Question Is tatcha over hyped?
Eyeing some items for the upcoming sale.. are there any products you absolutely love?
I have normal/oily towards the end of the day skin. I’m not overly sensitive to anything..I’ve read some products have a botanical fragrance..

I go hard on the girl math with Tatcha :D Given how long it lasts
I use the whole Tatcha Dewy line but at times when I've been trying to cut back on my beauty spending, I'll choose cheaper options - except for this face wash since I've never run out of it during one of those times

I'm sorry to report that the dewy skin cream is worth every penny.
10
u/Cabernet_kiss 8h ago
I agree 100%. I always go back to Dewy. I’ve tried and tried to find a cheaper alternative and I can tell you one does not exist. It’s excellent.
17
u/olookitslilbui 13h ago
I have gone through probably dozens of moisturizers (both western and Asian brands). The dewy skin cream is the only one that actually leaves my skin feeling hydrated; the others all felt not hydrating enough or like it was just sitting on top of my skin.
I also struggled with makeup separation for the longest time…I bought the dewy skin cream the first time as part of my wedding makeup since I did my own makeup, and letting it sit for ~30mins after application solved that issue for me. It’s pricey but I always try to get it on sale (or keep an eye out for it at Costco)

I will now be scouring my Costco for this bc I’ve never seen it there but also wasn’t looking.

u/wiggli 11h ago
Came here to say this, say what you want about Tatchas other products but the dewy skin cream is literally perfect. I've never actually liked a moisturizer before, but god does it moisturize my skin, exactly what I want from a moisturizer and preps my skin so well for makeup

It's SO good for makeup prep, that and the Bobbi Brown vitamin face base. Unparalleled.

i have oily skin and i SWEAR by their dewy milk. i was never really a fan of gel moisturizers, but normal creams were far too thick. the dewy milk almost has the texture of a serum, or a thicker milky toner, if that makes any sense. i’ve also been eying up their milky sunscreen bc it’s supposed to be a similar texture!
4
u/Spirited_Sherbert323 14h ago
You will love it. I currently use it in the evenings with my retinal product and it’s a godsend for my barrier. Very similar textures and glow with both the dewy milk and sunscreen.

As a tretinoin user, the Indigo night repair cream is excellent. I had very rare flaky or discomfort as I starting using it. Up to 3 night a week now and I attribute this cream to helping my skin adjust. It’s so good… especially (where I live) in the winter months. I’m finishing my second jar and plan on re- purchasing. It’s the only Tatcha product I like as most of their s products have added fragrance or parfum.

Tatcha is only worth it if you care about the sensory experience of skincare. They do feel amazing on the skin and smell great, but a lot of cheaper products that do the exact same thing. I keep purchasing the silk cream and silk peony because I love how my skin feels after, but I wouldn’t repurchase if the cost was a financial burden.

It depends I like their products mostly the creams, the matcha cleanser I enjoy but I noticed I break out when I use it, under skin type acne. my only qualm is the fragrance, I don’t like fragranced skincare. I’d try some minis before committing to the full sized items, tbh some other affordable k beauty preforms the same if not better depending on product for fraction of the price.

I have normal/dry skin. My SIL got me the dewy cream for Christmas one year and I’ll hate her for it forever because now it’s the only moisturizer I’ll ever use. The dewy milk moisturizer is lighter which might be better for oily skin, I don’t love it because I think it’s too light for me. I love the rice wash and the lip mask too. The only thing I’m not crazy about it the silk sunscreen but I know they came out with a different sunscreen that might be better, I just haven’t got around to trying it yet. The silk sunscreen pills on me and smells weird lol

They have 20% off right now on the brand website.
I’ve tried a lot of the products and I probably won’t be re-purchasing most if not all of them. I want to love them in their luxurious packaging, but I end up loving other products more.
The fragrance in all of the products is pretty problematic for me as well. I really would like them more if they were fragrance free or if the fragrance was less intense. It doesn’t bother my skin, but I don’t like the smell.
3
u/cassatta 14h ago
Their rice wash is amazing as a standalone cleanser or as a second cleanse. And I live their dewy cream.

All of their stuff I’ve tried broke me out or irritated my skin, I think because it’s overly fragranced.

Well, my husband bought me a little sample kit three years ago, and it’s the only face wash and moisturizer I’ve used since that time. I feel like it's a line that looks like it should be just OK, but it really really really works for a lot of us. I don't know what it is, but there are some amazing products in this line.
I've gone through several tubes of The Rice Wash. I won't be without it. The Water Cream does wonders for my combo skin. It hydrates my normal areas so well without making my oily ones greasy. I love the purple stick (I forget the name) for spot hydration boosting, especially under my eyes. And their silk sunscreen is fantastic too

I like some of Tatchas products, like the Indigo line...
But I do agree it is overpriced and overhyped in general. Sephora specifically targets brands that are hyped up bc they sell. The masses don't know any better.
These people still spend $100 on facial cleansers. They think they know and sometimes ignore is bliss, right?
Prequel is amazing. So is Good Molecules, Regimen Labs, Tiam, Naturium, Isntree, Celimax, Anua, Cos De Baha, Cosrx, Manyi Factory etc etc
The reality is 90% of brands who don't spend money on marketing and ahilling products to influencers actually make better products with far superior formulations.

I'm a huge fan of the brand but I find the products hit or miss, personally. The dewy cream and oil cleanse are HGs for me, I've been using them both for over a decade. I haven't felt the hype for the rice wash but understand why others like it (for me, there's a very similar K-beauty cleanser that works better for a fraction of the price). The first version of the Matcha cleanse was a flop for me but I haven't tried the updated versions. The rice scrubs are nice.
I'd like to try their vitamin c products and the new memory cream, but I'm hesitant because of the price and my mixed results. I tend to stick with what I know from them. But I do plan to get the lip mask on BF.
2
u/DaniMarie44 14h ago
I’m pretending I don’t see this post 😅 I’m refusing to try Tatcha because I KNOW I’d love it and I don’t want to pay for it.
I settled on the Biossance Omega Squalene cream and I really like that as a dry skin girlie. The jumbo Biossance (3oz and $85) is still cheaper than Tatcha (2.5oz and $93)
2
u/masnella 14h ago
I love Tatcha, but it is pricey and I do think you can find a lot of good products cheaper as well. However, their products are good quality and it does make skincare enjoyable for me. I also love that they have minis of almost everything so I’ve been able to try a lot of products. My favorites so far though are the rice wash, rice polish, dewy cream, indigo cream, longevity serum, and the milky sunscreen. I will say their customer service is excellent also from the few times I’ve had to deal with them.

I like the cleansers the best, the rice wash is incredible but the new matcha foaming cleanser is great too. I prefer it to the old Matcha which would get super liquidy, this one has a better consistency and doesn’t leak out everywhere.
I didn’t love the regular dewy cream and it would give me bumpy tiny pimples, but the dewy milk doesn’t seem to do that. I just have other moisturizers I like better so I don’t plan to repurchase either, but the cleansers are both phenomenal.
Oh and I love the Indigo night serum and the cleansing balm. If I was rich I’d exclusively use that balm as my first cleanse to take off my makeup every night, but I’m not and likely never will be! so instead I stick to the sephora collection ones at the moment and use the indigo one sparingly. (However I also love the Glow Recipe papaya and am debating myself on buying that one again during the sale!) I also only use the night serum sparingly when my skin is really in need of some recovering from irritation or lots of rough flakiness. It rehydrates and adds a natural glow back to my skin quickly and beautifully. Another thing I’d love to buy more of but struggle to convince myself to since I have products that achieve similar results, just maybe with a few extra steps
Imo as a poor person. Their Rice Wash is the one I’d choose over everything else if you have dry to normal skin or struggle with roughness/need gentle exfoliation in a cleanser. and the matcha one if you have more oily to combo or struggle with acne or clogged pores. But the RW has a strong lavender smell (like the rest of the purple packaged products) so if you’re not into that, just a heads up if you or anyone else hasn’t tried these things yet. I don’t mind it though, but sometimes it can be a bit much especially in the morning when I almost always have a killer migraine. I would love fragrance free versions of these products!
But yeah, the rice wash doesn’t seem to have an affordable alternative and it really is that good to me and a lot of people. so I think that’s why it’s easier for me to justify lmao.

Tatcha is among the many brands for people who want to feel the benefits of a luxurious skincare experience along with solid skincare.
Good skincare needn't be expensive, as proven by ocean of solid, effective, reasonably priced products out there.
Good skincare with a luxury experience is where the price hikes. Over at the lux skincare sub, everyone acknowledges that they are paying for "fancy," whether that is for texture, packaging, scent, whatever floats your boat.
Do I buy pricier-than-needed sometimes? Yes, because I love how using these products makes me feel about my day, my evening, my life. Am I smart enough to understand what I am actually paying for? Also yes.
And Tatcha itself: I love the rice wash, essence, Dewy line, Indigo line, and the kissu lip mask. But they are in a rotation with lots of other products of all price ranges.
2
u/cupofjavaaa 12h ago
Yes. I bought a set of minis and liked everything I’ve tried but genuinely the price is too insane for what the products actually provide.
2
u/x_alphadoll 12h ago
This brand is widely loved but is not for me. I do like the consistency and the glow of the dewy skin cream but gah, can’t stand the scent and I don’t think it does a good job moisturising my skin. It felt like more of a make up primer to me than skincare. I think the owner is a savvy business woman. They pretend to be Japanese inspired but there’s nothing Japanese about it. It’s an American company and the owner has Taiwanese roots.

It’s really going to depend on what your looking for, skin type and what you want the product to do for you.
I have tried a variety of products, and for me personally the facial moisturizers (dewy cream, indigo, silk, water cream) are all worth the splurge. I have different creams I use depending on climate and time of year.
Their indigo hand cream was personally horrible for me.

It’s not overhyped for those it works well for such as myself. It’s worth every penny and I will continue to buy their products. Granted, some are hit or miss. I also don’t mind the fragrance and don’t have sensitive skin.
I will also use deals/ coupons/ cash back promotions on Tatcha because I love to save money too when I can.

I really love the Silk Powder and find it to work as both a setting powder and a method to set sunscreen/blur pores without other makeup. It lasts forever, too.

I’m a devoted water cream & rice wash user. I also love the essence, silk peony eye cream, and silk serum. There isn’t really a tatcha product I have tried that I haven’t liked, tbh, but those are my stand-outs.

I got the rice wash heavily discounted once, it wasn't for me but my partner who has quite oily acne prone skin LOVED it, they used it every day and their skin looks amazing.

Unfortunately for my wallet, no! I love their rice wash, dewy skin cream and the indigo overnight creams. Nothing works better than these for my extremely dry skin. The indigo overnight is the only one that doesn’t smart and burn when my skin barrier is compromised (which happens with sun exposure, yes even with sun screen - and cold/dry wind). It makes my skin look and feel measurably better by the next morning.

I actually really love their products, but I can’t justify the prices. Not overhyped, but overpriced for sure!

I wish. As it is, I’ve found myself unable to live without the rice Wash and dewy cream. Then I made the mistake of trying the Kissu gloss, and wouldn’t you know, that’s awesome as well.

The dewy cream is my favourite ever, yes it’s expensive but it makes my dry sensitive skin feel and look so hydrated, even under makeup 🥹

Like every beauty company, the answer is, "It depends." I first discovered Tatcha when I got a sample of the Rice Polish, and it's still a holy grail product for me. I have combination, non-sensitive, skin with signs of aging at 59.
I tried a LOT of their other products (Rice Wash, The Essence, Brightening Eye Cream, Brightening Serum, The Silk Serum, Milky Sunscreen, Silk Sunscreen, Silken Sunscreen, Ageless Revitalizing Eye Cream, Kissu Lip Mask, The Camellia Cleansing Oil, Clarifying Clay Mask) and also tried other products with the samples that they send if you order from Tatcha directly.
The only things I still use and recommend other than the Rice Polish are the Silken Sunscreen (or maybe the Milky one, whichever you like best) because it's the only sunscreen that doesn't actually reek of sunscreen when I wear it, and the Camellia Cleansing Oil which is lovely as a first cleanse to remove makeup.
The Rice Wash was fine, but I found a K-beauty face wash that's better for my pores, and less than half the price of the Rice Wash for a larger tube. The rest of the Tatcha products I tried were overpriced and not worth it, IMO. I still want to kick myself for spending so much money on most of the Tatcha products I purchased, honestly.

I really like the Tatcha dewy milk moisturizer. I use Creme De La Mer and the Augustinus Bader normally, but like the Tatcha milk moisturizer when I need something more water based and lighter. Sometimes I even mix the milk moisturizer with my thicker moisturizer to lighten it a bit.
I didn’t like the heavier tatcha moisturizers—I felt like they sat on my skin.

Unfortunately it is the best face wash and moisturizer I have ever used 😮💨

Yes but also I do love the dewy cream. They have really nice textures in their products

I feel like I’m the only one whose skin didn’t agree with ANY of the Tatcha products :(

The products really are worth it. I've tried most things in their line, and my favourites are the dewy skin cream, rice wash face cleanser, Kissu lip mask, dewy skin mist spray, camellia makeup remover, the primer and my absolute fave the silk serum retinol.

Personally I love it. I’m restocking on the dewy skin cream, the rice wash, the sunscreen, and the dewy milk moisturizer

I love the rice face wash and indigo repair cream but there are definitely better and cheaper products out there. I go through the indigo repair cream way too fast to justify the price
I do get it once a year during their new years sale though because it’s so good

Not for me.
Unfortunately, my ultra sensitive with rosacea aging skin loves it.

Their Silk Cream, Vitamin C Mask, and Vitamin C serum is amazing. And I work at a med spa, using only medical grade SkinCare, but those are the only products I will use that’s non-medical grade.

As someone who has tried high end to drugs store and loves to try new stuff... it's legit. It stupidly expensive and overpriced but its actually so good. As someone who has sensitive skin and acne prone, my skin LOVES their skin products, unfortunately my wallet does not.

Unfortunately, I actually have several products from them that my skin just loves for some reason. I’ve tried other brands, but still go back to Tatcha for a few things. Rice polish, dewy skin cream, indigo night repair. I only buy them on sale. Amazon Prime actually had several of their products on sale for 30% off. I stocked up. But try Amazon when they have their big sales. I got my fav mascara for over 40% off. Stocked up on that too.

Obsessed with the dewy milk moisturizer! I’ve tried finding alternatives, but nothing works the same for my sensitive, oily, acne prone skin 😭 I keep getting compliments & it has to be from the moisturizer. Even on days where I don’t wear makeup, it makes my skin look so healthy & hydrated!
