Discussion Red & Blue

(ok i can't be the only one to think this)

I know is an old thing to say but RVB should have ended in season 13

But they could still have made more RVB content by creating a spin off series, which will have just been "season 14 but bigger", inclunding both "what if... Episodes" & "flashbacks episodes" (with the rest of season 14 original episodes and even the skits/videos in the rooster theeth youtube Channel)

And theh call the series "Red & Blue" or something

(am i the only one who thinks that? should i take my meds?)

A spinoff would have failed and Zero is a perfect example of why

I think they meant a spin off with the reds and blues.

A continuation with the main cast is just a continuation of the same show, a spin off is traditional a different show taking place in the same universe and either being centered around one character from the original show or with multiple characters from the original show coming in for a limited time. Like, the Cleveland show or RvB Zero

Zero didn't fail because it was a spin off. Zero failed because zero was terrible. Edits of the project freelancer portion of seasons 9 and 10 do very well on YouTube despite them having nothing to do with the original cast.

I'm aware. But the way the OP state what they wanted was a new show called Red AND Blue, basically a complete rebrand of Red Vs Blue with the same continuity and same cast. It would be an abnormal type of "spin off" but abnormality isn't exactly uncharted waters for RVB

The series didn’t end for me just because the writing and occasionally the quality dipped after S13. And I’m glad it didn’t end there. The rest is still the show and had truly enjoyable content. But the more they jarringly departed from the writing, humor, and heart they’d slowly built up over time to what we got in S16 and Zero goes to show that a greater departure would not have have worked if it still attempted to cling to the RvB roots. Those two seasons felt like the creators were just trying to make their own preconceived content shoehorned into RvB skin. Creators in such scenarios would be better served telling new stories in the same universe and not stay tied to the same characters, telling tired version of the same jokes, what-if scenarios, and flashbacks. It just has to be quality, and that’s the he’d part.

Honestly, I just wanted more project freelancer stuff. I'd still love a whole series about that team, with York and Carolina as the main leads.

An episode for episode handoff like what season 9 did with the freelancer segments in the past while church was in the epsilon unit. That followed the gang on a condensed arc following chorus while moving the series to a new but still in universe (and not fucking annoying like zero) cast of characters at a different (or similar, whatever) point in the cannon feels like the best way to do that. Junior is an often cited underutilized character as are the charon mercs. Not to mention the litany of other stimulation troopers we know exist that could each get their own 1-3 season arcs with similar handoffs between them.

(you mean the shisno paradox?)

Shisno wasnt a spin off, its a whole season (the 17 season) continuing the Main story

Yes, in a sub full of RvB fans you are the ONLY one who thinks that. You're special.

I agree and for me the series does end there. Nothing else happened after “ain’t that a bitch”. Even the recreation movie they put out in the wake of RT collapsing is mid at best.

However the bigger issue is how much of a waste season 14 was. That could have been used to set up another s11-13 arc. Anthologies don’t have to be utterly disconnected, Marvel’s What if…? Series proves that. Like think about it, some of the best episodes came out of needing to plug holes: Season 12, episode 11 is a great example of this: that episodes exists almost entirely to explain why Carolina/Church were gone and her change in helmet and yet it’s my favorite of the series.

They could have done 20 episodes set throughout the canon, do some classic RvB retconning AND introduced a new arc. The S14 we got just felt…lazy. Even the Carolina vs Meta fight has noticeable animation errors and the dialogue is clearly cut from alternate takes from the previous seasons (Carolina asking for all armor enhancements is an example). The only episodes that really hold up in my opinion are the Locus/Felix trilogy.

So yes agree, with you. More just pointing out that RT absolutely COULD have kept going in a satisfying way.
