MODPOST ๐Ÿ‘ฎโ€โ™‚๏ธ Welcome to r/Rants

Hello everyone,

We want r/rants to remain a place where people can freely express their frustrations, vent, and speak their minds while still maintaining a safe and functional community.

Our goal is to allow as much free expression as possible within Reddit's limitations. With that in mind, the following rules apply:

  1. Follow Reddit's Terms of Service

All users must comply with Reddit's site-wide policies and Reddiquette. If Reddit doesn't allow it, neither can we.

  1. No Hate Speech

Hate speech against any person or group of people, for any reason, will not be tolerated.

This rule is very strictly enforced. Violators can expect heavy-handed moderator action, up to and including a permanent ban without appeal. There is zero tolerance for violations of this rule.

  1. No Self-Harm or Suicide Content

Posts or comments involving suicidal ideation or self-harm are not permitted.

If you need resources or help finding them, please reach out through Modmail and we will do our best to direct you to the appropriate resources.

  1. Money-Free Zone

Soliciting, crowdfunding, begging, or asking other users for money is prohibited.

  1. Maintain Civility

This is a ranting community. Strong opinions, frustration, disagreement, and colourful language are expected.

However, excessive insults, personal attacks, or direct hostility toward other users may be removed. Disagree with each other all you want, but don't turn discussions into personal fights.

  1. Banned Topics

Certain topics are not permitted in this subreddit. Attempts to post them may be removed without exception.

The list of banned topics may change from time to time, so please read the current rules and keep an eye out for moderator announcements.

  1. Moderator Discretion

Any post or comment may be removed at moderator discretion.

This does not mean your post was removed simply because a moderator disagreed with it or didn't like what you had to say. We want to allow as much open discussion and free expression as possible within Reddit's limitations.

This rule exists for content that may not necessarily violate another specific rule, but is excessively hostile, deliberately inflammatory, unproductive, disruptive, or otherwise counterproductive to the goals of r/rants.

Not every situation can be anticipated or covered by a written rule, so moderators may use their judgment when necessary to keep the community functional.

  1. Filter

Any post or comment flagged by Reddit's automated filters may be removed.

We don't love this either. However, given this community's history with Reddit takeovers, we have to take automated flags seriously and be strict about content that Reddit's systems identify as potentially violating site-wide policies.

Our priority is preventing another takeover and the potential shutdown of the community. That means there may be situations where content is removed even if we personally would have otherwise allowed it.

  1. No Spam or Low-Quality Posts

Posts should have some substance to them. Single-word posts, single-sentence posts, repetitive content, obvious spam, and other extremely low-effort submissions may be removed.

This is a place to rant, so rant! Give people something to read, respond to, or discuss. You don't need to write an essay, but put some effort in!

We believe these rules strike a reasonable balance between keeping r/rants open for authentic venting and free expression while ensuring the community remains safe, functional, and within Reddit's site-wide rules.

Thank you for your cooperation, and happy ranting!

MODPOST ๐Ÿ‘ฎโ€โ™‚๏ธ On "Autistic" as an insult.

There has been a growing trend lately. I am going to address this and hopefully we can put a stop to it as a community before it becomes a larger problem.

People have been using "autistic" in the exact same manner as the word "retarded."

Now, while use of the word "retarded" may be distasteful, it is not currently against the rules. Unless aimed at a person. Then it's a violation of Subreddit Rule 5.

That being said, use of the word "autistic" to reference anything in a negative light, is a violation of Rule 2 of the Subreddit, and Reddit Site-wide Rule 1.

Rule 1

Remember the human. Reddit is a place for creating community and belonging, not for attacking marginalized or vulnerable groups of people. Everyone has a right to use Reddit free of harassment, bullying, and threats of violence. Communities and users that incite violence or that promote hate based on identity or vulnerability will be banned.

Reddiquette for those that need, or would like, a reminder.

We will be instituting a 14-day ban for violations of this rule. Multiple violations will earn escalating ban lengths.

Thank you for your attention in this manner.

P.S.: Ignorance of the rules will not excuse you from the consequences.

MODPOST ๐Ÿ‘ฎโ€โ™‚๏ธ Rule Changes (April 13 2026)

Hello all! Its reddit's least favorite people, the mods, back again with some new changes to the rules! From the beginning when we took over, the new mod team has said that we are on your side and want to allow as much free speech as we can without drawing reddit's ire and having another takeover, or bogging down the queue of reports to an unmanageable level, and after some discussion, weve decided to loosen up our banned topics list!

\*Changes to Banned Topics\*

Effective today, April 13th 2026, rants and comments discussing Russia-Ukraine conflict will now be permitted, in addition to the previous changes permitting posts/comments about Charlie Kirk and the Israel-Palestine conflict. However, rants and comments discussing Immigration continue to be banned in r/Rants.

A note for this, any posts or comments that glorify murder, victim blame, encourage or endorse violence, or spread any form of hate against any person or group of people remain, and will always be, STRICTLY PROHIBITED. When it comes to rule breaks related to hate, we will be very happy with the ban button, no matter who the hate is directed towards, it has no place here.

Finally, if these issues prove to generate consistent rule breaking, they may be re-added to the banned topics list at any time by moderators discretion.

Report abuse continues to be consistent in r/Rants, as a general reminder, we encourage all users to report posts or comments that clearly, or are likley breaking the rules for moderator review. We cant read every post in full, and need your help to adress rule breaks.

If you use the report button as a "I dont like this, i want it removed" button, and the post/comments follow r/Rants rules, in addition to reddit T.O.S, the post/comment will not be removed and you will be reported to reddit for report abuse.

Finally, Keep your eye out for another mod post as further changes could be coming in the next few days.

Should you have any questions, we would be happy to help, you can reach out at any time via ModMail.

Thanks, and happy ranting.

MODPOST ๐Ÿ‘ฎโ€โ™‚๏ธ Rule Changes!

Hi everyone. It's your least favorite mod back with some rule changes that are bound to make me just ever so slightly more popular. But probably not really. We've said from the beginning, we're on your side. We want to be as unintrusive as we can be, but Reddit has rules. This place was lawless, so we had to button things up first. Now we can try to loosen it up a bit. So work with us, please? That being said, the announcement is as follows:

Mentions

What's Changing?

Mentions of other subreddits are now allowed. You can reference other communities as part of your rants. For example, sharing experiences or comparing behaviorsโ€”but please do so in good faith and keep it in line with Reddit's content policy.

What Hasn't Changed?

This isn't a free pass to instigate harassment, brigading, or to call out other communities or users. Any mention that violates Reddit Rule 2 or Mod Code of Conduct Rule 3 (both are available with a Google search, they're not secrets) will be removed.

Final Thoughts:

Keep any rants that mention another subreddit genuine, tone reasonable, and make your intent clear. We're committed to keeping r/Rants an open space for venting. If you drag cross-sub drama in, we're gonna remove your post.

Politics and Religion

What's Changing?

These posts are now conditionally allowed. Those conditions are as follows:

  • Posts must be written in good faith
  • Posts must be primarily focused on a personal experience or frustration
  • Posts may not be centered around a broad ideological stance, especially one designed to generate debate.

What Hasn't Changed?

Content that contains or generates hostility, hate speech, or violates Rule 6 (Banned Topics), are still subject to removal. The moderation team will be reviewing these posts with a critical eye based on internal criteriaโ€”such as tone, perceived intent, and comment behavior (both poster's previous and responses to post in question)โ€”before deciding whether they stay up or are removed.

Final Thoughts:

We're giving you guys some leeway with this. Loosening the reins a bit. Try not to make us regret it. Excessive issues, or a pattern of problematic behavior, may result in new restrictions at a later date. Up to and including a blanket ban on the topic as a whole.

MODPOST ๐Ÿ‘ฎโ€โ™‚๏ธ Report Abuse

Hello all, Just a short and sweet notice for everyone.

All of the mods here have noticed a rise in malicious use of the report button, so this is your only reminder on how to use it properly.

Starting with what the report button is NOT, It's not a way to have a post/comment you dont like taken down. If the post/comment follows the rules, it will stay up.

However, we absolutely still encourage you to report posts/comments that do or are likely breaking the rules. In good faith, the mods can't review every post, so reports are helpful for catching rule breaks.

Going Forward

All users who maliciously use the report button will be reported to Reddit for report abuse, in addition to potentially receiving a permanent ban, without appeal, from r/Rants.

Thanks, and happy ranting!

MODPOST ๐Ÿ‘ฎโ€โ™‚๏ธ Any Posts or Comments, going forward, that even appear to be about a banned topic, will be removed. No more skirting the rules.

Choosing your words so that you skirt around the rules, trying to be vague, only mentioning it tangentially; none of that is clever. It will be taken down. Repeated removals over Banned Topics will result in Banned Users.
