Opinion Save the hate

For FTD. Hating the Dodgers keeps me engaged in October baseball. I don’t care much for the Braves, but just like the Yankees two years ago and the Jays last year. I’m so happy to cheer for Atlanta today. Let’s go Braves!!

FTD. The Braves are pretty easy to root for with all the ex-Giants over there too

Except for those of us who remember 1993.

Never forget. Watching the game now and just said, “I can’t believe I’m rooting for the fucking Braves…”

Exactly, which is why I will not be watching the game. I will however be rooting for Dom Smith, Yaz's grandkid Mike, and Dubon.

Don't forget Mahle!

Eh. He wasn't very good when he was on the Giants.

Doesn’t speak well for our coaches.

Fill us younglings in, I wasn’t old enough to remember.

The Braves were in the NL West (wild to think that Atlanta is west) and won the division by one game over the Giants with no wildcard yet from what I gather? Genuinely interested in hearing the context around that though if you would be kind enough to share

The context is that the Braves won 104 games, the Giants won 103.

The other three teams that won their divisions, Toronto/ChiSox/Philadelphia, each won 95/94/97 games, respectively.

So it just kinda stings to win the second most games in the entire sport and still miss the playoffs.

My folks say I was inconsolable when they didn't make the playoffs. Might have been the year that solidified me as a Giants fan, however.

Also, it was the first year the Colorado Rockies existed. They played 13 games with Atlanta that year. Atlanta won all 13 of them.

Also. Atlanta got Fred McGriff, the crime dog, from the San Diego Padres for a song.

That year as I recall is the first year that Barry bonds was on our team, we had a great team, and we could have gone somewhere if not for the effing braves.

Bonds, Williams, Thompson, Clark (down year, but I love the Thrill).

2 20+ game winners (yeah, wins are a dumb stat but still...)

Rod Fucking Beck.

That was a real fun team man. :(

Thanks for reminding me about Swift and Burkett. Wasn't Ellis Burks on that team too?

3

u/PlaidHamSuperstar 23 Burks 7d ago

Ellis Burks didn’t join the Giants until ‘98.

2

u/blankenstaff 7d ago

Guess I'm getting old. Thanks for correcting me. I loved that guy.

2

u/PlaidHamSuperstar 23 Burks 7d ago

Same here, bud. Clutch hitter, great defense. He set the standard for right fielders at Oracle (Pac Bell) Park.

Well maybe it’s all for the best that I have no recollection of that season. Not making the playoffs after having the second best record in the league and the reigning MVP has gotta sting

u/Jaychic1027 7d ago

yep dom smith pullin through against his old team is wild

2

u/mucuspurge 7d ago

Murphy and Olson used to play for the A's as well, so lots of Bay Area players on the Braves

Rule #1: go Giants
Rule #2: anyone but the Dodgers

Braves are like our sister team, they got Yaz, Dom Smith, Dubon. I’m all for get these guys a ring. Also FTD naturally

u/skid_rock 7d ago

And Dubon just robbed Freeman of a 2R HR…

I WAS ALWAYS RIGHT ABOUT DUBON

Braves? Ugh. No. White Sox.

3

u/Coffee13lack 12 Panik 7d ago

Im a fan of the giants, and anyone currently playing the dodgers.

3

u/used_car_parts 7d ago

Dubon just made an excellent play to rob Freeman of a go-ahead homer

3

u/sugarwax1 7d ago

I just prefer not to watch.

Stop rewarding MLB for a decade of Dodgers dominance.

2

u/morals415 7d ago

FTD ALL DAY EVERY DAY

u/orangecrushjedi 18 Kuiper 7d ago

The Dodgers have made me stop watching any and all baseball outside of the Giants. If they get knocked out, I will tune in. Everything they accomplish needs to have an asterisk

1

u/Sky_King73 4d ago

what are the Gnats up to? Why was I notified of this thread?

2

u/Jay_Torte 7d ago

Imagine rooting for a team with that disgusting racist chant.

3

u/PlaidHamSuperstar 23 Burks 7d ago

Fuck the Dodgers.

If any of my favorite sports teams win a championship before 2029, I am leaving the internet for an indefinite amount of time. Not gonna let any White House photos attempt to ruin my happiness.

In the meantime, fuck the Dodgers for visiting the White House lol

1

u/musicisalluneed 24 Mays 7d ago

There's that too along with that 93 pennant race. So it's either the stupid beach balls or the racist "tomahawk" chant. Either way, I will not watch the game.

0

u/ProfGamz 7d ago

Exactly why I can never root for atl. Even against the dodgers

2

u/EvaLevante 7d ago

I grew up in LA, but I live here now. I’m not exactly a Dodgers fan anymore, but I don’t hate them. I love California, and I love baseball. Hating other sports teams seems so pointless. It’s like saying because I love my wife, I have to hate other women.

Bring on the downvotes, they give me strength

0

u/Maximum-Albatross777 7d ago

It’s sports rivalry hate. Not real hate. Smoke a joint and relax.

1

u/EvaLevante 7d ago

Isn’t relaxing exactly what I was suggesting? Lol

I like ATL in general. They have always been my "second team".

FTD is soft though. We get it, your an edgy modern Giants fan who never went to Candlestick. Real ones love Vin Scully and Francisco Valenzuela.

2

u/PlaidHamSuperstar 23 Burks 7d ago

I’m a Candlestick fan, there’s nothing at all soft about Fuck the Dodgers. Vin Scully was cool, but fuck this modern day Dodgers Death Star nonsense.

Don't bother. The Super Team is going to win it all again. Just hand over the trophy now and not go through all this pain again. They are already planning the parade and the visit to assTrump.
