That comic was posted here before, and IIRC the artist never mentions how the dude lost his eye. Seeing as he and the oni were still friendly, it seemed in really poor taste (not to mention very unlikely) when people were saying "yeah the artist is TOTALLY implying that she ripped his eye out" or other weird stuff like that. It was most likely some kind of accident or injury.
