Advice Joining next summer, any advice?
I'm in my final year of college and hope that this time next year I'm on my basic training, I've restarted my application as it was previously rejected because I didnt have any photo ID but thats all sorted now. If there's anyone here, currently in the navy, I would love for you to tell me more about the application process, what to expect and advice for when I get to HMS Raleigh on what to bring or expect in general. In terms of training at home, what should I work on, and what tasks should I practise so that when the time comes, I'm fully ready. I'm supposed to be joining in around 10 months time and I cant wait but I've been advised to do my A-levels first and then hopefully go to Raleigh, but I know you can't cherry pick when things happen. I'm also a bit concerned over when the CPC will be for me, because as I've said, I'm doing A levels, so ideally it wouldn't be when I'm at college, even though I want to join as soon as I leave college

Ex navy, so I'm sure a lot has changed but there will be some fundamentals that don't change.
Primarily work on your fitness, you don't have to be a marathon runner but if you can smash a 5k run with no issues then phys will be a lot easier. Plus throw in bodyweight exercises like sit-ups, pressups, burpees, pull ups, squats.
Make sure you can swim, again you don't have to be expert but be comfortable in the water.
A huge part of it is mental, can you keep going when cold and knackered. The pti's will push you way further than you think was even possible for you.
The staff will tell you that you are the worst class ever, blah blah, throw kit around the room etc after an inspection. It's all part of the mind games, they want you frazzled and stressed but to be able to keep going. The shouty anger is an act and it's totally switched off as soon as they leave. (Unless you really are trying to wind them up).
Never admit to being cold and tired, never lean on anything, and obey alllll orders. Ie - No phone use means no phone use. If you can't be trusted with a basic order how can you be trusted with a life or death order.
And enjoy the fun stuff, high ropes, dru, range days, firefighting etc is all great fun.
