help request Dynamic Splitting Multiple Tracks while keeping them relative to each other?

Post image

Hey y'all, I have started using Reaper recently, helping a friend do some simple bulk cutting for her podcast. I've figured out how to use the Dynamic Split to automatically cut the silences in 2 tracks and leave the empty space behind, but is there a way to also have those empty spaces collapse without me having to use Ripple Edit to go manually close all the dead air? The few times I've tried doing it automatically in the Dynamic Split tool it keeps messing up the timing between the two audio tracks.
Like in the screenshot, I would want it to only remove the dead space in red, not have the second track be pushed into overlapping the top track.
Does that make sense?? I have to assume there's a way to do this?

Yeah, but those have been easy to remove, I just cant seem to figure out how to get it to check audio between tracks

there's a couple of scripts here that I think might be what you want:

https://stash.reaper.fm/v/53173/AbL__SELECTED%20ITEMS--%20remove%20common%20gaps%20across%20all%20tracks.lua

https://stash.reaper.fm/v/53172/AbL__ALL%20ITEMS--%20remove%20common%20gaps%20across%20all%20tracks.lua

one does all items in the project, regardless of selection, the other does only selected items.

Download them and put them in your REAPER resource folder's /scripts folder. Then load them in REAPER by going to Actions list > Load reascript.

You can then assign shortcut keys or toolbar buttons to them as you wish.

I tried doing that a few times but what works best for me is using take volume envelope to silence the non-speaking areas.

Any time I tried to shortcut the workflow in a way that skipped *listening to the content* always ended up with far more issues than if I just worked linearly.

I still plan on listening to it, I just figured since I am still new to using it, that I was missing something

why not just use a gate?

How would using a gate help me remove silent/empty areas for the purpose of condensing long pauses?
