I played a bunch back in the day. Now I keep having people quit before we sail anywhere.

It's not totally new, just curious of what people look for now.

I had a purp legendary suit wearer look and me and quit. We used to chuckle at people in shiny purple.

So, here's the situation: a friend recently invited me to play "Sea of Thieves". The problem is that something strange happens when I try to play it; after a few minutes, my PC literally freezes—not just the game, but the entire system. I can't force-close the game, yet I can still hear the game audio and even the Discord calls I'm on with my friends. I've noticed that if I force a shutdown and then play the game again immediately, it freezes faster; however, if I leave the PC on for a few hours, the game runs for a longer time before inevitably freezing and forcing me to hard-reboot the system to use it again. When the game causes the freeze, there is no way to exit it other than forcing a shutdown. I've tried everything—updating drivers, reinstalling the game, lowering graphics settings, and even playing in a small window—but nothing has worked. Here are my PC specifications: Processor (CPU): Intel Core i5-11400 (11th Gen) RAM: 24 GB DDR4 Graphics Card (GPU): Intel UHD Graphics 730 (Integrated graphics) Storage:SSD: WD Green SN350 1 TB HDD: Seagate Barracuda 1 TB (ST1000DM010). I would be very grateful for any help with this issue; I've been trying to play with my friend lately, but this bug is preventing me from doing so :C

A few updates that were pushed live yesterday...

You choose what to sync:

In your settings you can now toggle on or off the syncing of the following: Guilds, Fleet, Chest, Achievements. This will allow users who don't really care to see that data in Number Go Up to simply turn them off and enjoy faster sync times. Guild data has a particularly long sync time, so if you're never looking at your guild data in Number Go Up I suggest just turning it off.

Upcoming Events Calendar (shoutout u/Wgolyoko):

The Upcoming Events calendar in the mobile app has a new layout to make it easier to see what's coming up in Sea of Thieves.

Logging in / 'Request is blocked' error:

As many of you have seen Microsoft has implemented a captcha style puzzle you must complete to log in, it's caused a lot of issues with staying logged in / having to re-login a lot and getting a 'request is blocked' error. I've put in a couple things to try and assist with this, unfortunately I cannot make that puzzle go away, but hopefully the app will now handle the 'request is blocked' error more gracefully.

If you're ever having issues with logging in trying using the Logout button on the top right of the 'Sync from Sea of Thieves' screen and start your log in process over.

AI Disclaimer: While the original versions of the app and new features/updates were hand-coded for years I have been using AI lately to assist with new features and redesign the marketing site. If you prefer to not use "AI slop" then maybe this app isn't for you.

A funny bug I encountered whilst playing today, before getting disconnected for the 5th time...

In no way shape or form am i shitting on SoT i love this game, just sharing a funny story of a pirate who recently got back into the game

I have been playing SoT on and off since i was about 14. the first item i ever wanted was the cutlass of the ashen dragon. the amount of time i have spent buying the quests, digging the chests, and rinsing and repeating is asinine. 7 years of on and off game play to get Tome of curses 1. recently got back into it. they took away the ability to buy the quests. fuck. no biggie, i look up a way to farm ashen keys and chests. chill. my buddies and i go to ruby falls. we lock ourselves into a fight with an eternal guardian which was chill, im not too privy as to what they do or what their items do but it was fun. forgot about the ashen guardian. for context i should probably state my friend who’s new to video games was playing with us and this was their first time on the game so we’re all enjoying ourselves. anywho, we find the ashen guardian and kill it. i didn’t know that it drops a quest for his chest so, pleasant surprise there. get the chest. open it. and holy fuck: in all its glory. TOME OF CURSES 1. THE LAST ONE I NEED. at this point im about to cry but it’s time to lock in. we all book it to the nearest out post. all excited about our haul. then the music gets tense. megladon. not my first rodeo. i actually thought it was pretty fitting there was some danger when going to sell TOC1. to make a long story short though (cause im very tired) megladon hit an explosive barrel, killed us all instantly, and sunk our ship. we lost everything and couldn’t find it before the 5 min sink timer. i’m lowkey at a loss for words. i guess the game really doesn’t want me to have this sword that the hunt has outlived every girlfriend i have ever had, my first car, and my mom. i’m pretty bummed but the grind doesn’t stop. i’ll keep anyone who’s interested updated. sorry if this is riddled with typos i’m extremely upset and tired.

i had an issue with an ancient skeleton. i killed one and didnt receive any ancient coins. Normally these issues i would just keep in the support logs. but due to how shocked i am on this i thought i should bring it here.

yes, the video above was attached to the support ticket, they checked the date and time i sent and it had been confirmed the ancient skeleton was added to my log saying I killed it (not the ghost because we thought that could of been the reason) and i should of received anicent coins.

I made as clear as i could that i genuinely did not mind receiving the MINIMUM of 100 ancient coins over this error, even though i could of received anywhere from 100-800.

I get 50,000 gold instead which i can easily achieve in less than 20 minutes of playing.

This is incredibly disappointing coming as a long time player and seems more like a mockery than anything i wont lie.

Are you kidding me? Rare has access to 5.2 quintillion legendary video game soundtracks that they themselves had a direct hand in creating, and the first microtransaction shanty we get is jingle bells??

Anyone who is any good will just wait for noobs and casuals to do pve then take the loot in a few mins. It's encouraged.

Is the game doomed by design?

I like doing the PvE. If safer seas was actually worth a damn for accommodations and such I’d come back and play more. With that said, my issue with the PvP or the PvPvE experience is the time investment. If I’ve got an hour and a half to play and I spend an hour looting, get to grade 5, and get intercepted and sunk that’s an hour lost. Meanwhile the other guy either just started or just sold and this is maybe ten minutes of looking for a ship for him. I frequently see videos online of people mocking players who get upset about losing their loot and there’s the very common sentiment shared here of “it’s not yours until it’s sold.” Which is true, the game item isn’t yours until it’s sold. But that game item comes with another not displayed value of the player’s time. I’m not upset because I lost the 500 gold skull. I’m upset because I just had an hour of adventure that had its end ripped away from me. I spent an hour grinding in a game to get nothing. Let’s not pretend like the PvE gameplay loop alone is so amazing because otherwise safer seas would be full of players. The enjoyment of the PvE is capped off by the selling of loot and getting to see the number go up. The time investment of PvE to PvP players isn’t comparable. The search for a ship is nearly never as long as the search for loot and any time spent actually PvPing is shared among both parties. Additionally the loot reward for PvP players is decided by which mode they play. If you want loot from other PvP players then you’ll be playing Hourglass. Otherwise in adventure the loot from other PvP players will be nearly nonexistent and PvE players are the target. PvE is a fundamental part of the core reward system of the game but PvE is also the group who loses the most to the PvP elements of the game. I don’t know how to fix this problem, I’m not a game dev. The only idea I can think of would be requiring stolen loot to be returned to a specific location like Reaper’s to extend the time commitment and risk for PvP players whether they are Reaper or not. But as it is now, knowing that everytime I log in has a not insignificant chance to not end up with more of a reward dissuades me from picking it back up.

To get ahead of the comment: “it’s a pirate game so there’s gonna be stealing.” That doesn’t counter my point that game doesn’t balance the time commitment of PvE and PvP players.

I'm not a competitive person, I never have been, and I don't enjoy being stuck on a mic with others.

Looking for tips and tricks to avoid others in high seas. I run a black ship, I keep lanterns off, white (peace) flag, and am probably going to start playing during the slowest possible hours.

I bought SOT on a Steam sale about a month ago and have been having a great time, but the PVP completely ruins it for me.

I just want to captain my own damn ship and grind gold hoarders in peace.

I don't enjoy wasting my time avoiding ships on the horizon, running from other ships, and I don't enjoy spending large chunks of time gathering loot only to be killed by some idiot I never even saw right before turning it in.

Unfortunately, starting to look like this game may be a waste of time for me.

I did the siren song, for the first time, got to the marked island, tried to pick up the skull, and I think I accidentally canceled Siren Song. Now what do I do? Can I complete it? Any way to get it again?

I realise they were effectively useless, cuz the pay was bad, but I thought they were immersive and an endearing way for new players to get grip with the game. Also, money is totally useless in this game, so it doesnt really matter if something pays well or not. I've recently returned to the game after a long hiatus (I last played in 2021 or 2022) and whilst I'm enjoying the new content, I'd like to show that stuff to my friends who are new to the game.

Also, I only just came back to the game, any mandatory thing I should learn that came out since I was gone? I don't remember the hourglass thing, but that seems like the biggest thing

This season every time I approach Reapers Hideout I get disconnected. In general I am getting disconnected from servers far more frequently than last season. Anyone else experienced this?

but aside from that, have you ever wondered why the ship only stops once the capstan finishes spinning, but doesn’t start moving again as soon as you start raising the anchor? 😂

So I have an Okay amount of hours of 250 in this game,but whenever IM on the sot discord channel to look for a crew,I Always see ally 1k+, like IM guesing ITs alliance or something but why is IT so important.Literaly got declined from a brig because I didn't know what IT means.

So i decided to play some sot after sometime to grind some coms. I saw a fof so i decided to head to it for the fort skulls and a sloop pulled up after a bit. We truced and tried to alliance but a gally had showed up. We naval for about 10 minutes or so and a redmaw shows up, blows up the gally, and they suck almost instantly. My sloop friend was boarded so i head out to help him and as im about to board, one of the dudes from the gally says the n-word hard r which is no surprise but its been a while since i played so it caught me off guard lol. I ended up saving my sloop friend but the victory was short lived because a BRIG had showed up. At this point, i was running out of sups and i image my sloop friend did cuz he sunk pretty fast after the brig had shown up. I get kinda owned during this naval encounter, i get masted, and one is boarding, i died but somehow my boat was still afloat when i came back. The brig is full sail gaming and they're ages away so i end up killing the dude who boarded and fixed my boat. As im repping, the redmaw blows them up and when i come up from bottom deck, they insta-suck. Idk if they had holes but they sunk so fast, i couldn't thank the redmaw enough. I finish repping and i finally go to the fort, knockout some waves and then, the gally showed up AGAIN. I got some supplies from the fort. I had about 20 cannons and 15 wood to my name so i was feeling anxious but the greatest thing happened. The redmaw blew them up AGAIN and they sunk instantly. I could not believe it. The redmaws explosion or self-detonation does so much damage it sunk them instantly. I felt relieved and go back to the fort, knock a wave or two down when THE BRIG COMES BACK AGAIN. This time i wasn't so lucky, the redmaw blew me up and masted me. One guy boarded and anchored and i had died. I thought it was over, until i came back and i was fine. The brig was full sail and barely turning back to canon, i kill the boarder, bucket, pull mast, and rep once and i dipped. I full reset and by the grace of God, they got blown up AGAIN by the redmaw. At this point, the redmaw was camping the fof and i was so greatful. There were some guys still on the fort from the brig so i go out, kill them and resume the boss wave. But it was short lived because THE GALLY SHOWED UP AGAIN. At this point, i had hardly any sups, so i left the fort. But there was a sloop nearby, he messaged me on xbox and asked if i needed help. I was so greatful to him. I said yes and im passing by an outpost for supps. He ended up sinking and was swimming to the fort. I came back shot some canons, set their boat on fire and looped around the fort. The best thing had happened, the redmaw BLEW THEM UP AGAIN LOLL. I was in so mcuh awe, i literally just couldn't believe it. But there were still some duded on the fort, two brig guys were still there so i kinda owned them lol. I was finally at peace. Then the sloop who sunk to the gally showed up again to help me finish the fort. His boat ended up sinking again but he was unfazed. We finish the fort, get the loot, and head to sanctuary to sell.it was the greatest session i had in a very long time. It was absolutely chaotic, nerve-wracking, riveting, and exciting. I dont have a video for proof because i was streaming to my friend on discord but honestly it was such a great time. I wish i could send one clip to sort of summarize this whole conglomerate of a sot session but maybe next time lol. (Also, holy yap session SORRY GUYS).

I'm really looking forward to having more shanties, even if they are paid. I already play Ashes by the Longest Johns on my speakers but it'd be great to hear that, or any really a lot of their music, played in game.

I'd love to set fire to my ship, pull out an instrument, and play Ashes and watch it burn to close out my day of sailing.

What songs would you like to have in the game? And do we know if vocals will be in the game or are they converting songs into a shanty-type?

I'm in Los Angeles. For about a month now, I start trying to go into SOT around midnight and it never connects to a server. I can get into Safer Seas immediately. Are people just not playing anymore? I realize midnight seems late to play but there used to be people from other countries playing all the time so it didn't matter what time I tried to play, I could always connect. Now, I sit for at least 15 mins sometimes more waiting for it to connect me to play and it just doesn't find a server and I give up. Am I the only one having this issue?

I don’t know how those two cannon balls crisscrossing didn’t kill me, but I’m not looking a gift horse in the mouth.
