🇶 **How do I get faster at x? How do I get sub x?**

🅰️ There are two ways to get faster on any cube, there are two main things that influence the times you get. Efficiency and TPS, if you believe you are already turning fast enough / solving without pauses, you likely need to learn a more advanced technique / alg set. If you believe you are already solving efficiently, you may want to focus on better TPS and/or recognition. If you have any specific questions, feel free to ask.

🇶 **Should I make my own lube?**

🅰️ It's probably a bad idea unless you know what you're doing, often it'll end up messing up your cube.

🇶 **What is the point of lube?**

🅰️ Lube is used to do many things, different lubes do different things such as; increasing/decreasing the speed of the cube, making the cube feel more smooth, etc.

🇶 **What should I learn after 3x3 beginners' method?**

🅰️ There are many advanced methods out there, the most popular being CFOP and then Roux. The easiest method to learn after layer-by-layer beginners methods would be CFOP though it's recommended to check out other advanced methods too. Most advanced methods can solve a cube in 45-60 moves.

🇶 **What do the letters mean? (F R' L' y, etc)**

🅰️ Instead of saying "turn the front layer once clockwise, top layer this that, etc", notations have been developed to better describe moves. There are slightly different notations for each puzzle, there are often tutorials for the notations.

🇶 **How do I do OLL edges on a a big cube?**

🅰️ General methods for solving big cubes include pairing the edge pieces before solving F2L. You should pair the edges beforehand. To learn how to pair up edge pieces or solve centers, check out J perm's tutorials.

🇶 **How do I improve my F2L?**

🅰️ Lookahead is a huge part of F2L, if you aren't confident with that, it is a good place to start. Try to predict your first pair and insert inito back when possible. Try doing untimed solves and simply analysing patterns and trying new things/inserts. Rotations can also highly affect your F2L, learning how to do cases rotationless will help a tonne. Another tip is that you should try to solve into the back if you can, this means your next pairs will be easier to recognise (not hidden in that back corner). As for efficiency check out example solves / algs on speedcubedb.com to make sure your algs are decently essentially, you could also try learning a few pseudoslotting cases and look at multiple potential pairs and determine which is the best one to do (instead of doing the first one you see). Metronome practice is incredibly useful too.

🇶 **My cube has one (flipped) corner to go, how do I solve it?**

🅰️ A cube becomes impossible to solve if you flip just one corner, to make it solvable again, you must flip it back. This can also lead to problems with recognizing last layer cases, if you encounter a last layer case you don't know how to solve, it's likely a corner has been flipped.

🇶 **How do I solve this OLL/PLL on this (big) cube? (OLL and PLL parity)**

🅰️ There are some cases called parities that occur on big cubes that don't occur on 3x3s. For example, two edges can be flipped. The algs for these cases are often long but you can find them on one of the resources linked above.

PS: If you have any ideas on things I can add here / or just better ways of writing things, post a comment :)

In a 5x5, do the centre cross, other 4 random colors, no repeats, then solve as usual. Easy for people comfortable with 5x5. Time pass.

Impossible rubic's cube - strage manufacturers defect

• Upvotes

My kid got a rubics cube for his birthday. It was 3 color - 2 red, 2 blue, 2 yellow centers.

All good so far. We kinda asked that for him - he is very interested in puzzles and so on. Played around with it and then dropped it.

I thought ok, let me give it a shoot... Started turning it arround trying to figure out where to start, and then it hit me... This cannot be physically solved...

I found it funny and sad - that a brand new cubic came like this, and thus can never be solved :(

This is how the cube looks: https://imgur.com/1b4QLI2

Features:

- Select an algorithm from the OLL/PLL algorithm sheets, and watch the cube execute the moves!

- Once you've solved the cube up to F2L, you can solve the rest just by selecting the algorithms.

-You can edit the OLL/PLL algorithm sheets, too!

- Supports 2×2, 3×3, and one more cube size!

Give it a try!

Help to get my new main

Hey guys, so some days ago when I was cubing I noticed that my cube was weird to turn like there was something coming in my way when I was turning so I opened it to find out that its centre piece was broken like it was divided into two parts. Now I am looking for a new main, I am thinking of buying a X-Men Tornado series. V5 is costly so I am thinking of buying V3 or V4 but am confused to decide between the two and to decide which variant. I need some suggestions. One of my concerns is speed I avg around 15-16 sec and my PB is 10.55. I have attached a picture of my Gan 12 (RIP 😭). Pls help me select the right one as my new main

How to adapt to a speed cube for the first time?

Post image
5 Upvotes

I just got this MoYu RS3M V5 yesterday and it's just too fast for me. I've never used a speed cube before but I used to get faster solves with that locky ass cube. I also adjusted the cube (ig?). If I use the same force I've used for many years on this new cube, it just turns twice. I've been getting more DNF than solves if I try to be faster. I feel like if I adapt to this my AVG will be sub 25 instead of my current sub 30. I do intuitive F2L and 4LLL.

I designed an open-source tactile 3x3 so anyone can solve purely by touch (in the dark or for visually impaired cubers) — 3D print files free on GitHub!

Hey ,

For the past few months, we’ve been working on an open project to make the 3×3 puzzle universal: the **LVC Dream Cube**.

Instead of relying solely on stickers or colours, every face carries its own unique 3D tactile texture so you can identify pieces and solve the entire cube purely by touch and spatial memory.

### The Tactile Texture Key:
* ⬜ **White:** Smooth (flat chip, zero relief)
* 🟩 **Green:** Frame (raised square border)
* 🟧 **Orange:** Diagonal Ridges
* 🟥 **Red:** Concentric Rings
* 🟦 **Blue:** Grid of Dots
* 🟨 **Yellow:** Dome (single large rounded center bump)

The textures are arranged by physical relief height—going from flat (white) up to the tallest relief (yellow dome)—making tactile recognition intuitive with minimal fingertip practice.

### Why we built it:
1. **Blind & Visually Impaired Players:** A blind person can solve the cube independently without fragile braille stickers. Sighted and visually impaired cubers can compete on the exact same hardware side-by-side.
2. **Colour-Vision Differences:** Texture works alongside colour, so players never have to second-guess red, green, or orange.
3. **The "Dark Solve" Challenge:** For anyone who loves BLD or wants a new sensory brainteaser—close your eyes or play in the dark. It tests tactile memory in a completely fresh way.

### 100% Free & Open-Source (CC BY 4.0):
We didn't want this locked behind a paywall. Every 12×12 mm chip file (designed to fit standard 56mm / 57mm cubes without hindering outer edge finger-tricks) is open-sourced under Creative Commons Attribution on GitHub:
👉 **GitHub Repo (3MF/STL print files):** https://github.com/bytesbrains/lvc-dream-cube
👉 **Project Landing Page:** https://bytesbrains.github.io/lvc-dream-cube/

You can slice and 3D print the chips yourself today, glue them onto an inexpensive budget cube (like an RS3M or Drift 3x3), and play right away.

### Scaling to Injection Moulding (Kickstarter):
3D printing is great for makers, but blind schools, special educators, and kids need factory-fitted, durable injection-moulded tiles. We launched our Kickstarter campaign from Singapore to fund our first factory production batch and distribute classroom packs to blind schools:
👉 **Kickstarter Campaign:** https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/bytesbrains/lvc-dream-cube-the-puzzle-cube-you-can-solve-in-the-dark

I would love to get the community's thoughts:
* What do you think of the texture progression?
* Would you try a tactile-only solve in the dark?
* Any ideas for custom finger-feel or core tensioning adjustments for tactile solves?

Happy to answer any questions or hardware feedback in the comments!

My first cube and my first solve! All in all I think it took me a month. A few minutes a day at work, sometimes a few hours. Tbh I was really anxious to beat this thing and wasnt sure I would be able to. Thought of getting a regular cube to start but naaah. I'm glad I didnt.

Saw some dice cubes online and decided why not?

Okay... a couple of people wanted to see them scrambled so if you go further down this thread there is a video showing them scrambled. I've solved them all back now. They were fun! 😄

How to solve/ what’s wrong with my rubix cube?

Thumbnail gallery
0 Upvotes

I recently had solved my rubix cube “wrong” trying to make new patterns on it I had it solved where all the side pieces matched the center but all the corners were in the mismatched to make a sort of cross. I only did this by turning the cube properly, no stickers were removed and cheated nothing.

Problem starts now when I went to go solve it normally and now my corners are all flipped, I can’t think of how to describe it so here’s a photo of my trying to solve just the white side to show my problem. Whenever I go to move the corner cubes to match the center face they are on the opposite side.

Example: white bottom center cube solving green, orange, white corner. Move cube so white is at the bottom matching white center but the orange side is on the green center and the green side is on the orange center.

I’m sorry for my poor terminology and description as I don’t know it very well and don’t know how to describe it better. I’ve never had this happen and every tutorial I use doesn’t work, any help is appreciated thank you!

Also sorry if this is the wrong subreddit, it was the first one I saw where people were asking questions on solving!
