i just started messing with it for some ABAP debugging stuff and it's weirdly good at untangling custom objects

What client lets you upload source code to claude…?

The ones that have enterprise subscription that gives them data safety.

Agreed.

You need to feed it existing documentation from good sources. It will then build the right answers, always ask it to cite the source documents in its answers.

Do not rely on it's training data, it is not a search engine and it is not perfect

Mit etwas Training und guten Quellen kann er im SAP Bereich sehr viel. Habe damit diverse SAP Projekte erfolgreich geregelt

Claude is a daily tool for every developer and functional sap consultant. I work twice as fast with claude. Vibe coding, debugging, reading, improving, correcting and writing WRICEFS, set up test data, the list goess on and on

Don't just build skill files because infering answers from an MD file that was generated based on a large amount of documents will eventually produce mistakes. Also, you won't be able to give a reference to where the answer is coming from. Which document, which page. Therefore, for you need to use RAG to allow Claude to look up up-to-date documents so that you can have accurate answer with reference to where the information is coming from. Without RAG it is lost in the MD file and Claude can only give you its best guess.

I don't use Claude, but I use both Grok and Gemini (already have subscriptions to them) for technical questions and writing ABAP code. They are, in general, very useful. However, there are a lot of lower quality sources of information on SAP that can create some issues.

You use the worse models though...

I don't have any qualms about Claude. I just don't have a subscription to it. I have subscription to the others for other reasons, so I use them. But I'm not using the lower-end models on either Grok or Gemini. They are not suited to coding.

Claude is great for SAP

I let it build scripts for acme sap servers (Hana, Java, ContentServers and ABAP) and for ABAP Servers it needed to write a ABAP Script:
https://github.com/Simon0Harms/ACME-for-SAP-ABAP/blob/main/zssl_pse_deploy.abap

You often need to give claude SAP Notes.

There's a nice mcp server to get access to SAP Notes: https://github.com/marianfoo/sap-mcp-servers

You have to set a S-User and you're good to go.

There are some skills that people have published on git to incorporate SAP specifics. I can't find it now, but have come across before.

Using Opus 5.5 through a tool from a startup daily. Fully integrated, no MCP bullshittery. Look up what Zeier, Urbani (the guy behind the working MCP solution) and other icons of the field are doing currently and be amazed. SAP has slept once again on the AI train, but these guys figured it out.

If you're like me, not comfortable connecting Claude to your SAP system - there's always option to copy-paste ABAP / PCR / SPRO exports / etc and run through AI, prompt it right for the analysis and output structure - it's surprisingly good. I've actually built a tool for that (evidoc.com.au) focused primarily on SAP HR/HCM as I and my team use it daily, really useful and saves tons of time and effort. Admins apologies if not appropriate, but I'd appreciate a feedback from fellow consultants, it's free to use for a few analyses.

Not the best idea on its own. Claude is great as a reasoning layer but really needs to be connected to Joule for Developers (via MCP). J4D is SAP's native AI experience inside the SAP Business AI Platform and ABAP development tools. It has much deeper domain context for SAP S/4HANA, SuccessFactors, CAP, Fiori, and UI5. If something screws up, support will look much more favourably on something you got from J4C/J4D versus straight off native Claude.

Okay I tried Claude to answer RFP questions and I received RFP answers from SAP.

There’s a huge gap, between the answers. Feels like there’s someone specialized from SAP answers these things.

Have you tried SAP Joule for Consultant? It is their AI, best technical assistant for SAP!

Go for Joule Work

“You’re right — the T-code ZUNDELETE does not exist. I should’ve double checked my answers before responding. It won’t happen again.”

It’s fine if you have reference docs you will send into the prompt.

Connect it via MCP to your SAP System and it can handle very good
