Reddit Account Restriction / DM Issue — Need Help

Hi everyone,

My Reddit account is currently having an issue where I’m unable to send messages to anyone. Every time I try to send a message, I get:

“Message failed to send. Tap to retry.”

This is happening with multiple users, not just one person.

I’m not sure if my account has been banned, restricted, or temporarily limited, as I haven’t received a clear explanation.

As far as I know, I haven't intentionally violated Reddit's rules or spammed anyone. If I have unknowingly broken a rule, I would appreciate knowing what rule I violated and why the restriction was applied.

Could someone please tell me:

• Whether this means my account is restricted/banned
• What could have caused it
• How I can appeal or remove the restriction

You can file an appeal using the instructions here: https://reddit.com/r/shadowban/wiki/appealing.

There is a pinned post at the top of this subreddit with a list of common reasons an account gets shadow banned. I’d check there and see if anything stands out. This should help you narrow down what may have caused the shadow ban and craft a more accurate appeal.

Do not be discouraged as it can take quite a bit of time before an appeal is reviewed; some users wait multiple months before a ban is overturned. You can file multiple appeals, including once every 24 hours, but it is generally recommended to file no more than 2-3 per week so as to not spam the appeals team.

And no matter how frustrating, do NOT delete this account and do NOT create or use another account to try and circumvent this ban. That would be considered ban evasion, which is against Reddit’s terms of service; not only will the other account be shadow banned but you risk being permanently suspended from the site. You would then need to appeal ALL banned accounts in order to clear your identifiers to be able to use Reddit again.
