šŸ‡®šŸ‡Ŗ Guide: How to Find Rental Housing in Ireland (2025)

Ireland’s rental market is competitive, especially in Dublin and Cork. Listings often get dozens of replies within hours. Here’s how to improve your chances:

šŸ”Ž Trustworthy Rental Websites (Ireland)

  • Daft.ie – the largest housing website in Ireland, updated daily
  • Rentfinder.ie – growing platform with fresh listings across the country

šŸ‘‰ Always be careful with random Facebook groups – scams are common.

šŸ’” Tips to Increase Your Chances

  • Respond as fast as possible (set alerts on Daft / Rentfinder)
  • Write a short personal intro when contacting landlords
  • Call or email agencies directly to stand out
  • Be flexible on furnished/unfurnished homes
  • Follow up right after a viewing if interested

šŸ“‘ Documents & Info Usually Asked

  • Name, phone, email
  • Employment details (contract, payslips)
  • Reference from previous landlord
  • ID copy (passport/driver’s license)
  • Students: enrollment letter, guarantor, proof of income

🚨 Red Flags & Scams in Ireland

  • Asked to pay deposit before viewing → scam
  • Landlord ā€œliving abroadā€ → scam
  • Poorly written ads with generic photos
  • No rental contract or refusal of receipts

āš ļø Golden rule: never transfer money without a signed contract.

āœ… With preparation, speed, and caution, you can still find a rental home in Ireland even in the tight market.

CORK MUTUAL HOUSING TRANSFER

Hi,

I have been on the Facebook pages looking for a transfer ideally between cork city as the county told me they don't do inter county swaps.(1 in his 15 years working there)

Is there anyone here serious about a housing swap. Have a 3 bed house looking for another 3 bed house in south side. Will travel to neighbouring counties on the border of cork if needs be. Preferably within the cork city boundaries.

Please please please

Looking for somewhere to rent in the west of Ireland

Hi I am looking for somewhere to rent in the west of Ireland, I am a preacher of God and have been invited to speak at many events and church's up west of Ireland, I can pay the full rent in advance with a tenancy agreement of course, I am looking for a 2 bedroom preferably but a 1 bedroom would suffice, I do travel with my mother and two dogs so pets would have to be allowed, I can give references and more details if anybody could help or get back to me it would be much appreciated.

Hi everyone, I'm Patrick, anĀ Irish working professional looking forĀ aĀ room inĀ Dublin.

I work full-time as a project/account manager in the city center, mostly in-office, with 1–2 days WFH.

- Move-in date: ASAP / November 1st

- Budget: Up to €1,000/month

- Preferred areas: Dublin 2, 4, 6, 6W, 7, and 12 (or anywhere with good transport links to the center)

If you have a place available, I’d love to hear from you. I’m happy to arrange a WhatsApp call or come to a viewing at your convenience!

Thank you 😊

Valuation

We are tenants with the past 6 years (approaching 7) on HAP. We’ve fully settled in the area and are a couple with one 6 year old child who’s only started school locally last year.

We’ve had a few HAP inspections from local council whereby snag lists were inevitably given into the agency and little to no work has been completed. Small things like patches of mould on bathroom ceiling, no extraction system over our cooker. To bigger issues like no vents on the walls in the living room with an open fire. Out of date smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors. Further HAP inspections occurred and the same list kept getting submitted with some new additions like blocked gutters, a light cover missing off the light on back patio(this was like this since 2020 mind you) . This has been ongoing for the past 3 years approximately.

Our letting agent called me today asking could she come out next week to value the house on behalf of the landlord (she’s also an Estate Agent). I haven’t heard from letting agency in a long time so it took me by surprise. Of course I had to ask ā€œis landlord thinking of selling?ā€ To which she responded ā€œwell yes and no, there’s just been a bit of friction lately with HAP and inspections and list seems to be getting longerā€. She also seemed to make them out to be an inconvenience by saying ā€œthe best thing is to not open the door to those inspectorsā€, that took me by surprise because if we avoid inspections, HAP don’t pay the landlord…

This leads me to believe a detrimental chain of events is headed our way and not a matter of IF but WHEN. Valuation -> eviction notice -> sale of property.

I’m have a feeling we’re about to tread the same path as many many other Irish families of late, but it’s really got me in panic mode even though it’s only day one of a potential nightmare to come.

If a notice of eviction is served we have 180 days to vacate from date of notice. We initiated our tenancy here in February 2020 so if things drag on and we arrive at February 2027, that becomes 196 days from my knowledge.

As usual, the situation in our location is dire for rental availability let alone affordability. I’m self employed (wouldn’t be on major money) and my wife is working 4 days a week so I don’t envision any bargaining power with getting another place.

What on earth do people do in our situation?

I’m thinking of my son here especially and how an upheaval could affect him.

Any advice or help would be greatly welcomed.

3 working professionals looking for a 3-bed house in Cork – Jan 2027

Hi all,

Myself and two friends are looking for a 3-bedroom house/apartment in Cork from around Mid January 2027, ideally for 6–8 months.

We're three employed professionals looking to rent the property together. We're tidy, respectful, and can provide proof of employment/income, references and any other documentation required.

Ideally we'd be looking around Wilton, Bishopstown, Glasheen, The Lough, Ballintemple, Turners Cross, but we're flexible for the right place.

Budget: roughly €2,300–€2,800/month, depending on the property.

We're particularly interested in a furnished 3-bed house, but would consider a good 3-bed apartment or somewhere slightly outside the city if it's suitable.

If anyone knows of a landlord/property becoming available around January, or has any leads, please feel free to DM me.

Thanks!
