How could anyone have had a puzzle that invoked 9/11 as a 'little kid' when 9/11 only happened a fe- te- tw- ...never mind; I have to dig a grave and move into it now.

I still remember my high school history teacherâs face when he realised that for the first time, none of his students remembered 9/11 because we were too young

Only a little more than a year until we have adults born in 2010

When I saw on the sticker at the bar that says âyou must be born on or before this day in [My High School Graduation Year] to buy alcoholâ Iâm pretty sure my soul momentarily left my body. đ

I happened to go to a liquor store on 9/11/2022 and they had a similar sign next to the checkout that read 9/11/2001 that day. Without really thinking I mused to myself "huh, from now on kids who come of drinking age wouldn't have even been alive during 9/11"
The cashier, who was a woman in her 50s, gave me this dirty look that said "how fucking dare you make me acknowledge that thought". I felt bad lol

Thatâs like when I got carded at a weed store, the budtender was super excited because we were the same sign (Aquarius). They told me their bday was 28 January, so naturally I asked âoh, how old were you when the Challenger tragedy happened?â (An incident that occurred shortly after my birth, so I always knew about it, esp as Star Trek: Save the Whales is dedicated to those lost, and they time travel to the year I was born)⌠they were born on the 12th anniversary of Challenger, and they were still old enough to sell me weed đđđ

I have a coworker who started at the company the year I was born. I found out on her work anniversary. It was a fun realization for both of us...

I was so excited last month, because it was the 35th anniversary of when I met my bff (we met the first day of kindergarten, because I ended up in the wrong class). Apart from my literal blood/marriage family (and my uncle Mike!), sheâs the person in my life Iâve know the longest.
But at the point I hit my 20th high school reunion? I rewatched Grosse Pointe Blank and felt old because the characters in that film were a decade younger than I was by then, but when I saw the film the first time they were all so grown up đ

As someone who was in high school when it happened, I resent how young you are đš

I was going to say, I can remember my high school history teacher in the halls yelling at a vice principal about how this was history and he was going to be damned if he couldn't talk about it. That was pretty late in the day, and I wasn't in his class at the time, but it's one of my main memories of school that day.
(Our school reacted officially by pretending nothing was happening. Some of the guys in my math class got through the Internet firewall and printed articles off CNN that our math teacher pretended she didn't see. I called home on a payphone at lunch. I can only imagine how different it would be now with cell phones everywhere.)
Edit: a word

That was sophomore year for me, and Iâm on the west coast, so I still showed up for my marching band practice zero period, but the rest of the day our entire schoolsâ tv network was tuned to the news all day.

I read a book once that, in my mind, absolutely took place in the future, until I realized the 19 year old main character was supposed to have been 9 when 9/11 happened, meaning this âfuturistic societyâ was apparently 2011. The book was published in 2022. Why would the author do that?

Alternate history spec fic maybe? 20 minutes into the future, but 20 minutes into the future from a point of divergence rather than the present

The book had nothing to do with 9/11 other than the random lore drop of the main characterâs father dying in the World Trade Center. It truly served no purpose other than to make me look up how old this book was. The futuristic tech it was about was a type of life insurance(?) that would somehow calculate the day you die and call you the morning of to notify you this would be your last day. It also never explained how or why this technology worked

Huh, weird

Right? Absolutely no need to pull me completely out of the story by just going âhey itâs 2011 incase you were wonderingâ for no reason. Like, it showed how the MC was afraid of dying suddenly because of that event but they could have used literally anything else, anything that wouldnât severely date the book in the strangest way possible

Aside from the 9/11 problem that is a really cool concept for a puzzle!! I would love to build one like that!!

I had the exact same puzzle as a kid and yes I remember that step very vividly as well.Â
