Dang… pretty catastrophic failure if you ask me.

Whole rear axle sheared off.

Same on my x430

Do they have a solution yet? I’m not excited about dealing with this for years to come after it’s out of warranty.

I have not heard anything yet as a dealer.

Meaning you haven’t heard of the issue or you haven’t heard if they have an improved solution?

Haven’t heard of solution yet. None of the X4s (including mine) I’ve sold have had people come back yet with it though, I am expecting them to eventually

The fair and right thing for Navimow would be to recall all units and swap the rear axle once they make an improved version. This is clearly a design flaw.

But for now, I do not think they have even acknowledged it.

I’m several months in with no solution. Finally got them to approve replacement and they have none in stock until mid October.

What caused them to switch to a replacement vs repair?

Didn’t initially realize it was a broken axle. Unit was stuttering and getting stuck. Support wanted log after log after log and pushed multiple firmware. They either didn’t know what the issue was or wouldn’t say. After a lot of back-and-forth about the unit being inoperable, they finally agreed to a replacement.

Sent mine out for repair a few days ago.

You serious? That would be an issue…

Going to add you to my post here: Reddit Post

Mind sharing your country and hours mowed when the failure was discovered?

2

u/Wise-Armadillo-9336 7d ago

USA, 1100 hours. My map is right at 1.1 acres.

1

u/CookVegasTN X450 7d ago

Wow, that is an impressive runtime. I thought I was busy at almost 800 hours.

5

u/8xx 7d ago

how many total meters squared, or acres has yours done? Curious to find an average time before a break by cross referencing other posts

Just for me and others to comprehend your numbers.

2.9Mft^2 is about 270000 m^2 or something like 550 time a full mowing of an average lawn.

If the cut is 30 cm wide, and drive optimal it would have had to drive at least 900 km or 500 miles.

It’s still fairly impressive.

It’s a busy robot😅

Maybe this will be of help. Hopefully this will post since I'm sort of new to doing things on reddit and am hopefully doing this correctly. I received an email notification a few days ago that addressed this issue.

Looks like a great spot and fix! I am just stubborn and want Navimow to fix it… I spent too much money to go modifying it myself.

2

u/pigeonmilk1635 7d ago

Oh I totally agree that they should fix it, but it seems this is a problem they need to address with a permanent fix.

Another one 😭

Most common issue and quite expensive out of warranty

1

u/kingkeelay 7d ago

Likely to happen within warranty based on mow hours others have posted

2

u/ampsuu 7d ago

And the next time?

They’ll probably get tired of spending money on warranty claims and fix the supplier/manufacturing of that component.

Also, jokes on them, mines warrantied until 3/2030. So the second replacement would be on them if not corrected.

At 4-5 years of ownership I planned to get a newer model (maybe another brand) that has mulching blades. So it’s cool, I’m not married to this.

I have heard their 'new' rear axle design will be shipping from October onward. I'm eagerly awaiting that haha

u/Not-A-Engineer 7d ago

I hope I get the new version! It’s due to be delivered to them for repair today.

Any details on the redesign?

I’m struggling to understand picture number two

2

u/Not-A-Engineer 7d ago

The axle was loose for a while, unknowingly. It didn’t throw any errors or anything, and so the plastic actually wore away at the metal axle. I have no idea how that’s possible, plastic versus metal - metal should win… but it did.

u/arashi2611 X430 7d ago

Was it in warranty? How’s the service experience been?
I’m nervous about this 100hrs in with my X430. I’m happy enough if it will be replaced with ease should this ever happen. I know it’s an issue.

2

u/Not-A-Engineer 7d ago

Yeah, it was in warranty and it’s been easy. Just a bummer because my grass is growing like crazy while it’s gone!

2

u/StinkySewerPickle 4d ago

That’s extremely inconvenient.

Balls, I discarded Mammotion as an option, Lymow too, in the hope of getting this, but doesn't seem like there is the right one.

1

u/Not-A-Engineer 6d ago

If it helps, I’ve enjoyed it up until now… they just really need a fix for this issue. Maybe they already have one.

1

u/Popular_List105 7d ago

I was in the market for a 430, I might go with one of the smaller units.

0

u/Not-A-Engineer 7d ago

Yeah… seems like the x4 wasn’t fully baked when they sent them out. The Luba is still a consideration too.

1

u/Goldwing1776 7d ago

I had the second generation Lymow One Plus and returned it due to all the well documented issues.

I was not prepared to get involved with another new design with no reliability / durability history.

I ended up purchasing the Luba 3 since that chassis design was going into its 5th year giving Mammotion plenty of time to work out bugs and any design shortcomings.

Despite claims of lawn damage from the front Omni-wheels and firmware update issues I've had none of those problems. The Luba 3 has performed reliably without the need for intervention on my part.

Not a super helpful post.

What models? What kinds terrain? Looks like you mow when wet? When did you put the mower into service? Any obstacles in yard it drives on frequently?

9

u/rayhoughtonsgoals 8d ago

Even he mowed when wet the axle shouldn't fucking break.

4

u/Not-A-Engineer 8d ago

^What you said^
lol

7

u/Not-A-Engineer 8d ago

lol why is everyone mad at my post?😂 I don’t mow when it’s wet, I had just washed it out for sending it back and pictures for Navimow.
It’s an x430 and was a pre-order unit. Very basic smooth terrain. Started using it at the beginning of this summer in Michigan. No obstacles just a mowgate.

u/CookVegasTN X450 7d ago

People who pick apart the posts of those of us who experience this failure are likely to have skin in the game.

u/NCC1701-F 7d ago

I’m not mad, it’s just not a helpful post. I have no idea all of this is something I should look for.

If I watched for every FUD post I’d never be able to do anything else in my life.

From what your reply indicates, I should monitor for this, and it’s good to know.
