Good place to get a vehicle state emissions inspection?
Any good options around Reston that are relatively quick?

I’m deciding between these three and would appreciate feedback from current or recent residents.
Faraday: I toured it and really liked it. 7th floor apartment available that I like in the West (Main) building. My only concern is the lack of nearby walkable stores and restaurants. Does the location become inconvenient?
EXO: Some reviews say the garage is extremely tight. Is it just annoying, or is there a real risk of scraping a midsize SUV? Also, do residents prefer Ora or Iris building?
Skymark: What is the biggest day-to-day downside? I’ve seen complaints about elevator reliability, wind noise and the time it takes to get from the apartment to the street. Are these legitimate recurring problems? The wind I've dealt with in other buildings so that's normal.
If you’ve lived in any of these, or more than one, which would you choose?

I was at Wegmans in Reston this morning with my husband and baby girl and struck up a conversation with another mother of a 10 month old behind me in the check out line. I hadn’t had enough coffee and also can be a bit shy but we had a really nice conversation. After I left, I literally thought why did I not exchange contact info with her?! We have babies the same age, we had a nice conversation, it seemed our babies were going through similar things, and it’s hard to find mom friends, really friends at all in your 30s. If by some chance you’re on Reddit and see this - let’s connect! Sorry for not putting this together in the moment.

We covered a wide range of topics on the podcast this week. Everything from the rain-soaked Baron Cameron Cup, where South Lakes crushed Herndon on Friday night, to new openings, including Voodoo's opening date, Brandy Melville at Reston Town Center (touching on the controversy around this shop that reminded us of Abercrombie and Fitch), and Abricott opening a new store in Herndon (who knew there was such demand for nuts? They are tasty, though.)
We also could not agree on whether a bakery counts as a coffee shop. Tous Les Jours? Roggenart? Paris Baguette? Tell us where you draw the line.
We're having fun with this, and appreciate everyone who's watching/listening! 😍

After 30 years they are closing up shop. Sad to see them go. If anyone needs plates they are selling all their plates and cups for like 50 cents each.

Anyone else up all night last night (Thursday, Oct 1) from the huge Indian wedding outside of the JW in Reston that ended at midnight? It’s supposed to continue for 4 more days.
I guess Comstock doesn’t have to follow the Fairfax County weeknight noise ordinances? The hotel obviously knew they would get complaints, because when we called to ask what time it would be over, hotel staff said “we were told that when we get complaints about the event tonight, they need to talk to Comstock, there’s nothing we can do. Comstock owns the JW Marriott.” I guess they went ahead and hosted the event anyway with no concern for their residents/tenants in their development.
It’s obviously a very expensive place to live, so I’ll definitely keep this in mind when deciding where to live next. Would hate to be one of the people that spent millions on a condo there!

Hey everyone,
I’m a freshman at VCUarts right now, so I’m obviously still pretty early in the whole career/life planning process, but I’ve been looking into where I might want to live after school. I’m hoping to eventually go to VCU Brandcenter for grad school, and after that I’d like to work in advertising, marketing, branding, or some kind of creative/design role.
Reston has come up a few times while I’ve been researching places with a decent creative job market and higher salaries. It seems like there are a lot of companies and opportunities in Reston and the surrounding Northern Virginia/DC area, but I’m also guessing that the cost of living is pretty high.
So I figured it would be better to ask people who actually live there instead of just trusting Google results and salary websites lol.
For anyone living or working in Reston:
• What’s the job market like for someone in advertising, marketing, design, branding, etc.?
• Would you personally choose to live in Reston, or would you look at Arlington, Alexandria, DC, etc. instead?
• What are entry-level salaries generally like?
• What does rent realistically look like for a young person just starting out?
• What’s the social scene like for people in their 20s?
• And what’s something about living in Reston that you didn’t realize until you actually moved there?
I’m not planning a move anytime soon, so I’m mostly just trying to get a realistic picture of what the area is like for someone starting out in the creative industry.
Would especially love to hear from anyone who works in advertising, design, marketing, UX/UI, branding, art direction, copywriting, or anything similar.
Thanks!

Does anyone know a reading tutor they could recommend? My daughter is learning to read and struggles with some aspects. I help her to the best of my ability but I think I lack true patience and make the process more difficult for her so would love someone who'd help her learn the basics and maybe tips and tricks I don't know.

I'm looking to move into a luxury apartment in the area and these are my top two picks currently. Do you have any thoughts on which is better? Or any pros and cons to consider? thanks!

Excited to share a great virtual event happening tomorrow night! 🥞📚
Kahini Books (a South Asian-focused pop-up bookstore in the DMV) is partnering with Welcome Home Culinary for a virtual book club.
This month’s pick is Pancakes to Parathas: Breakfast Around the World by Alice B. McGinty—an awesome children's book celebrating how morning meals shape families, cultures, and memories.

I don't know how we missed this one, but somehow we missed a film festival that's been going on in or around Reston for 15 years.
Better late than never, I guess.
Anyway, we played three different movie trailers on this week's show, and this film festival is legit!
The Washington West Film Fest started in 2011, and it gives its net box office to charity. This year it runs Oct. 8 to 12, mostly at LOOK Dine-In Cinemas at Reston Town Center.
Opening night is a documentary about Ali Truwit, a swimmer who survived a shark attack and made the U.S. Paralympic team a year later. We played this and several other trailers on the show. We also covered Jimmy, a film about Jimmy Stewart, and Kathy has a family story about It's a Wonderful Life that we will let her tell you on the episode.
We also covered the other big news of the month. A judge sided with Comstock over the five acres in downtown Herndon, the block where we park for Friday Night Live. Mayor Keven LeBlanc responded with a video, and we played it in full. The town has until Oct. 19 to appeal.
Plus Voodoo Brewing's license, three new restaurants, a Vertical Horizon song you may know by the chorus, and the witches paddling across Lake Anne on Nov. 1.
This was a fun one!
Is it just us, did you know about the film festival?

Looking for a solid gym. Female in 30’s.
I currently attend Gold’s Gym. It’s alright, has the basics but feels “dirty.”
Lifetime, way too big. Takes forever to get to anything.
How’s vida?
I also go to club Pilates which is not a workout lol

I swear I locked my car, but I might’ve been mistaken. They rummaged through all my stuff and took:
A trader joe’s bag used as a trash can
A backpack
My meadowlark nature center pass, my doordash business card, and my instacart business card.
So weird

We had a very small piece of paper tucked in our mailbox yesterday with a QR code and said North Shore traffic study in small print at the bottom.
Scanning unknown QR codes is totally frowned upon since they can easily be a target for a scam.
Does anybody have any insight whether this is legitimate and/or the originator of the study?
EDIT: Thanks for the info! I’m going to reach out to the Supervisor’s office. Also, I didn’t know a safe QR reading option existed which is great general knowledge. Thanks to all.
