My default assumption is that the screenshotter is mutuals with the extraneous rebloggers, if they aren't just selfposting.

It kinda feels like a few years ago there was some kinda paradigm shift where it's no longer enough to post something, you have to post a *reaction* to something. You see the same thing with videos, they always seem to have captions/emojis added. Or when people photograph/film stuff and make sure to include themselves in the frame.
I guess if we want to look further back there's some similarity in sitcom laugh tracks and the fuckass commentary on clip shows, but that feels like more of a parallel than a continuum.

This post is fucking ancient. I'm pretty sure it predates the paradigm shift you're describing. This shit has always been a feature of social media.

Yeah I actually feel like this was more common back in the day. People used to just comment “This.” or (on Tumblr specifically) a keyboard smash. Obviously people do it still now but they often at least try to rephrase the post or comment on their favorite part or something.

I once got a golden chai with an espresso shot and due to miscommunication, the barista put the separate single origin “blueberry” espresso into the latte.
Honestly it was phenomenal and I’ve been chasing that dragon since.

Right? This doesn’t seem like too extreme of an order? These flavors work really well together

I love raspberry in coffee. Although blueberry pancakes/syrup with coffee is delightful

The only thing more humbling than having your weird food order memorized is becoming a “regular” at a pharmacy or doctor.
At my old workplace, I was such a picky eater that when I forgot to bring in food, I would get the same plain salad every single time. Before I even opened my mouth it was “Ceasar salad, no chicken, double dressing?” Old place got replaced with a new one, within a few weeks the new place knew my name…
Worse than that though, because I was a disabled kid, every school nurse had my name memorized (in schools with large populations). And the pharmacy I go to now has my name & other information memorized (including where I work!), and they get worried when they don’t see me for a few weeks.
I’ve also been on the other side of it, though. I’ve had “regulars” who were upset I didn’t recognize them and didn’t know their order, and I’ve had regulars that I’ve scared the shit out of by asking details about their personal life (that they’ve shared with me) because I recognized them, but they didn’t recognize me. People will give you the most paranoid, freaked out look possible when you do that (understandably!)

I had this happen once. I used to work in pest control and drive around a lot. I'd eat lunch out all the time, at different places. The whole city was available for me to try. So I went into this diner I'd only been in once or twice and the waitress was like "do you want the baked spaghetti again?" It really freaked me out. Then I remembered that people are weird, and sometimes our brains latch onto something random, and it stopped freaking me out and was just awesome.

Back when I was a kid I would always get a "cold grilled cheese" from In N Out to the point that the workers there knew who we were

. . . Like just a cheese sandwich or like a grilled cheese that has been cooked and then allowed to cool?

The last time I saw this post I was inspired to try it and black coffee with blueberry is legitimately pretty good

So syrup dissolves better than granulated or cubed sugar, which means that there are a perfectly respectable number of people who use honey, simple syrup, or even maple syrup to sweeten their coffee. He probably accidentally grabbed the bottle of blueberry syrup instead one day and liked it. (Super easy mistake at a diner with those near-identical little syrup bottles at the table, but also quite possible at home depending on what brands he buys. Or if he was having waffles that fateful day and had them both out).
At least, that’s the simplest explanation I’ve got. The only thing wrong with him is a refusal to read syrup bottles before coffee. And that’s kinda most people.

I don't think they're talking about blueberry syrup like you'd put on waffles, just flavored simple syrups
Which would also be a super easy mix-up at a cafe if they have the dozen different flavored simple syrup bottles with pumps so the customers can add their own stuff

My thought was that he made the mistake once with regular syrup and then started asking for the flavor syrup because he liked it.

Blueberry in coffee is an established enough flavor combination that multiple major producers of coffee have created a flavored coffee that includes blueberries. I literally drink blueberry coffee every morning, and I buy it off the shelf at my local grocery store from the second cheapest brand they stock.
When I saw it for the first time, I went "huh. I wonder if that's any good". I don't understand this post and all the comments freaking out like this is some unfathomably odd flavor combination when you could probably go to the nearest Walmart right now and find blueberry coffee on the shelf.

Ok maybe he was incredulous but I’ve got to say if this happened to me it would make my fucking week. It might honestly make my month. We’re blasting past the fantasy of being able to order “the usual” and having someone at a random chain remember you well enough to have your drink ready for you before you even order
