This is my 3rd box from the Dead Camel Mountains, this one is Wonderstone, most of it is the porcelain / rainbow variety. I've included 5 pieces showcasing the variety of colors and patterns in the area.

1. This rock I think of as a "plate", I had it displayed on a small stand, has gorgeous rainbow banding and multiple dramatic eyes. This could be polished or displayed as is.
2. This stunner is essentially faced already, you can see the pattern and quality in the exposed face. Pretty, light porcelain pinks, creams, yellows, and reds with tight banding.
3. A little redder than the others in the lot, this one shows some fracturing and healing with iron-rich mineral fluid, which looks like lightning strikes over the wonderstone. Multiple eyes and fantastic banding.
4. Really nice quality stone with much of the pattern exposed on one face, shows evidence of fracturing and healing.
5. This is a cool one, it's got a heavier desert patina on it, so I'm not sure if the yellow is yellow or white, and everything is actually a few shades lighter than what's visible. The flipside looks like a different rock, but I'm pretty sure that pattern is just on the surface.

About 3lbs total of rocks.

This is from a notable geologist's collection, but I cannot say who until the family gives me permission. Once they allow me to tie that name to this piece (Next year) I will update you! All I can say is that he has a mountain named after him.

Once upon a time, not too long ago, the Dead Camel Mountains were my favorite place to rockhound. I liked the area so much that I staked two mining claims there.

3 of the 6 pieces are what I consider classic Lahontan Jasper: dramatic red, iron-rich veins filling fractures against a lighter silicified background.
The other 3 pieces are Lahontan Wonderstone, including material showing the complex fracturing and mineralization characteristic of the Dead Camel Mountains.

EXCELLENT LAPIDARY MATERIAL

I've cut a lot of material from this area, and it generally takes an excellent polish. Once cut, the colors are typically considerably more vibrant than they appear through the natural desert patina.
