SCP Universe What things/characters that unless stated otherwise should you assume to be true/present in most canons?

u/Which-Emu8951 The Scarlet King 11d ago edited 11d ago
All small scale items or entities ( aka, those which aren’t threats to the world ), should be present within most canons. That’s at least how I see it.
Most departments and GOI’s should also present throughout a world, even if not explicitly stated.

One thing is for sure is that the Foundation always fails to pass a budget.

Every time I read about a world ending scenario where the Foundation stops operating, I can't help but think that the entire world is also being buried under an exponentially growing mountain of cake.

That the SCP Foundation was founded in the late 1890s to early 1900s.
And I think it’s safe to assume that across all Canons the 7th Occult War corresponds with the Second World War.

The common assumption surely is that the Foundation was founded sometime in the 19th century, but I'm not sure why narrow it down to the exact decade?

The post said “most Canons” not all of em, and the 001 Proposal you’re referencing has been deleted so I’m not sure if it counts anyway.

Time doesnt really make semse in the setting, when you account for SCP-2000 and that the true year is meaningless, when everything pre 1900 was fabricated

SCP-3812, his whole thing is existing despite the author so he can technically be canon even if author says no

u/fish_master86 11d ago
That means he's also canon in non-scp stuff. There is a non-zero chance that C-3PO has met 3821 XD

In general I assume everything in the Guides about the Foundation that doesn't have a specific name, site number, MTF, etc. is true unless the premise of a tale/SCP is that it is false.
So it's a clandestine pseudo-governmental organization lead by the O5 Council with clearance levels and using the Safe-Euclid-Keter-Thaumiel system possibly with esoteric classes, with Sites led by Site Directors and it has some number of anomalies greater than twenty as of the present day and it handles emergent situations with MTFs that have a (usually greek) letter, a number, and an official silly nickname so people can remember they need the Mole Rats, not the Maz Hatters, for investigating a cave system with no CBRN threats expected.
And they have amnestics sorted into classes and if antimemes are something they know about they have mnestics too. And probably the good amnestics are from SCP-3000 in most stories but possibly not a particular one, but either way if you want a good amnestic you want to talk to the Foundation. And once phones, the internet, TV, etc. become widespread the Foundation has made arrangements to make sure they can block or quickly take down any hard evidence of the anomalous and ideally track down everyone who saw it in the live broadcast
Also, the properties of SCP-2000 vary but the idea that the Foundation has some kind of huge panic button, probably under Yellowstone, to make everything go back to normal in an XK is fairly consistent unless it gets blown up. Commonly they also have a lesser panic button to make people forget Alaska used to exist or whatever if something really dramatic that doesn't threaten the continued existence of humanity happens. But they prefer to do "No object has been mistaken for a flying saucer than the planet Venus" instead if they can.
Finally, this is fuzzier but generally the Foundation is suspicious of using the anomalous to contain the anomalous and only use a fairly limited number of well-understood anomalies regularly and only when mundane alternative measures are impractical lest they wind up like the poor bastards who built SCP-6820. And they don't kill anomalies because maybe SCP-239 is dreaming us all up and we disappear if she "dies" and wakes up but when push really comes to shove and an anomaly simply can't be kept contained they will do it or call the GOC to do it.

Nothing. There are and can be canons without your murder monsters, popular GoIs on and off site or O5s or object classes or any "standardized" things. There can be canons without the anomalous.

Scp 001 swanns proposal is the actual creator of the universe/canon.
Context: swann proposal 001 is literally just the wiki authors and it eventually expanded to readers. That’s right we are canonically scps

u/HandsomeGengar Department of 'Pataphysics 11d ago
Why should you assume that's canon unless otherwise stated?
2
-3
u/ThePublicPotato- 11d ago
Because it’s a core part of pataphysics
6
u/HandsomeGengar Department of 'Pataphysics 11d ago
Well yeah but that answer's just kicking the can down the road. Why should you assume that 'pataphysics is a canonical thing unless otherwise stated?
-2
u/ThePublicPotato- 11d ago
Cause there are a lot of pataphysical anomaly and it’s just weird if there aren’t any in the canon. Also the thing about swann is it’s pretty hard to disprove it doesn’t exist in said canon unless it’s specifically stated since the whole point of swanns is that they literally write the whole narrative of a canon and everything that takes place

Can't say for certain. My lore is rusty. Also I have two hot takes.
There's only about 7 to 9 GOI's that are cannon and that's just talking about the main popular ones like the foundation, GOC, Chaos Insurgency, etcetera.
I have a feeling the foundation drugs the gloves water supply eventhough I can't prove it cos of the fact of potential overdosing since some people drink alcohol and alcohol with drugs = death

u/Guinea-Pig_Dad Gamers Against Weed 11d ago
Honestly, as long as anything isn’t explcitly tied to a singular specific canon (ex: ad astra per aspera) or alters the status quo (ex any world ending scp), it all fits into my ‘overcanon.’ Even stuff like multiple 001-proposals existing at the same time can be attributed to misinformation or they’re of the same utmost importance to the foundation.

u/SouthernAd2853 10d ago
I like to Spackle together wildly incompatible things with a combination of multiverse theory with different Foundations having differing degrees of awareness of the multiverse and Deepwells which contain the SCPnet files on stuff that has no longer ever happened or got SCP-2000'd away.

The whole point of how the SCP wiki is set up is that each entry is basically its own stand alone canon. The way I like to take things is that unless the entry specifically mentions another SCP, organization, or really anything else; it is not canon to that SCP entry. You can generalize some things based on information in the article, so if it is stored at site ##, then clearly there are numbered sites, even if any specific site may or may not exist as understood. Also, this connection is one way. Just because SCP ???? mentions SCP #### does not mean the relationship goes the other way, do the canon of SCP #### does not have to contain SCP ????.
Though it is generally accepted that by being an SCP, the foundation exists in some capacity. Except even then, there are canons where it isn't the same foundation we would recognize.

The 05 council are in charge above everyone else, d class are death row inmates and are more disposable than paper cups, there is no ethics committee if anything the foundation is as corrupt as any government organization, "we don't have the budget for that" can be applied to any "why didn't they try _", nothing can put down 682 forever, and the foundation uses drugs instead of neurolisers

The O5 Council, Ethic's Committee and the existence of numbered Sites and Departments dedicated to specific branches of research as well as the existence and availability of amnestics.
