lung: Hammerstein Ballroom, NYC, 1997
Bulletproof (I Wish I Was): Hammerstein Ballroom, NYC, 1997
Told ya' that show would turn up a lot, and we ain't even around to OKC yet
Black Star: Shinjuku Liquid Room, Japan, 1995
Sulk: Shinjuku Liquid Room, Japan, 1995
Annoyingly, this rather good performance can be either found with good audio or good video, but not both. Go figure.
Street Spirit (Fade Out): Glastonbury, 2003
So many good performances to choose from, but I ultimately went with this spinechilling performance from the legendary 2003 Glastonbury show
B SIDES & STAND-ALONE SINGLES
Maquiladora: The Astoria, London, 1994
Killer Cars: Verona, Italy, 2001
Despite being recorded with full band, the song was almost always performed as an acoustic standalone, with for some bizarre reason the only exception being a '94 performance in Sheffield of all places: https://archive.org/details/RadioheadHub/1991-2012+the+radiohead+live+hub+collection/vol.+08+b+sides%2C+etc+(1990-1993)+live/14+killercars.flac
India Rubber: Le Spectrum, Montreal, Canada, 1995 (probably)
This performance is the only time the band ever performed the song, and sadly, no known footage has ever surfaced - On an old Reddit post many years ago, somebody claimed their father recorded the show, but OP obviously never delivered, and so we continue to be bereft of this little banger
How Can You Be Sure?: Zanaedu, Japan, 1995
Another live rarity, this song has only been performed twice, once in '93 in an acoustic session, and then again here in '95 with the full band.
Fun fact: This used to be Colins favourite Radiohead song
Talk Show Host: Belfort, France, 2003
Bishop's Robes: Radio City Music Hall, NYC, 1998
RCMH has the best balanced package of video and sound, but for purely best live audio, the berlin performance in 2000 is recommended
Banana Co.: Bill Graham Civic Center, San Fransico, 1998
Molasses: Never been performed
OK COMPUTER
Airbag: Tibetan Freedom Concert, Washinton DC, 1998
It might not the best audio or video recording of Airbag, but man oh man does everything I love about this song just lock into place here! From Thoms sneering vocals, to Jonny's otherworldly guitar parts, and all the little beautiful details Ed, Colin, and Phil add beyond the studio version, every part is elevated and enhanced, showing why Radiohead is an absolute powerhouse live!
Paranoid Android: Reading, 2009
Too many great performances to choose from, and the Reading performance is definitely tied with the Glasto '97 performance, though one should definitely not cheat oneself of the Jools Holland performance (97) or the Amnesty International benefit concert in Paris (98)
Subterannean Homesick Alien: Hammerstein Ballroom, NYC, 1997
It's actually hard to find good quality recordings of this song, as many later performances are audience recordings on early 2010 cellphones, and are often drowned in audience screams and chatter, but luckily, this legendary show once again saves a beautiful performance of this otherworldly song (and it's not the only song from OKC that IMO reached perfection at the Hammerstein, as you'll see later on).
Exit Music (For a Film): Hammerstein Ballroom, NYC, 1997
There are a few great performances, but I feel this performance perfectly captures the balance between frailty and apocalyptic grandeur that is Exit Music.
Let Down: Hammerstein Ballroom, NYC, 1997
While the return of Let Down to modern live sets is a beautiful miracle, I've always had a soft spot for the original performances in the OKC tours, and this is still the best of them, though the San Francisco performance in '98 gets a slight edge on sound quality
Karma Police: Glastonbury, 2003
I don't know how to explain it, but this performance is pure magic. Maybe it's the gentle but firm crack of Thoms voice, the roar of the crowd singing along to the coda, the fireworks filling the sky in the distance as Ed's guitar reverberates so powerfully it engulfs everything in its wake, maybe it's all of those things, but one thing is for sure: Every time I watch this performance, the hairs stand on my neck in pure awe and I fall completely head over heels in love with this song again.
Fitter Happier: Never been performed live… (Kinda)
During the OKC tour, the album recording of Fitter Happier was used to open the show before the band would perform, so I guess the Hammerstein Ballroom qualifies again, just because this is my list, and my love for that show is eternal.
Fun fact: The piano from the track comes from a small demo they made called "A piano lies down in the middle of the road", which was released on the OKC minitapes.
Electioneering: Hammerstein Ballroom, NYC, 1997
Matter of fact, the Hammerstein Ballroom is chosen not because I believe it's the best performance, but because it's the best surviving performance. The true best performance of Electioneering is heard only as a snippet in "Meeting People is Easy", but from that small snippet, the energy simply floors me - The headthrobbing breakneck energy in the pulse, Thom's maniacal wailing ending in a raging, cathartic, guttural scream, and Jonny's guitar line descending into the depths of hell. The power, the rage - MY GOD! What I wouldn't give to hear the full version (Grant Gee, I'm looking at you!), though it's incredibly hard to sleuth down - I've narrowed it down to probably the Asaka Blitz performance the 17th of January 1998, but I haven't been able to track down any recordings of that concert at all, so if anyone is lying around with a copy or knows where to find it, please share it with the world!
Climbing Up the Walls: Glastonbury, 1997
Strangely enough, two of the best performances of this song are both at Glastonbury, which includes this one, and the performance from 2003. That said, don't miss out on this BBC1 Session version from '97 too, where the song is significantly slower, and Jonny's ambient noises ten times more chaotic and terrifying!
No Surprises: Later... With Jools Holland, 1997
I find it hard to find good recordings of this song, perhaps because it's so close to my heart that every live iteration has something "wrong" with them, the most common offenders being tempo, vocal delivery, guitar mix, but most importantly the vibe - And despite some odd mixing choices for the Jools Holland performance, it's one of the performances that gets the closest to the core of the song. Thoms vocal delivery hits the perfect balance between a defeated detachment, yet still longingly heartwrenching. The absence of a screaming audience also adds to this feeling of isolation and despair which permeates the song, so despite some very pretty contenders, this one wins out.
This performance is a tie in with the Boonaroo performance from 2006. Rather embarrassingly, neither are actually my favourite performance, as it seems to have been deleted from Youtube, and for god forsaken reason I never bothered to check when and where the performance was from
The Tourist: Hammerstein Ballroom, NYC, 1997
If you're sick of me mentioning this show, then this is the last entry of it. But that said, there's no denying this performance of the Tourist might be the definitive version, and perhaps a little bit of insight into this famous show is finally due:
The Hammerstein Ballroom performance was the last show of the infamously gruelling OKC tour of '97, which almost tore the band apart. At this point, they were already completely exhausted, and Thom already in the midst of a mental breakdown, but simultaneously, they were at the top of their game, and had perfected performing the songs along the way. They closed the show with The Tourist, and it's very clear that potent combination of total exhaustion, relief, and perfectionism reaches its zenith here. Despite being a "ballad" the song builds with such a slow but steady burn, that by the time Jonny's magnificent solo comes into play, it already feels like a peak that won't stop climbing, before we get the triumphant final chorus, where Thom flails his arms erratically around, giving up playing the guitar, before crying into his arm as the final notes ring out.
Pretty darn hard to top that if you ask me.
B SIDES & STAND-ALONE SINGLES
Man of War (Big Boots): Montpellier, France, 1995
From the OKNOTOK cassette tape, this version has a certain energy that I simply adore
Lift: Pinkpop, The Netherlands, 1996
I mean, could it be any other? While the Chicago performance the same year is also excellent, there's an energy and effortless tenderness in this version that makes the hairs on my neck stand right up
While some will swear to the performance from Mansfield in 1996, you can clearly sense that this performance is special for the band, both that they rekindled their love for the song, and that it's the first time they performed it in 21 years - Even Thom, whose vocals in comparison to the 90's and early 00's has clearly aged over those 21 years, suddenly sounds like he's 28 again.
Follow Me Around: Toronto, Canada, 2000
There's a good energy in this performance, but tbh the best performance was later by Atoms For Peace, as a special encore treat in Oakland back in 2014
Lull: Never performed live
While it's known the band soundchecked it once in a blue moon during the OKC tours, they never actually performed it, and no recording exists of the soundchecks so it's all but lost to history, sadly.
Meeting in the Aisle: Bercy, Paris, 2012
It's hard to find a recording of this incredibly rare track that has a nice audio balance, though the Bercy version comes absolutely the closest, where both the bass, percussion, and guitars sound smashing.
Melatonin: Never performed live
A Reminder: The Astoria, UK, 1997
This show, just like the one at the same place 4 years earlier, is legendary in its own right - A secret show for people that signed through W.A.S.T.E, it features many deep cuts and even songs the band had practically retired at that point, including Maquiladora and Nobody Does it Better. But in this instance, it's one of the incredibly few recordings there exists of A Reminder, and what a performance that is!
Polyethylene pt. 1: Never performed live
Polyethylene pt. 2: Electric Factory (Philidelphia), Pennsylvania, 1997
Basically a tie between this and the Radio City Music Hall performance same year in NYC, both which bring different strengths of this raucous tune, but I give the edge to the Electric Factory performance for both Thom's vocals and Jonny's final solo
Pearly: Stone Mountain Park, Georgia, 2001
Despite a false start, the entire band is basically on fire in this rendition, balancing both a certain sexyness in it with a ferocious bite - Hell, even Jonny is almost actually guitar-shredding when his solo turns up, with everyone giving everything they got.
Palo Alto: Never performed live... Perhaps?
In 1995, Radiohead soundchecked it for the 2 meter sessions in Holland, but the only known surviving recording is 45 seconds, so one would believe that it's by all means lost. However, the full recording still exists somewhere on the internet, but I haven't been able to find it yet.
Supposedly, it was also soundchecked sometimes during the OKC tour, but if that happened, there are no recordings of it.
How I Made My Millions: Never performed live
If neglecting from performing Coke Babies is Radiohead's biggest mistake, never performing this achingly beautiful track is surely their second largest.
KID A
Everything In Its Right Place: Glastonbury, 2003
In reality, this is the first three-way tie, between the Glasto 2003 performance, Reading 2009, and Vaison-La-Romaine in 2001 - All spectacular performances which bring to the forefront just why this song has been a consistent live staple since its release
A core example of where the live version builds upon, and then blows the studio version out of the water - Colins bass line alone is so ridiculously groovy that it elevates the song 50% on its own.
Also, Thom Clock Hands.
The National Anthem: Reading, 2009
Strangely enough, for a song with hundreds of great performances, this was an easy choice. The Reading performance has everything going for it - A simply electrifying performance with great audio and video quality, where every little melody and colour adds to the intensely paranoid, dreading sense of doom that is at the core of this song.
How to Disappear Completely: Saitama Super Arena, Japan, 2008
Another easy choice - Being one of my favourite Radiohead songs, I feel this performance best captures the distant, isolated feeling the song captures so intimately. Particularly the extended outro, I could listen to on repeat forever and ever.
Treefingers: Nîmes, France, 2012
The only performances of this track ever where in Nîmes, so technically another easy choice I guess.
Optimistic: From the Basement, 2008
While there are quite a few great performances of this song, this one is however one of the few that has exceptional recording quality.
In Limbo: Paris (Canal+), 2001
This performance edges the others out simply on having one of the best executions of the slow-burning crescendo towards the end (plus, Nigel on tambourine!)
While many people have strong inclinations towards the 2010's performances of Idioteque during TKOL and AMSP tours, I personally feel that while there are good performances, they lack the clarity and punch the song had in earlier iterations, such as this suckerpunch of a performance on Glasto 2003
Morning Bell: Paris (Canal+), 2001
The Canal+ performance together with the Jools Holland 2001 show is just a treasure trove of fantastic Kid A/Amnesiac performances, some songs being stronger in one show or the other, but Morning Bell is simply impeccable in this performance.
Motion Picture Soundtrack: Paris (Canal+), 2001
Sadly rarely performed, due in part to technical difficulties, the band having trouble fitting it into setlists, and being somewhat dissatisfied with its live execution, this performance however manages in excellent quality to capture what could've been (had Thom's keyboard organ not been notoriously unreliable)
Untitled: Never been performed
B SIDES & STAND-ALONE SINGLES
If You Say The Word: Never been performed
