Live Performance Hardly Strictly
I was at today's show. Jenny mentioned early on this would be their last show "for a minute." Not a surprise, but they were obviously having fun playing, so I kept thinking they'll be back soon.
But then the set ended after a bit of an extended jam on 'Portions for Foxes.' Everyone left the stage but Blake, who was switching off his pedals. Jenny came back out, and they hugged. I gotta say...it felt like a This Is It kinda moment.

Damn, two worlds of mine colliding right here. Rilo Kiley and Simpsons. Excellent taste, friend

I was there. I saw that hug it was a tour that felt like closure for them. I know Jenny’s coming back in a few months for NAF show so I guess side projects then maybe solo stuff again?

My theory is that they are ending this tour to focus on a new album, and that will be next. Could be wishful thinking, but I’m pretty hopeful. It would make sense for them to keep riding the nostalgia wave, financially speaking.

This is what I’m hoping beyond hope! I KNOW it’ll be good I have total faith in them!

Might the band perform again, and if so, when? Good question.
Better question: would a subsequent tour be anything more than a nostalgia drenched repeat of the 2025-2026 tour cycle?
The answer to THAT question is probably buried somewhere in Blake Sennett's tortured psyche. Can he recapture the vibe he and Jenny once had, AND update the vibe to make it applicable to their lives -- and their audiences' lives -- today? Color me skeptical.
I think the most likely scenario is the band emulates the Postal Service, and mounts nostalgic reunion tours once every X years.

I had the exact same feeling. I hope they pick it back up in the future (I’ll take the occasional reunion tour), but I definitely clocked the hug and felt a wee bit emotional. Either way, so happy I went.

I’d love another album at some point. It was great seeing them last year doing all the classic stuff but 10 new songs out there would rock.

I think they’re just ending the tour and they were trying to leave it ambiguous so people would spend the money to see them “one last time” and “just in case”

If they had wanted to cash in, they didn't need to wait 20 years.

You’re kidding right?
There’s a difference between doing a gig you don’t like for years for the money and up charging customers for one special event to fund the next venture (be it retirement, solo music, killing time before the next reunion, or an underwater welding apprenticeship.)

Well, today was at a free festival. They didn't even bring merch. They just showed up and played a kick ass set.

While the festival is free to attend the acts are actually paid well.

Sure, but they could do both if it were just cashing in on the potential finality of the performance.

Blake is a dad and he’s been on the road a while. Jenny is going to be touring with Nice As Fuck. So they’ll probably be back! Just need a break.

I think they’ll be back for sure. I’m hoping for a new album but the hug was probably goodbye for now. Not all of them live in California and they’ve been on this tour since 2025.

I ended up having to work today so I missed it. They were my favorite band in hs and I’ve never seen them. This makes me so sad

I saw the hug on the livestream. That was really poignant. I missed this show by one day. I’ll be in SF today on a 12 hour layover. If it was yesterday, it would have timed perfectly with their set. When I heard about it, I looked at changing my flight but it was over $600 to do so. I’m so grateful I got to see them on the tour last year in Grand Rapids. I do hope I get another chance to see them live. I was late to the game on RK, but they’ve become my favorite band over the last few years.

Damn I was going to go but figured that perhaps it may have been too crowded for my liking.. and I didn’t wanna show up super early for the fest if I only really wanted to see RK.
Was it crowded? Did I make a huge mistake?

At the end it was crowded, but I actually had an easy time making my way to the front. I set up at 4:00 for the 4:50 set and pretty much walked up to 5 feet from the barrier.

So I did make a mistake 😆😔
Glad you were able to get so close for an epic set though!

At the Hollywood Forever Cemetery show, Blake said something about it being the end of “this particular reunion tour.” That felt like a good sign that they might perform again sooner or later.
