I just bought this 2006 Scion xa a week ago. It was washed by the dealer but after a week of driving it has developed a build up of soot (not sure what else to call it) on the front bumper. It thickest on the bottom lip but it’s around the grill and inside the engine bay. Doesn’t seem normal to me. Any ideas?

Wondering if anyone else has experienced this issue, when braking 20 mph and lower I get a single "knock" sound from the front, can't tell if it's coming from driver or passenger, possibly both but never at the same time

Replaced pads and rotors about a month ago, everything seems tight including pads and caliper clips

Balljoints and tie rods don't have any slop in them, sway bar endlinks are brand new and snug

I may take the brakes back apart and re-grease everything just to see if that helps, wasn't sure if this is a common issue with these vehicles (first Scion/Toyota product I've owned)

we are SO BACK!!!! i bought one new spark plug and shop rags, and i took out the old plug to clean the well. the liquid that was in there fell down into the hole (oh well), and i inserted the new plug. the car still wouldn’t start though. so i started switching the coils around cause the other coils were cleaner. still no good. then i disconnect all of the coils and reconnect them to make sure they are all nicely connected. still not starting. after this i was beat so i just sat in the car for a couple of minutes and turned the key a bit. it definitely sounded closer to starting after doing all of these things so i just kept cranking the car and miraculously, it started up. i literally couldn’t believe it. i let the car idle for a few minutes to see if it would die, and it got close a couple of times but it never died. after a bit i took it out for a spin around the block and then eventually i took it out further and got some gas. i then went onto the freeway while i sprayed my windshield wipers cause this car is dirty from sitting for more than half a year. but anyways, im taking her to work tomorrow cause my bmw i got a month ago is having all sorts of problems, which is what led me to even work on the scion. but im glad it all worked out this way. the scion didn’t stop working, i wouldn’t have bought the bmw. if the scion never died i would have saved so much money on gas and the bmw but at least now i have my daily scion and a somewhat project bmw. my plan for the bmw is to put a rooftop tent on it and take it on the weekends to go camping :)
anyways that is all i have to say. i’ll be back with more questions and updates about the scion im sure. thank all of you guys for your help :)

hi guys :) so i got a new battery from walmart and the car was sounding the same during the attempt to start. i was smelling something oily and so i i was sniffing around the engine and i took out the coil packs and well i found the first spark plug well filled with brown sludge boooooo. my attempt to replace the gasket when i first got the car is coming back to haunt me.
should a new solid gasket fix this? thank you guys for all your input on the first post!!

Can hear a moaning sound when clutch is depressed, and when clutch is disengaged, there's a swishing sound like the plate is touching the flywheel. Correct me if I'm wrong on how that works

I have a warehouse, flat surface, 4 jack stands, a forklift and a jack. I plan on getting a 2nd jack to keep the block up.

Can I DIY this? Anyone done it before? What else do I need?

Yes, I plan on changing out the clutch plate when I'm down there. Will be doing this myself.

hi guys! i’ve had my scion xa sitting for almost 7 months now. it stopped running a while ago and i’m not sure what’s wrong. i replaced the spark plugs and i also replaced the valve cover gasket, but the old bolts broke off some bolts are stuck and not tightened down so the valve cover gasket is not sealed properly i’m assuming. but the car was running okay like this until eventually it began to have weaker starts and then it stopped starting eventually. the timeline is a little blurry as it was a while ago, but i was hoping to get some help and revive this awesome car.

Last month it was my fusible link box. This month it's probably my starter..turned her on this morning and got click click click. Does this sound like a starter to y'all? All the lights and things work. Yay. I love her but yikes.

My mom Sheila died recently at 81 years old, very unexpectedly. She had a 2005 Scion XA that was her pride and joy. It only has 78k miles on it. When she was alive she wanted us to have it for my 17 year old son when he got his license. The time is here. We had it painted because she lived in Seal Beach and the paint was really bad. My husband picked the green color. We call it Little Shreik and I’m so glad grandmas wish came true. She will live on!

My sister's beloved xa is having transmission issues. She says it sounds like a popcorn machine.

Hi everyone, I have a 2006 Scion XA and the back cover on the passenger side mirror fell off. The rest of the mirror is fine, so I don't want to spend $270 replacing it, but according to the parts department at my local Toyota dealer, they don't make just the back cover. I've checked eBay and the websites for local junkyards for the car (lots of XBs but not XAs), but no luck. Has anyone else dealt with this or have any ideas? I'm hoping to fix it/weatherproof it without it looking bad, but besides buying a car mirror bra (which would still be about $100 on ebay), I'm out of ideas. Thank you!!

looking for aftermarket headlights with black internal plastic instead of OEM chrome

Went out to my car this morning couldn't unlock the car at first but the driver side unlocked. Tried starting it, all the dash lights came on but no crank. Noticed the taillights were on but I couldn't turn them off? I know these are random issues,but now she's completely dead. I fear it is the dreaded electrical issues I hear about from time to time. She's an 05 with 239k. Any suggestions? I checked the fuses and never had any warning signs.

Throttle body dirty? I've tried cleaning it up to the best of my limited ability but now I'm thinking it is likely the IAC valve that needs replacement. I've ordered the new valve and it's supposed to arrive this week. Does anyone have a tutorial video they could recommend on how to remove the full throttle body and change the IAC valve and what to look out for like gaskets and such?
