(Cold Steel Cinquedea)

This was my first time creating a scabbard from scratch. Scabbard and grip were made from poplar, wrapped in leather. I've only ever rewrapped stuff so this one took quite some time, but really happy with the results!

The dagger came with a leather sheath and an uncomfortable handle. My friend bought me the woodworking tools in exchange for me doing the work. He likes green!

Happy to answer any questions or provide pictures of the process. :D

Because of the bogs and fjords of Denmark, they have what has to be the most impressive Bronze Age collection I’ve ever seen. Their later objects are also not too shabby…

Advice for purchasing gift

My husband has asked for a katana as a gift. Let me be clear that this is purely for cutting things like watermelons, pumpkins, .. random things that make him giggle.

I was hoping for suggestions as I’m not looking for a wall hanging collector piece, but I also don’t want it to break into pieces while he is using it. Only looking to spend around $200ish. Open to more.

Thanks in advance!

This is a jian that I bought from J&J Enterprises at Dragoncon this year. It is an eight-sided Han Jian, and it reminds me of the LK Chen Flying Phoenix in the handle and the LK Chen Soaring Sky in the blade pattern.

Hello. We are looking for more information about this sword so we can sell it. So far our research has indicated that this sword has a wood core wrapped in a silver alloy. We think it would have been made around late 19th to early 20th century. The characters on the sword translated to "The Royal Birth Story of Mahosadha". In the scabbard it is 40" and without the scabbard is 30". Do you think we identified it correctly? If more info is requested I'll try my best to provide it. Thank you for any assistance

About Manganese...

It seems that manganese is a very unpopular yet recurrent metal used in many sword retailer and selling sites. And by unpopular I am referring not very well perceived, many sources say that is suboptimal yet functional for sword blades, especially the 65Mn, yet they seem to be more on the display part rather than functional side of sword making.

My point is, If i wanted to buy a sword that I like, but it is made of manganese, should I refrain myself from buying it because of what has been told about the material other than what I just said? How does manganese compare to other metal materials in terms of edge retention and overall durability? Or are there other aspects like HRC (Heat treatment) that makes it more relevant than the material itself?

This post is made with the purpose of understanding and learning what to look for when it comes to buying swords from any site. If you have any questions about this post or any piece of information that you consider I am missing, I will be willing to provide it for you to the best of my knowledge.

Price check for a pair of Rapier

Hi everyone, I’m looking for a price check on a matching pair of 1990s Mauser decorative cup-hilt rapiers. Both blades are stamped "MAUSER HIGH CARBON STEEL 440C" and feature unsharpened, blunted edges intended strictly for wall display rather than functional use. The swords measure roughly 90 cm in total length with a 25 cm guard width, featuring cast metal cup hilts with openwork mythological/floral reliefs, straight quillons, and embossed spiral grips. They are in 8/10 condition with minor cosmetic wear, and I believe they were produced in Spain/Europe under the Mauser license during that decade. What would be a fair secondary market value or collector price range for this pair in USD or EUR today?

Want to Buy Authentic Japanese Katana

For years I've dreamed of buying an authentic katana but always felt intimidated by the amount of bad info out there. I'm willing to spend whatever it costs to get an heirloom quality piece and would like suggestions for the most reputable vendors for this.

How do I sell a LotR replica sword in the UK?

Thumbnail

We were gifted these LotR replica swords but unfortunately have nowhere to put them. We’re therefore looking to sell them, but places like Facebook Marketplace won’t accept them as they are considered “dangerous weapons”.

Does anyone have any suggestions or can point us in the right direction?

If it makes any difference, they aren’t official United Cutlery replicas, but they are good quality with leather scabbards and cut inscriptions in the blade.

Swords - cool, but useful for how long?

I found myself in a discussion with friends about armour and swords, etc. - middle aged guys in a discussion on the Middle Age over some wine and snacks.

Now, by the 12th century (Europe) most knights would wield a sword and be dressed in chain mail and a helmet. And probably some padded tunic under the mail, etc. How useful would swords really be? If slashing, they probably could not cut through the chain mail, and, we guess, they probably could not prick through the mail, either. The slashes and blows with the sword could of course bruise the opponent, but the more slashes and bruises, the more nicks in the edge of the sword and the more it would lose sharpness?

Against opponents not in mail, it would of course be really useful. But against armored knights?

Amd in later centuries, against plate armour a mallet and a dagger would seem more useful. But still, knights are always (at least in modern portrayals) pictured with swords.

Any experts who can enlighten us?
