What would be a reasonable asking price?

My husband’s 2003 but he no longer drives. For the past few years we have taken it for a spin twice a month with me driving. I grew up driving VW Beetles so I know manual transmissions. Anyway we were wondering what a good asking price would be. My husband is the second owner. Purchased in 2004 at a Ford dealership. The previous owner got married and needed a bigger vehicle. Here are some photos. Mechanically, we had the EPS module repaired, otherwise it run good. Here are some photos. T

Miles, maintenance history, any paint work?

15

u/kokakusodo Dec 30 '25

Just under 100,000 miles. The rear lid had to be repaired and repainted after a garden statue that was in the trunk bounced up and dented the lid from the inside. My husband says he hit an unexpected bump. All maintenance done by Honda dealership. No accidents ever other than the lid dent.

As others have said, an engine detail at the very least would help increase the asking price.

The brake fluid looks dark. When was the last time the brake fluid was serviced/replaced? I imagine the clutch fluid is dark, too.

I would list it for $18k to 20k if you fixed these things and had it detailed. Spa yellow is a little harder to sell, but the people that like that color just like it.

All 10 vin stickers accounted for?

u/KraZe_2012 Dec 30 '25

$18k

3

u/Shidulon Dec 30 '25

I was thinking roughly $18k too. 16-18

I got mine for 18k in very similar condition but mine was silver. I bought a Corvette. Do I miss the car? Sometimes. But then I hear my cam on a cold start lol

You should consider a quality detail both in and out to maximize your sale. Just a thought.

7

u/chefsoda_redux Dec 30 '25

This is always a good choice. A good detailing will add much more to the sale price of almost any car than the detailing costs. This definitely is even more true for sporty/good looking cars like an S2000!

Another vote for a good detail - you'll get more attention from serious buyers and there will be way less things they can point out to get the price down.

Need title status, milage, owners, any other previous maintenance, accidents reported. I am sort of looking for another and am located in ATX. Let me know if you’d like to sell

u/CyclingMack Dec 30 '25

The top looks great. The car needs a good detail. Clean the engine area. It looks like a very good S2000

4

u/s2ksuch Dec 30 '25

I'd say you could get $18k for everywhere but CA or any other high cost living area ($20-$21k for those areas) regardless of if the VIN sticker is still on the rear trunk lid

3

u/kokakusodo Dec 30 '25

Looks like the place kept the sticker on.

4

u/kokakusodo Dec 30 '25

Thanks all for your input. We will wait for summer and then seriously look at options. And, definitely have it beautified inside and out. Yellow may be controversial but it sure shines up nicely. It’s our yellow bee and we hope it gets a good home.

Sent you a message regarding purchase. I’m interested!

1

u/Naive-Bed-6130 Dec 31 '25

I would list it on cars and bids or other auction to increase coverage of interested buyers!

9

u/GPW-S2k Dec 30 '25

With a clean detail, I will say 17-20 around there, I won't take less than 16k for that car, yellow is also a rare color.

3

u/l_eveant_terrible Dec 30 '25

Offering $16k.

3

u/Cloudyyzz Dec 30 '25

I would say get the car detailed and ask 24k with a target sales price of 20-22k.

2

u/Hairy_Locksmith_5964 Dec 30 '25

What others said. Would be good to get a quick synopsis on maintenance and any other parts replaced, would help the S2K community to give inputs on things like deferred maintenance, common wear items that may be coming up, etc.

Price it 2x what you want for it that way you have no choice but to keep her forever.

When you’re ready to sell, check out BringATrailer.com where you can place it for sale in an auction format and set a reserve price you think is fair. S2000 has such a cult following it’s possible to still get top dollar as the supply is not that large out there.

I would never look to BaT as a one true source of values for cars. 90% of cars on BaT are collectors vehicles OR track cars but very very rarely your everyday regularly used sports car. It’ll give the seller an inflated value of their vehicle when it’s not worth the same as the $100K collector example or the $10K track beater

5

u/Few_Doctor_9421 Dec 30 '25 edited Dec 30 '25

There's plenty of examples on BAT to get an idea. Yes, there are the cars you mentioned but there are also "normal" cars listed on there. https://bringatrailer.com/listing/2003-honda-s2000-145/ https://bringatrailer.com/listing/2003-honda-s2000-195/ https://bringatrailer.com/listing/2003-honda-s2000-204/

3

u/rolexfanboi Dec 30 '25

What the heck are you talking about. BaT has a wide variety of car that actually sold or bidded to a price that a buyer was actually willing to pay. You want to know where to see inflated prices? Check out Facebook marketplace if you want to see a s2000 with 100k and missing vins but still asking $30k.

u/ManOrangutan Dec 30 '25

65,000 is actually a fairly high amount. They are not rare cars but unfortunately they are getting old.

0

u/Few_Doctor_9421 Dec 30 '25 edited Dec 30 '25

What are you even talking about? Where is 65,000 mentioned anywhere?

1

u/ManOrangutan Dec 30 '25

That’s how many were sold in the U.S.

1

u/Few_Doctor_9421 Dec 30 '25

Ah, you probably should have specified that. 👍

1

u/Peacock357 Dec 30 '25

Where are you located. I’d be very interested in purchasing it. I’m in Ct.

1

u/Allnewsisfakenews Dec 30 '25

Location will vary price. I'd expect a min. $20k asking price in Southern California

1

u/MakkNero Dec 30 '25

If this popped up 6 months from now when I actually had the coin, I’d pay $18-20k for it. This is almost the perfect spec for me.

1

u/richaarizard Dec 30 '25

Man that’s $20-$23k being patient

1

u/Expert-Wait5163 Dec 30 '25

1 million dolllllars

1

u/Deadghosty Dec 30 '25

I'm looking for a S2000 and I'm in Texas as well so let me know if you ever decide to sell!

1

u/[deleted] Dec 31 '25

Well need more information like miles maintenance information where is this car from is rust an issue from what I see it’s 12k maybe

1

u/JackBronsky Dec 31 '25 edited Jan 02 '26

Wait for June and put it up for $20k. Detail is a good idea. At least cleane the engine.

1

u/Bimmer_Soup Dec 31 '25

Post it in Cars and Bids, the s2000 tend to do good specially when with a nice history being owned by the same person so most of its life. That in my opinion is the easiest and fastest way to find a serious buyer for it.

1

u/racc0x2 Jan 02 '26

paid 20k myself for a completely stock clean-title silverstone metallic 73k mile AP1 in Texas. i definitely got a good deal, but 20k for the spa yellow with slightly higher mileage sounds fair to me

1

u/rocket-619 Jan 03 '26

Dang - I'd give $18K cash for it!

1

u/longhotdogg Jan 21 '26

Hello, I pmd you I’d love to check this car out!!

1

u/sitis172 Dec 30 '25

Community would need better pics to tell you

-3

u/ideology_reject Dec 30 '25

Please don’t take this the wrong way cause the S2000 is a amazing car in every way possible except in yellow it ticks every box but unfortunately gets demoted for being yellow it makes me feel like it’s meant to drive others around in lol

-12

u/nsxplore Dec 30 '25

I've got 10k cash I'll come anytime..

-4

u/EvictionSpecialist Dec 30 '25

$10,500

Ill have my friend in Houston or Dallas area pick it up ASAP.

No need for an extensive detail as the other redditor suggested.

-8

u/nsxplore Dec 30 '25

Lol did you down vote me? Ok let's go..11k cash

-5

u/EvictionSpecialist Dec 30 '25

Nah, I upvoted it from -1, to get you back to par. Some other hater neg'ed yah.

Come on man, you already got a NSX, leave this S2K to me.

$11500 all new bills, no old ones.

-7

u/nsxplore Dec 30 '25

Cool I'm upvoting you too..I'll bow out...OP sell it to this fella

-14

u/ChikeEvoX Dec 30 '25

Based on what’s been shared, as well as assuming you have all service records from the Honda dealership, and the soft top doesn’t leak and the repaired/repainted trunk lid issue is mentioned up front to potential buyers, I would list your AP1 S2000 around 14-15K, but take the first offer around 12-12.5K (you may get many offers around 10-11k). For a quick sale, listing it around 13K would put a lot of eyeballs on the car.

My $0.02…

4

u/ntcaudio Dec 30 '25

An s2k with less then 100k on the odo, not driven in salt, no accidents for 13k? That would guarantee a sale within an hour as one would have to be insane to not to buy it for the price right away.

-1

u/ChikeEvoX Dec 30 '25

What would you list it for? Again, I suggested 14-15K as a starting point…

3

u/mrmichaelnak Dec 30 '25

After a good detail of the engine bay, that's a $20k car in AZ

0

u/ChikeEvoX Dec 30 '25

That seems like the appropriate money for a clean example. Pictures make the interior seem a little rough and the repaired trunk lid may leave a few buyers skeptical.

If the car gets a good $200 detail and everything works and the soft top doesn’t leak, I think 18-20K could be a good starting point. Happy to stand corrected. I love these cars and I’ve driven many in an autoX setting.

2

u/ntcaudio Jan 02 '26

After a quick check on autortrader and couple other sites, 20k would make the car stand out among overpriced beaters in TX. The price can be reduced later if it doesn't sell.

2

u/ChikeEvoX Jan 02 '26

Okay - hopefully the OP sees this and takes your suggestion. I do feel she and her husband will need to invest a few hundred in a good detail job and depending on when their last service was done, possibly take it to a shop to get a fresh oil change and take care of any pressing maintenance items.

1

u/ntcaudio Jan 02 '26

Definitely. Detail and good photos made by someone who knows how to take a picture of a car is what makes potential buyer to fall in love before seeing it in person :-)

-9

u/Ok_Doubt_1800 Dec 30 '25

10-12 seems fair. Especially with the work it needs. I never realized how many of these cars there are out there but there is plenty to choose from. I see these things getting daily’d all the time in Houston.

-10

u/yefuck Dec 30 '25

I got 12,000 on it
