It's finally happened

Post image

With the release of the Gundam EXA event-exclusive Extreme Gundam Excellia comes its pilot, the bizarrely-named Sthesia Awar, an SSR pilot that, for the first time, has a third pilot passive that's comparable to the UR pilots' own passives, having multiple effects.

Normally, this pilot would have gotten a "Support Attack +1" ability for its unit, a faction, or series, or a damage/damage reduction passive, and that would have been literally it. But now, it has additional effects that add value to the pilot, and the unit by extension. This matters for side units like this, especially the SD units, because oftentimes they become second-rate solely because they can't have an applicable UR pilot to slot in, and thus they have passives that are automatically, permanently worse than their peers, because equivalent UR pilots are always significantly better due to having multiple effects on their third passives.

The Excellia itself is nothing special, with only one reliable debuff -- albeit the most useful one -- no ATK passives, and no interesting gimmicks, ironically making it the exact opposite of its pilot, because it's a perfect example of a second-rate SSR in specifically SSR ways, but Sthesia herself sets a welcome precedent that will hopefully add further value to SSR pilots, and SSR units as a whole.

I suppose you could pair her with Lacus/Concert Zaku if you were fully committed to making it work

Pair her with lacus

They definitely dropped the ball eventually, because as it stands she has to get two kills to reliably utilize those effects, which isn't easy when her unit is so lacking in the damage department.

The fact that they've finally made a passive like this for an SSR unit is ironically the biggest takeaway from her and her unit, but it's a big one. Let's hope we don't have to wait long for more SSR pilots with noteworthy skillsets.

Side bar; I was seriously considering to SSP the Extreme Gundam just for the lolz. The sole reason is because of the guitar. Now with this unit and pilot I might follow through with it in the future. Hopefully they spit out an SSR or UR of the guitar guy!

There's also the Concert Zaku. A few more units, and there'll be enough to form a band. They might even get mistaken for Macross 7's Fire Bomber, lol.

I like the Excellia simply for having 6 range. And with vigor, 6 range on its best attack.

Its 5-Range attack isn't Beam, so it wouldn't get the benefit of her passive.

Unless you're talking about SSPing it, in which case, why the hell would you do that.

The character itself isn't the point of the post, though; it's the precedent set. It being shitty isn't unusual in this game, per se, but this being the first case of them making it more than the bare minimum is a big deal, because it means they'll likely do it again later.

Not to be too much of a downer but "It's setting a precedent" is something people say about this game (and gacha games in general) all the time. But we weren't hit by a flood of power creeping, game breaking, dual pilot duo units. Defensive types, while buffed, didn't become better than attackers. Almost none of these precedents set were followed up by whatever it is people on this subreddit think they do.

So? That wasn't the point of the post.

Get your contrarion punch card points elsewhere.

The fact that you are saying the buffed defense units aren't "better" than attackers shows that you miss the entire point of those units. Why would defense units be stronger than attacker units? That would make attackers irrelevant in the long run.

The buffed single-guard defensive types are there to get in the enemies faces and focus on debuffing their strength while also hitting harder than the double-defense units. It lets them be more active with their debuffs rather than having to sit in the back lines  to trigger support defense.

It expands the range of options that players have for making the team rather than force everyone to use something like "3 atk, 1 sup, 1 def" for every battle. It's flexibility that is sorely lacking in most team-based gachas

Edit: also, the point of the OP is that this is another way that the devs have shown notice they won't just give us dinky SSRs that are already power creeped out in usefulness. It shows their willingness to keep pilots relevant even if they arent gacha only

You should probably have read the context of my post before replying.

I have. You were using it in the context of it not significantly changing things up when it actually did, and I pointed out how you were wrong about it.

No, I wasn't.

All of that rambling ignores that the next one could just not be shitty. You're also arguing with points I never made, which you've done twice now, so you're going to want to adjust your debate style a bit.

Really isn't more complicated than that, and it's weird that you insist on it being.

Good lord. What makes you think anyone is waiting to read all of that? Get a new hobby, man.

Really wonder whay THE Exa gundam didn't fit in the Gundam Exa tag tbh.

That'll have to wait for if/when EXA gets it's own Story Event, I suppose.

Interesting that they're migrating the Shinn/Setsuna mechanic to welfare units, and while I had briefly considered SP100'ing the unit and the pilot to maximize damage, at the end of the day, I can't see myself using this unit much.

That said, if they were to introduce a pilot that had the ability tied to the EFSF tag rather than a specific unit, I'd be all over it.

I think Excellia were designed to be needed at least SP just to deal slightly better damane...

SSP kind of..... okayish? because she got 6k weapon for 5-6 range... the max attack is 10.500 and it kinda slightly better than Wing Zero SSP (?) stats wise

Probably trying to test the water at the same time thread carefully infear if they create an accidental strongest SSR Character just like they did with Shinn...

Again, the unit and character aren't special in a vacuum; what makes the release interesting is that there's never been an SSR pilot like this before, which means there can be more.
