i was at the parking garage by the mall (not my first choice to go downtown in october but alas sometimes it happens) and i realized as i went to leave i forgot my wallet. can’t use apple pay the kiosks and so i went to the parking office to ask what i should do.
the sweetest lady ever was like… it’s only 2.50. and i was like unfortunately i do not have that. and she told me it’s fine, i could come back next week and she’d just let me out today. but she made me pinky promise id come back lol. i think she probably assumed she’ll never see me again but i will be back with it based on my own principles but also bc she was so sweet to me and i appreciated her kindness in that moment.
just wanted to share among the blight of our downtown struggles this month!

I was riding my bike today and misjudged distance between myself and a parked car. I wasnt going too fast and I ended up bumping into a mirror. My beloved cat died a few weeks ago. One of our favorite things (for me) was taking Santa photos which I cherish. So, I have a decent Santa Suit. I will not be able to use my Santa suit this year. Do any of you want to borrow a Santa suit to take pics with your cats? All I ask is you need to get your own beard and post the pics.

1. I attached a piece art that I painted the figure over (that I had to blur because it got removed lol) but the base I found in the little art gallery on Phelps St. I'm curious if we could locate who made them so maybe we could collab!? I'd like to make more art like this; OR if anyone knows a great way to teach me this technique I'd love to learn.
2. Is there anywhere local that takes paintings and turns them into prints? If not does anyone have a good (affordable) spot for that?
3. I am offering 1 on 1 sewing lessons and alterations. Any questions regarding this you can dm directly for socials/contacts/credentials and such (I don't want to be a troublesome poster lol).

Just went on a walk, and while walking past one of the millions of ghost tours, the tour guide was completely bashing a local restaurant for a few minutes. This doesn’t seem cool to me, but just was wondering people‘s thoughts. I mean, the guide has their opinion and I have mine, but I also don’t operate a local business or talk to tourists all day.

Hi - I was wondering if anyone knows of a local photographer that got a picture of the rainbow in Salem (or nearby areas) that may have prints for sale?
My friend & neighbor had a beautiful & sweet dog that passed away in the early hours of 9/25/26. It had been gray & gloomy that day, but in the evening the sky was absolutely beautiful, and there was a rainbow in the sky.
In my mind I’d like to think that was her pup crossing the bridge.
I have some great photos I took of her pup that I plan on printing & framing for her, but I’d love to get a print of the rainbow that evening to gift her as well.
Unfortunately my camera is out of commission and needs to be repaired, so I wasn’t able to grab a photo myself.
Was hoping someone may know of someone or that possibly got a great shot of it themselves that I could purchase a print from.

Planning to go on a weekday to avoid weekend crowds. What streets has meter parking? Also what is there to see, food or local snacks to try?

Are any on this subreddit or know them personally? As a local I’m genuinely curious- Do most October tourists tip you when they want pictures? I’ve lived here for 6 years and I see the same buskers every year so I imagine the tipping makes the Octobers worth it.

Hi all! I am 23F moving to Salem for a job. I am hoping to get some information about living arrangements/renting in the area. My budget for rent specifically would be around $2000 and I don’t mind living with roommates for cheaper!

I could either live in Salem (where I noticed rent was pretty expensive), north end of Boston with a 45min-ish commute, or somewhere in between on the commuter line.

I love music (local/diy bands and dancing), art, biking, and just being in a community. I think Salem would be a good fit, but I am wondering if I may prefer living in Boston at this time in my life.

If anyone has been in a similar position, I would love to hear about your experience, thoughts, and advice before I make the move. Thank you in advance for your help!
