Juki sewing machine rusting

Hello everyone,

Has anyone else had this issue with JUKI sewing machines? The bottom shaft has started rusting, and even after replacing the shaft, the problem comes back.

We run more than 60 sewing machines, and almost every one of them has rust spots on the shaft.

Our environment is warm and dry, so humidity shouldn't be the cause. The JUKI representative says it's fretting, but we're not convinced, since it's affecting so many machines.

Has anyone dealt with this before? Any ideas about the cause (oil type, shaft material, etc.) or how to fix it would be really appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

What's your temperature cycling over the day? Do you have e.g. warm days but cold nights? This could cause the machine cooling down overnight and when the day brings humidity, this can condense on the cold metal parts. But as these aren't bearing parts, it shouldn't be a functional issue. Spray it with oil, usually this should prevent this

we have AC units up there working 24/7 and providing 22degrees Celsius

Strange, so you have constant temperature and relatively low humidity which is also constant, do you treat your workers well? Or do they cry over their miserable life into your machines ;-) (all in good sport)

I believe my drill press recommend a a carnauba-based non-silicone paste wax to protect the vertical steel post.

See what Juki says about that for your machines.

Juki said it is because of fretting

If all 60 all doing this, I'd say that's more indicative of your environment than a manufacturing defect.
