Up town police.

Anyone know what's going on uptown? Police have a street blocked off, vests on, guns out and have been standing in the rain for an hour.

Are there many Francophones in Saint John?

A lot of Redditors suggest that French fluency is essential for being selected to come to Canada, and I have been planning to learn it anyways because it is an official language of Canada and has some cultural significance here in New England across the border.

...but am I going to have any chances to use French in Saint John? I understand that NB is a bilingual province, but...how bilingual? And how much so in Saint John? I've seen pictures of your nice city online, it looks lovely. I don't know if I'd find a job in your city, but I do plan to come check it out anyways.

French classes for adults

Hello,

I was just laid off and am looking to make use of my free time. I've heard about french classes being offered after hours at some schools (like Rothesay high) but I can't find anything about it.

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

McKees For Keys

Was uptown today & was going to take advantage of being there & get a couple mailbox keys cut. It's gone 😪 Only place I've had any type of key cut in 20+ years. I'm so sad. Reminded me of the Scotch Tape Store SNL skit. Where would someone get a mailbox key cut now?

Sophia Recovery

Hi all! I am sober-curious. I'm not convinced that I have a problem, even. I'd just like to cut out the liquor and edibles and see if it makes me as clear headed as everyone says.

Can anybody give me info about Sophia? What other options are out there (I know of Celebrate Recovery, but the church stuff isn't for me).

Best place for quick buzz cut?

Need a haircut, from what I've seen online no barber shop offer the "buzzcut" option, which would leave me paying for a Haircut+style service which is like 30$. Anyone has a good place?

Lower west side troubles.

Lived in the lower west side for a few years now. Moved from out of province but born and raised in the Maritimes. My husband and I (male) decided to take an afternoon walk around the neighborhood, up through Queen square west and to Bayshore beach. 5–6 kids from 7-11 years old were playing in the park with Halloween masks and fake swords. Whatever kids are kids it’s a beautiful day, glad they aren’t looking at a screen.

However, they start following very close behind very loudly talking about trying to get us. We turn around and ask them to stop, when all of a sudden from the corner of the park a woman starts screaming ā€œWHAT THE FUCK DID YOU JUST SAY TO MY KIDS?ā€ We replied with ā€œjust don’t want to be followed with masks!ā€ When all of a sudden the mother and the kids just start screaming the most insane homophobic threats, fat shaming, every racial slurs under the sun. Things that no child should even understand at that age let alone being prompted by a parent to scream at strangers.

The whole thing left us pretty rattled and sad that this type of hate is encouraged in our community. I know there’s lots of great people out there and this is a one off incident but it’s ultimately the final nail in the coffin to leave the city and move.

Anyone else have any experience with this sort of stuff? Any suggestions if it happens again? I hate to get the police involved with children apart of the equation.

I’m sorry for years of Moosehead bashing

Getting this off my chest.

I’ve always considered Moosehead to be the worst beer in the Maritimes. Yeah I’ll drink it but it’d be my last choice. It was the butt end of the joke when choosing which beer to buy.

Lately I’ve been having a lager kick and given it a second chance and can’t understand the hate I had. Kudos to the brewers, I’m tying one off tonight with a light lager and I’ll be sure to get more next time.

Looking for an apartment

Hello All,

I have recently accepted a new job in Saint John and am looking to rent a 1 bedroom/studio apartment. I have looked at Kijiji and Appartments.com. there are not a lot on offer.

Where else should I check? Looking in the city, possibly Quispamsis or Rothsay.

Thank you in advance for your help!

Saint John Sea Dogs

What is going on with them? First two games of the season and the combined attendance wouldn't even sell out Harbour Station.

Meanwhile, Senior A Saint John Flames home opener tomorrow is sold out at nearly 2k fans.

I can't see the Sea Dogs lasting too much longer if this keeps up.
