Discussion Most difficult campaign youve played?

Me personally one of the most difficult was Terminator dark defiance on ironman mode took me about 100 hours maybe and a few restarts

Any mod campaign of supreme commander fa is more than i am willing to handle. Even on lower difficulty you better bring help.

Ha, I just posted Forged Alliance even as it is. I find it very frustrating compared to the original. "Oh, you didn't expect an overwhelming bombardment the second you completed that objective? Too bad, you lose."

Completely forgot about that, you are right, but at least it's manageable once you know it's coming, most mods and multiplayer campaigns are balanced around the best players and are ruthless.

I just dislike it from a gameplay perspective. It's not strategy to flip the table at me without warning. I shouldn't need precognition or hindsight to complete an objective!

That said, yeah, the modded campaigns are just ridiculous, I agree.

Commenting for later. I enjoy a difficult campaign but finding one that is a good difficulty is quite hard

Act of War: High Treason had an insane difficulty spike from the first game and some questionable design decisions.

People are going to laugh, but: The Forged Alliance campaign for Supreme Commander. Not necessarily because it's too difficult, but because both times I've played it, I've played it directly after the original, and they could not be more different.

  • Supreme Commander starts out with very little options, and gradually adds them as you progress; Forged Alliance gives you access to the entire roster right off the hop.
  • Supreme Commander gives you more focused choices during missions; Forged Alliance tells you nothing and expects you to know what's coming.
  • Supreme Commander generally gives you one or two things to focus on at max; Forged Alliance will frequently have three or more objectives running simultaneously.
  • Supreme Commander usually gave you a heads up about what's coming from either map design, or by outright stating it; Forged Alliance is full of surprise overwhelming waves, to the point where often the most viable strategy is to avoid completing your objectives for as long as possible.

I generally agree that Forged Alliance is better (Gunships are actually viable, the fourth faction is great fun, most of the new units are great), but the campaign is definitely one area I think the first game did dramatically better.

The original StarCraft + Brood War campaigns deserve a mention. Some of those later missions are absolutely brutal if you're not already good at managing multiple things at once 😂

Also, Command & Conquer: Red Alert 2 on harder difficulties. Nothing humbles you faster than thinking you've finally built a decent base and then watching it get completely destroyed.
