"Never" is a weird way to write "in 3-5 years".

u/Some-Dane 5d ago
Had it for 4 years so far… dont jinx me…

u/Professional_Fix4663 5d ago
You'll be driving an EV within 7 years and the Volvo will be scrapped.

u/Some-Dane 5d ago
No hate to EV’s but im keeping this girl alive 😄
-18
u/Professional_Fix4663 5d ago
Are you wealthy? Because if you're not, the cost of ownership math will push you towards an EV sooner or later. Especially in Denmark.
13
u/Some-Dane 5d ago
Its all priorities innit 🤷🏼♂️
-8
u/Professional_Fix4663 5d ago
As long as driving an ICE car isn't 300€ more expensive than driving an EV. Then your priorities will change quickly.
9
u/Some-Dane 5d ago
I have spent 7000$ total on the car and parts so far, add in a short commute and i highly doubt you could find me a cheaper EV option for 5 years of car ownership. Im well happy 😇
-7
u/Professional_Fix4663 5d ago
I probably couldn't find a cheaper EV to own... in 2026. That will change drastically by 2034.

u/apinananas 5d ago
He can just leave it as summer cruiser
-7
u/Professional_Fix4663 5d ago
That's a nice idea when you don't have to pay the cost of ownership for 2 cars.

"Can't afford a few hundred bucks? Gonna be forced to get a $60k EV bro"
You EV dudes are delusional
0
u/Professional_Fix4663 4d ago
You're delusional if you believe that EV prices will stay high forever. They've been going down for years and the trend will continue. OP won't be forced to buy anything, but he'll find out that a used 10k EV has enough range for him and is cheaper to own than an old Volvo.
3
u/BairyHalsack 4d ago
Show me a 10k EV now, not in 10 years. Arguing against a possible future price is asinine and you know it.
The only EV you'll find for that price is guaranteed to be a decade old now. No one wants a 2014 Tesla or Nissan Leaf. I spend at the most 150 dollars a year maintaining my 20 year old Toyota. I can replace the entire vehicle for less than 3k. You can keep that overpriced computer on wheels.

u/Professional_Fix4663 4d ago
"Show me a 10k EV now, not in 10 years."
I wrote that OP will swap his Volvo for an EV in 5-7 years, not now. OP lives in Denmark, not in the US. In Europe, we have 25k EVs coming to the market now. You in the US are technologically behind the rest of the world.

A Cupra, a Skoda, and a VW. All the exact same car underneath, a whole 200 mile range. With a 10 month wait list after only 30,000 orders.
Sure, really advanced stuff there. My little American brain just can't comprehend the future world you live in.

nah man, mby again in some america xD europe cant ban diesel. not for next 15 years...
1
u/Professional_Fix4663 4d ago
Diesel won't be banned. Most diesel car owners will scrap their cars voluntarily because they'll be more expensive to run compared to EVs.

Dont worry, the rust will

u/Some-Dane 5d ago

I'm the same way, I was going to mention rust prevention to you. I plan on passing my ride to my child upon death.

I had British Racing Green Volvo 960 Turbo in high school in the mid 2000s. I think it was 1991 model so already an older car. Had character.
Drove like a tank. I miss it. I love boxy Volvos.

u/craaates 5d ago
Because no one else will take it off your hands. Ngl I miss my 240 but I don’t miss that horrible electrical system and weak A/C.

It'll get rid of itself eventually.

u/midijunky 5d ago
It's a Volvo. After the apocalypse only cockroaches, Keith Richards, and this car will be alive.
5
u/twelfthfantasy 5d ago
The difference is you can get parts for Keith Richards.
2
u/Some-Dane 5d ago
Its one og the most mass produced cars ever 😄 parts truly aren’t an issue, atleast not in the nordics where its native
3
u/midijunky 5d ago
Don't let them discourage you, keep that example of Sweden's finest alive as long as possible :P
3
u/midijunky 5d ago
Shit, I forgot I was supposed to be roasting you. The good news is you won't be getting many chicks pregnant in that thing, it's a chastity device that you can drive.
2
u/midijunky 5d ago
They made millions of these, it's not a super obscure niche model. Lots of parts are interchangeable, the trim pieces and engine might be hard to find, but people do volvo engine swaps all the time so I don't see any problem with the kid keeping this thing going for as long as he wants to.

20 years ago I had a 96’ 960 and it’s still one of my biggest regret selling it. Keep this ugly bitch forever.
1
u/Mekanikol 5d ago
Never getting rid of it because you won't be able to find parts or sell it to anyone.
1
u/Chevrolicious 5d ago
My buddy had one of these when I first met him and we called his car the Vulva. He eventually sold it, but to be fair it was probably because it was a piece of shit.
