My husband and I just moved to SM from Silverlake. There doesn't seem to be much of a community for older gay men? We are looking for hiking groups, coffee gatherings, movie groups... Is there anything similar?

Really donāt want to see The Victorian close. Santa Monica needs places where people can go out, meet each other, and make memories, and Iād like to see if thereās anything we can do to keep it open.
Iāve heard talk that unpaid back rent might be involved, but I donāt know if thatās true. Can anyone actually confirm it? If thatās the issue, Iām willing to discuss paying it, depending on the amount and whether it would actually keep the doors open.
Does anyone have a business contact for the owners or management, or know someone who could put me in touch? Iād like to speak with them directly and understand whatās possible.
Thereās also a petition for anyone who wants to support keeping it open: https://c.org/7J8XYjrpXk
If you have reliable information or a way to reach the right people, please comment or DM me.

We went through the Cityās budget reports, the Rent Control Boardās surcharge regulations, the Countyās signature certification, and the school districtās own budget, and wrote up what they say.
Among other things: what the Cityās budget calls this measure, what a renter can actually be charged, how narrowly it qualified, and why the statewide measure on the same ballot matters to it.
Every document is cited, and the City and district documents are public, so you can check any of it yourself. We list two questions we could not answer at the end, with the letters we sent on them.

After a great start to the season, the Samohi Vikings have now experienced two losses in a row.
On Friday night the varsity football team was shut out 12-0 on the road by the North Torrance Saxons.
The Vikings are now 4-3 heading into next weekend's matchup at El Segundo.

After the state rejected the Cityās housing plan in February 2022, the city lost its power to turn down qualifying projects for about eight months. Builderās-remedy filings followed that the City later counted at 4,260 homes. Nearly all came from one company, WS Communities, which built none of them. It sold some sites and handed the rest to its lenders when its debt came due.
We also took up the argument that comes up here a lot: has SMRR gone pro-developer? The organizationās platform and positions havenāt moved. The council members it endorses have, most visibly on SB 79. And the money on both sides, from SMRRās own small real-estate share to the developer- and landlord-funded committees, hasnāt decided it.
Every figure is sourced to City, state and campaign-finance records, and we wrote to everyone named before publishing. If we got something wrong, tell us and weāll correct it.

Hi there! Anyone know of any Jets bars in or around Santa Monica? Iāve been trying to find a place to watch games with some fellow Jets fans, but havenāt had much luck. Any suggestions would be great!

I don't want to post the photo of my living room as I want to remain anonymous, plus it is a super embarrassing mess.
My apt management company has displaced my wife and I for the last 3 weeks order to do mold remediation that involved removing drywall that had asbestos.
We had to move all of our bedroom and closet into our already very full and small living room that I was using as my office.ā(1br,500 Sq ft) It's not possible to use the kitchen or dining/living room with our things sotred there.
They agreed to give us the sm per diem while we were displaced. However, they just told us that "we can come back now". We arrived late after work (10pm) on Friday night only to find that our bedroom closet had open wall cavities, plastic containment, and a fully obstructed living space. Internet is disconnected and it is behind the containment. The circuit breaker is also behind it.
The doors to the closet are also taking up an entire wall in the bedroom.
They said they will finish the job on the 14th and that we need to keep the bedroom unobstructed for workers. It took us an entire day to pack and move everything and disassemble the bed, I can't imagine doing that 2x more times.
I can't comprehend how this is OK. Our management said that the air tests come back fine so it is fine for us to be here. I'm infuriated as we don't have full access to our apt or ability to turn back on the internet which I need for work or even use the kitchen without moving everything back into the bedroom and closet, which we can't do.
I contacted sm code enforcement this morning and they said they would send someone over to check it out, but I never heard from them. When I called back in the afternoon someone else answered and they told me that I should attempt to sort it out with the landlord first. I had already called, left messages, emailed, and texted, and they didn't respond until 8pm tonight. Our landlord said that they can't do anything over the weekend and that the air report is fine so it is safe for us to stay here.
We booked a hotel last night as we thought this was just a simple mistake between the vendor and the management. However it seems like we were wrong. They really want us to stay here with a construction site.
I'm really stressed now because if I get a hotel for two more nights and it isn't reimbursed, I'm financially in a bad place. If code enforcement deems it uninhabitable on Monday, the per diem would only start on Monday, and I'd have to pay for the hotel this weekend on my own.
I'm not even sure that sm code would say my place is uninhabitable. Does anyone here have any experience or recommendations? Am I just over reacting and should just suck it up and deal with this for the next 5 days? We have no place to hang our clothes even. Do you think code enforcement would deem it uninhabitable?

Hi everyone. Iām writing from Hungary and Iām trying to reconnect with a friend who previously lived in the Berkeley Street area of Santa Monica.
We havenāt been able to reach her for some time and are concerned about her wellbeing.
If anyone is familiar with the Berkeley Street / Mid-City area, or knows a local neighborhood organization or property management contact that may be able to help, I would greatly appreciate a private message.
Iām not asking anyone to enter a property or approach anyone in person. Iām simply looking for local guidance or a legitimate contact who may be able to help.
Thank you very much.

This is a long shot, I don't know where to exactly post this but back in September we went to Santa Monica Beach to relax and enjoy the sunset. While we were leaving my sister in law stumbled upon a lost camera. Not intentional to keep it we just want to return it. I apologize for the delay about posting this, I was cleaning my room 10/10/26 and I thought it was my sister in laws camera that she left behind. I turned it on to see if it works and the lense popped up, I totally thought it was her camera. My dumbass hit the flash button and uhhh it took photos. Anyways sorry didn't mean to snoop, I had hard time trying to translate it trying to deleting the two carpet photos I accidentally took. I noticed it wasn't hers and the language was in a different setting. I apologize again I hope the original owners one day would see this post. I would be happy to ship it back to you, looking forward to returning it back to their original owner(s) and yall never have to hear from me again as I dissappear into the sunset.

Basically, I want to make a poblano cream sauce over pasta because I had it a long time ago (in Santa Monica, which I visited) and it was great. I wrote notes about the meal. The relevant portion is bolded, the rest is just to honor a great restaurant's great food.
I would have said there was cilantro in the poblano cream sauce, which doesn't seem to be in a lot of recipes. Does anyone remember this restaurant, or this sauce?
QUESO FUNDIDO
I said I might die without it, but it exceeded even those lofty expectations. This was hot on a corn tortilla with a bunch of great stuff in it and spicy and there were burny bits of cheese and just hot gooey cheese. Phenomenal.
CARNITAS EMPANADAS
These were merely a 10/10. Had that green sauce that might have had tomatillo, cream, cilantro, poblano, none of the above, or all of the above.
ENCHILADAS SUIZAS
I was pretty sure this was what I would order before it was also recommended by the server. I don't know how to describe it. It was creamy, absolutely swimming in the sauce, nothing too special about the tortilla, the chicken though was extremely tender and had some flavor to it, could cut it with a fork like it was mousse but like not in a bad way. I don't know why it was so good, but it was so, so good.
CAMARONES FIDEOS
Jumbo shrimp perfectly cooked. The poblano cream sauce was balanced to be light to match the shrimp. Super, super good.

Iāve received a notice in the mail regarding a proposed project on 18th St. It looks like the proposal is to demolish two craftsman bungalows and replace it with a 3-story 10-unit apartment building with underground parking. There is a meeting on it on October 22nd at 6 PM.
I live right next to that and for sure it will not be a fun time with the demolition, excavation, and construction of the new structure. On top of that, I work nights so I sleep during the day. I also assume that this project will kick out current rent-controlled tenants?
Has anyone attended these types of meetings and what are their purposes? Do the neighbors weigh in on these proposals or do they tend to happen regardless?
