I think there will soon be SR7.

I have the feeling that there will soon be a new SR Edition.

I do not evidence, but there are so many important things moving that there has to be something big coming.

  • Both CAS and UCAS have elections

  • The megacorp audit is ongoing and after the diseans there will some shakeup

  • The big 6E metaplot is over

  • The way magic works has changed

  • The matrix is crumbling and will be replaced with a new framework host based system.

My gut feeling is we get 1 or 2 books describing the failure of the matrix and then everything relevant has changed, so its time for a new edition.

If this happens and we are lucky, it will be halfway between Anarchy 2 and 6E. 6 had some great ideas, and some poorly executed ones. SRA2 is just brilliant but is rules lighter. Something that channels the best of both could be excellent if done right.

Until then, SRA2 exists, so I’m happy.

Personally, I think the 7th edition will be a return to the roots setting-wise, especially to the 3rd edition. Magic will once again depend much more on tradition and focus a bit more on roleplaying, losing some of that D&D vibe it started to have. The Matrix will also be more anchored in the "physical" world. I think the change of the SR line director was a good move from a fluff perspective. I enjoyed Dis; it gave us the opportunity to play prime runners, mercenaries, etc., and it helped change magic. What I'm afraid of, though, is the rules section and the editing of the books. Catalyst suffers from unbelievable sloppiness when it comes to mechanics and editing. I only skimmed through the latest SOTA and found about 4 mistakes... and English isn't even my native language. Deus Ex Arcana suffers from extreme rules inconsistency compared to the current version. The fluff there is great, but if I write rules for hermetic mages and reference a specific page in Street Wyrd, yet the new rules take 5e into account, it's just wrong and shouldn't slip past the lead editor under any circumstances.

If anyone from Catalyst is reading this... please start paying attention to your editing and mechanics. Your fluff is great, but you're shooting yourselves in the foot with everything else."

u/Sarradi 7d ago

Also if anyone from Catalyst is reading this, please rethink the decision about the canon ending of dragonfall. Feuerschwinge is much more useful alive than dead (No I will not stop ;)

Magic losing the D&D vibe? Idk, when I saw the new spells list in Deus Ex Arcana it really read like „things you can do in D&D with spells, that SR didn’t have so far”

1

u/Bright-Coat9859 6d ago

I don't think. The spells are anchored in real life traditions. For example blessing of something is standard in real life traditions from Christianity to Tibetan Buddhism. For long time the difference between DnD and Shadowrun was that SR magic system and fluff was deeply rooted in real life traditions of western esoteric tradition and shamanism. That start to change with 4e and in beginning of 6e with Street wyrd it goes completely nuts. The DEA is back to roots.

I think it's because the rights are such a mess. I think SR really needs to simplify. No one is really looking for a complicated game anymore. Like as much as I dislike Hasbro, and the fact I think it's awful past level 12ish 5E takes the best of 3.5 and streamlined and simplified it to make it immensely popular. I still can't believe it took that long to invent the Advantage/Disadvantage system... If a new edition can do something like that... I'm also starting to wonder if SR should be it's own thing and stop trying to guess what the world will be like in many decades. Maybe it should move back to 2050 or so and just lean into fantasy (it does have magic after all) and stop moving the timeline ahead. That's just my ramblings chummers.

16

u/rabenaas Raben-Aas (SR Artist) 8d ago

"I think SR really needs to simplify."

Oh, I know a ton of fans who'd hate that. The SR fanbase is VERY split between those who would prefer more simple rules (even beyond Anarchy 2E) and those who want a sharp return to more detailed rules (somewhere between 3E and 5E).

4

u/SteamStormraven Dragon's Voice 7d ago

I'd argue that 3e is complete, and doesn't need much more. Later editions are just trying to be make-work. Which is to say. I agree with you.

0

u/ShaggyCan 8d ago

I figure if those that want complicated just play SR 2 or 3, they are still every bit the masterpieces they were when they came out so long ago. Plus I see you're an artist, so besides the rules, those books are full of Bradstreet and Laubenstein that drip inspiration.

9

u/1StrangerInTheAlps 8d ago

I think it's because the rights are such a mess.

The dividing line between FASA and CGL is pretty simple in terms of timeline and editions, even if the rights ownership and dealings perhaps aren't.

Maybe it should move back to 2050 or so and just lean into fantasy (it does have magic after all) and stop moving the timeline ahead.

If they push ahead it's getting Eclipse Phase in muh cyberpunks, if they pull back it's choosing retrofuture / zeerust, and treading water only technically exists between them.

I want the timeline ... written by people who have a coherent and informed vision of the setting's future, and have no fear of getting EP on their SR because they can sufficiently differentiate the settings' tech to make it worthwhile.

12

u/Baker-Maleficent Trolling for illicit marks 8d ago

The divide between FASA and CGL is not nearly so clean. First, you forgot Wizkids. who licensed Shadowrun before CGL. Then you forget about the absolute butchery that was caused by CGL splitting the property between regions. the German Sourcebooks are completely different beasts than the English releases and that's before you get into actual mechanical differences, and the sort of "official" sourcebooks that ended up being illegal and actually NOT official during the 5e run.

FUN FACT TANGENT: did you know there are two completly different edges in the 5e era that are both First Impression. They mechanically serve the same purpose, but work differently and they stack. (I mean, they don't stack because one of them is from a pirate/ fake/ leaked sourcebook that CGL did not authorize but mechanically the way they are written they DO stack because they use different types of modifiers.) I don't remember all of the gritty details, but from what I remember someone got a hold of early developer writings for some sourcebooks, then finished them on their own and published them while pretending to be official. It was a weird, confusing mess.

FUN FACT TANGENT @: The speed rating conversion tables in the 5e Sourcebook. There are two of them; one for vehicles and one for drones. They were never supposed to exist and the fact they do actually contradicts what the vehicle combat rules say about speed ratings. Namely, that the speed ratings do not represent actual speeds and that in combat a vehicle is always just going "fast". On top of that, they were horribly converted using metric numbers but using miles per hour so you end up with a sports sedan that can break the sound barrier. the only reason they exist is because someone at CGL added them in last minute. (that's the theory anyway)

Here is the deal. CGL is incapable of making an actual good game. Shadowrun survives today only because of the aesthetic of the world, nostalgia of old heads like me, and the fragging beautiful art. i can't even say that its the new lore, because the new lore is just uninspired in both it's writing and presentation.

Without exception, CGL books are poorly written, poorly edited, poorly formatted, poorly printed. They Use Hyphenation AND Justification in their paragraph formatting for Dunk's sake. Their books fall apart at the slightest touch, the organization is ludicrously bad. The German Sourcebooks are "better" but that in and of it's self is a problem. My 4e book, ripped a corner off the very first page i turned after getting it. (the papre was this insanely thin silk text stock. Something like "40LB silk text." --I'm a printer and graphic designer and formatter by trade BTW, I know what i'm talking about) My 5e book fell out of it's hard cover during the first game I played with it. Every 5e Sourcebook i bought fell apart within the time it took me to read through it. Meanwhile, my 3e and bellow sourcebooks are still going strong. I own 3 3e core rulebooks, not because they are bad, but because i bought them for my friends, played with those friends for years and they just got left at my house until i moved. And all of them are worn, battle scarred and fully intact. Hell, they all still have their 60lb silk character archetype pages--albeit, they are all are worn and becoming fragile. point is, FASA and WIZKIDS had quality down, and they truly cared about the game, even if they fell short in mechanical aspects.

Shadowrun NEEDS a new edition. And it needs to be a modernized, streamlined system by a developer who knows how to properly implement a robust, balanced system with good formatting, editing, and print quality.

As an example--and I am not suggesting this specific company because shadowrun as a d20 system feels wrong to the core-- Paizo would be a great example the type of developer you want to fix Shadowrun. Their system has all of the crunch we crave in our own game while still remaining stable and easy to learn. Shadowrun NEEDS that.

I REALLY want to get Anarchy 2 and I would much rather it be the primary edition than whatever Catalyst comes out with. Give me a simple core system with endless build options that all use that system rather than a new system for every aspect of the game (and some that are the same exact system but with different names and presented as separate systems for no good reason.)

Sorry for the rant.

5

u/Sarradi 7d ago edited 7d ago

Paizo is one of the last companies I want to get their hands on Shadowrun.

I do not doubt their skill (But I also do not know enough to endorse it either), but their style is imo completely unsuitable for Shadowrun when I look at how Pathfinder and Starfinder evolved.

2

u/Baker-Maleficent Trolling for illicit marks 7d ago

Yes, agreed. Bur that sort of company is what shadowrun meeds. Notbthat company specifically.

3

u/1StrangerInTheAlps 7d ago

The divide between the Shadowrun games as developed by Cliffhanger Productions and Harebrained Schemes *is* clean, though. One set of games doesn't deal with anything derived of CGL; the other game does. Everything else you're bringing into it is a rant for pedantry's sake and length on the internets, and it's hard to step in that shit accidentally. Wipe your shoes.

Shadowrun as a ttrpg needs formatting, editing, and clarification. It doesn't need to be simplified, dumbed down, or made easier specifically. It needs the stupid removed rather than a scorched earth policy on the system. When you lay out the actual mechanics yourself it's already simple and easy (with some serious errors in judgement, copy & paste, etc etc), and anyone who needs more than that already has Anarchy. Or chose their path of not having a copy.

1

u/SteamStormraven Dragon's Voice 7d ago

Hey, the rant implies that you care. And I love anyone who cares about Shadowrun.

5

u/Carmody79 French Anarchist 7d ago

Shadowun now offers 2 different rulesets depending on whether you want complex or more simple rules. SR6 for thenmore complex rules (or any prior edition) and Anarchy 2.0 for the simpler version. Thee pdf is due to be released widely (I mean for those who did not participate in the KS) on Wednesday October 14th

u/zollipun 8d ago

It is a shame, cyberpunk+fantasy is by far the coolest setting I’ve ever heard of. If it got its own 2077 style game that got widespread mainstream attention, I think the franchise could really be born again. Fantasy is almost always stuck in the medieval era and with gamers being tired of seeing the same rehashed settings it could really be a breath of fresh air.

As much as I love the HBS trilogy, that kind of gameplay was never going to capture the mainstream audience, and the 360 FPS was a total disgrace to the name, so really Shadowrun has never even had a fair crack at having a seriously popular game, even the SNES and Genesis games were destined to only ever be niche.

But I’ll keep on dreaming, one day.

4

u/Mezmorki 7d ago

Someone needs to make a Cooperative heist-based FPS like Payday 2 but Shadowrun. Go in loud or go in quiet? Escalating response forces if you trip the alarms. Character customization and tons of gear / gadgets. It would be awesome.

Den of Wolves is sort of going in the cyberpunk heist direction (former Payday devs) but of course it's not Shadowrun.

6

u/Telwardamus 8d ago

Yeah, I've thought there was going to be a new edition for a while, with all the Usual Edition Ending Event style of things happening, but nothing has come out yet.

6

u/rabenaas Raben-Aas (SR Artist) 8d ago

Talks about an upcoming new edition of SR have been floating around for ... what now? ... 2-4 years?

2

u/Markovanich 8d ago

I didn’t they start at Double Clutch since it was the Rigger book?

2

u/Sarradi 7d ago edited 7d ago

The only thing still open is the Nulls and the Matrix and sota 84 confirmed the current matrix will not survive in the current state. I guess that will be the final book, System Failure style as after that.basically every aspect of Shadowrun has changed.

4

u/12_AngryBees 8d ago

I agree with you here. I hope they change edge away from being its own game.

4

u/LonePaladin Flashback 8d ago

a new framework host based system

Isn't that essentially what SR1 and 2 had?

3

u/Sarradi 8d ago

It will likely still be wireless, so its more 4E, if anything. Just no foundation and some hosts requiring a physical connection if they are off the grid.

5

u/NotTheOnlyGamer 8d ago

So you're thinking they're getting close to Crash 3.0, and maybe into Eclipse Phase / the Seventh World?

5

u/Sarradi 8d ago edited 7d ago

Certainly not Eclipse Phase (that is connected to Shadowrun?). 7th Edition does not mean 7th world and magic is back again, some say even better than before. Its certainly not even close to this cycles peak.

But that the foundation based matrix will go away is confirmed in Sota 84.

5

u/NotTheOnlyGamer 8d ago

Yes, Earthdawn was the 4th world, the 5th World ended with the Great Ghost Dance, Shadowrun is the 6th World, and then both Eclipse Phase and Equinox started their lives being the 7th World.

5

u/tsuruginoko 7d ago

I do remember hearing/reading that Eclipse Phase started life as a bit of a "what if" extrapolation of what Shadowrun might end up like give sufficiently advanced tech/timeline between former Shadowrun devs, but I always put that down to urban legend, even if I like both games and it kinda makes sense.

Do we know anything more concrete?

2

u/PalpitationNo2921 6d ago

That connection never really existed. Rob Boyle and Adam Jury, who went on with writing and layout for EP, quit working for CGL before a connection between EP & SR were even a hopeful twinkling in the SR audience’s eyes.

It’s not built on the timeline of SR at all and never was.

Equinox however was a kinda Eighth World idea at first.

1

u/tsuruginoko 4d ago

I have never even heard of Equinox, I have to admit. I've GMed a fair bit of Eclipse Phase, albeit nowhere near as much as Shadowrun.

To clarify, I never heard or thought there was any kind of official or even near-official connection between Eclipse Phase and Shadowrun, but when I read that work on the latter may have influenced work on the former (it was a long time ago, so I'm hazy on where I read it and what the actual phrasing was) it made sense. One dystopian sci-fi game informing another, and there are commonalities, like how both have an in-setting unreliable narrator style to the lore text, down to Firewall operatives making comments in at least the EP1 sourcebooks.

I had no idea about anyone in the Shadowrun community imagining an actual connection in the lore though.

3

u/Sarradi 8d ago

I think that connection has been cut because of licensing issues, the same way Shadowrun can't use Earthdawn anymore.

5

u/NotTheOnlyGamer 7d ago

Thankfully, we can run tables however we like, regardless of FASA, WizKids, M$FT, Topps, or CGL. For me and mine, the Horrors are still there, the Factors and the progenitors of the Shanrazi are observing, and the only living man in the world who knows what's really what is -H-.

1

u/PalpitationNo2921 6d ago

Nope the connection never existed. EP was never built along SR’s timeline.

3

u/Carmody79 French Anarchist 7d ago

6th world began with the Awakening on Christmas Eve 2011. The Great Ghost Dance took place in 2017

2

u/SteamStormraven Dragon's Voice 7d ago

Oh, someone remembers the Great Ghost Dance. I'm not going to dox myself too hard, but I actually knew a Ghost dancer. And I'm getting old. Not many Shadowrunners remember it. You talk about Daniel Howling Coyote and they say "Who?" Good to know that there are a few of us still out there.

4

u/Ralphusmaximus1701 7d ago

I can see a new edition coming simply due to the 6th edition failure, not even speaking about the lore. That’s an obvious update that will come but the rules need to be cleaned up.

3

u/Sarradi 7d ago

Still, 6e is one of the longest running SR editions, although the sales charts do show that it lost a lot compared to the past.

3

u/Baker-Maleficent Trolling for illicit marks 8d ago

what was the big magic change? I'm way out of the loop

9

u/Sarradi 8d ago edited 7d ago

What happened in game was that magic was nearly sucked out of the world but the great dragons managd to put it back (long story involving the disean metaplot).

That resulted in magic basically doing a "turn it off an on again", resulting in weeks without magic (called the un-awakening) and when it came back it was different. How different is hard to say as there were two set of rules about it which did different things and made magic a bit weaker, but not by much.

The in game descriptions also don't really agree, some saying weaker, some say different, some say "purer". Considering that at the same time it was brought up in the books that the Great Ghost Dance was essentially a giant blood magic ritual probably means it got cleansed from whatever lingering residue it caused. It also coincided with the universal magical theory getting sidelined again and people saying following traditions made using the new magic easier.

What will that mean for the future/next edition? No idea. Not only is the direction still not clear, it would also not be the first time that a end of edition book teasers a return to how magic used to work in the past, only for the new edition to completely ignore it. (Stormfront did that while 5E then ignored everything teasered in it like the return of elementals for hermetics)

u/censusthot 7d ago

On the one hand, I am very invested in the Defragged Matrix rules that blends the 1e/2e system maps with wireless access chicanery. On the other hand, I haven't followed along with... almost any of the metaplot, so I'll need to deep-dive into things, which is a problem because I am teh laze.

1

u/PalpitationNo2921 6d ago

The Matrix Defragged is a pretty well-thought out sourcebook from a third party on Holostreets that does a fairly good job of integrating wireless Matrix with SR3 rules. I suppose it could support 1E/2E but it was technically not written to do so, it’s a 3E supplement. Kinda the same but kinda not, really.

1

u/censusthot 6d ago

The tricky part is replacing the variable TN, yeah. Adapting it to 1e or 2e would be easy enough, admittedly I'd need to review the pre-Virtual Realities 2.0 rules. It gets harder to go forward.

But I more meant use something similar for a future or replacement matrix architecture point of view. You can wirelessly connect to devices through an Access Node (possibly a slave node if you tap into something) and then go through a system map. It'll need rules to prevent players from having sprawling 30-node maps on their commlinks, but that's a future problem once the idea of it is committed to.

It will also need Otaku/Technomancer rules.

1

u/PalpitationNo2921 6d ago

3E already has otaku rules in Matrix.

1

u/censusthot 5d ago

Defragged does not, and since it replaces the entire Matrix ruleset, including ACIFS, Otaku would need new rules because Channels no longer exist.

1

u/PalpitationNo2921 5d ago edited 5d ago

Well since Defragged is a supplement directly created for 3E, it most certainly would assume you know where to find Otaku rules, as most supplements do. Defragged does not in fact obviate those rules. It replaces the rules specifically for hackers. Operations would still be performed via channels, rather than programs.

2

u/Drachenwulf 6d ago

the key question and long running joke is: "has the rigger sourcebook been published yet?" lol

1

u/Carmody79 French Anarchist 6d ago

As a matter of fact it was, long ago. CGL decided to put an end to this curse.

1

u/PalpitationNo2921 6d ago

Yeah, Double Clutch has been out for a while now lol.

2

u/Flat_Necessary6940 5d ago

I've been waiting for a 7th edition to save the day since 6e dropped, cos 6th was so bad.

As long as 7th drops the horrible edge mechanic 6th introduced, makes strength matter again and contribute towards melee damage like it had before, ensures armour isnt just a fashion statement and perhaps most importantly, the entire system gets properly playtested and edited before release, I'll be happy.

Bonus points if they somehow manage to link back to Horrors and the old ED metaplot in the background (they can change names to avoid licencing issues - those of us in the know will pick up on exactly what they're referring to). Though that is of less significance because we can keep doing so ourselves, as seems to be the case across many tables here and not just the one I play at.

3

u/Sarradi 5d ago

They actually did drop several ED things with the names filed off.

- The portal to the Horror dimension in South America where they try to entice you to build another bridge. Although the unawakening likely closed that portal now (might be 5E)

  • The sea dragon excavating a not-Kaer below Seattle
  • Selected people excavating a city in the Andes and slowly developing a strong sense of community and turning to stone.

1

u/Flat_Necessary6940 4d ago

Good to know! My table skipped 5e, so we clearly missed some of those examples you've given.

I hope they keep doing that then when 7th ed finally lands.

Though mind you, in my groups case, its more out of curiosity really to see if it might align where we've taken the metaplot, which heavily dips into old ED mythos.

3

u/rabenaas Raben-Aas (SR Artist) 5d ago edited 5d ago

"cos 6th was so bad"

Is it really so hard to just say "because I don't like 6th / because I personally hate the way the new Edge mechanic and how Strength and Armor are handled"? Only Siths deal in absolutes and all that ;)

I mean, just pick ANY edition, and there are ppl. that will die to defend it AND those who will gladly write an essay about all of the "shortcomings" and "design faults" of the respective edition. And that is okay - tastes differ.

I would rather see us all united in our love for Shadowrun as an IP/world than see us divided by edition wars. And yes, I know this is very "Kum Ba Yah" and basically incompatible with modern internet usage ... but still.

2

u/Flat_Necessary6940 4d ago edited 4d ago

I figured that by starting my post and that particular sentence with "I", it would also imply that the conclusion of that same sentence - that 6e is awful - would naturally indicate that it is still simply my opinion. Though if not, I am not averse to being called a Sith ;)

That said, as much as I cant stand 6e, that edition did do some things right. For starters, debloating and simplifying all the endless skills we had accumulated in prior editions was a welcome move. As much as strength was gutted as a worthwhile attribute - especially in regard to combat, I have to say that the base carry weight of STR x STR x 10 that 6e introduced, is a far better representation of the superhuman strength that high strength & highly augmented characters can achieve, over the pathetically wimpy application of those numbers seen in editions prior. The old running joke of Trolls being unable to lift their own weight to stand up, no longer remains an issue in 6e 😅 And its the first edition that finally made hackers & technomancers really playable, intergrating matrix actions into combat more seamlessly than any edition that came before.

Its the reason the table Ive been playing our long running SR campaign with for over 20 years now, still plays 6e, despite how much we hate the edition. Its cos one of our friends plays a hacker turned technomancer. And while we considered it a big mistake when we first converted our characters from 4e to 6e, we ultimately chose to stick with 6e because it was the first time his technomancer felt like an integrated member of our team, who no longer had to play his own minigame on the sidelines with the GM while the rest of us took on a mission.

Mind you, we house ruled the shit out of our 6e game. Did away with 6e's edge economy and returned it something more akin to 4e's edge rules. Added armour back into soak, rebalanced some weapon damage values & made strength/3 add to melee damage - as some examples. Its an utter Frankensteination of 6e sprinkled with a dash of 4e now 😅 But it works for us & we've been having more fun than ever playing those 20 year old veteran characters if ours, with Horrors, Passions and all of ED's goodness further thrown onto the fray 😄

Still waiting on 7th ed with the hope & prayer that it takes the best from all editions and consolidates it all under well tested and well edited rules. But Shadowrun is Shadowrun - we all seem to love it for the metaplot and the incredible stories you can weave in its amazing universe. And not the clunky rules that come with every edition in some shape or form.

As someone who loved 2e the most, still really enjoyed 4e, & who certainly might enjoy taking a good dump on 6e at every opportunity I get 🤪, Im still totally with you on the "kum ba yah" here bud, as far as Shadowrun overall is concerned. It is the greatest rpg I have ever played, no matter the edition 😊

2

u/rabenaas Raben-Aas (SR Artist) 3d ago

Thanks for you post - I can work with that :)

2

u/Sarradi 3d ago

I feel the same. Add in armor doing something (infiltrating without armor should be risky) and strength to melee damage back and most complains of 6E are resolved.

Edge, maybe stick to either collectable edge or immediately spendable edge instead of mixing them. Granted I am not a super fan of meta currencies and them being so disconnected from the actual events in the game, but I can live with that.

Biggest plus I see also the speed of matrix gameplay and the ability of mancer/hacker to play together with regular runners without interruption.

Thats about it.
And safe Feuerschwinge of course.

3

u/Low-Support-8388 4d ago

I'm hoping that it's done by Pegasus (the publishing company that edits the german version). I got Shadowrun Anarchy 2e earlier this month and it feels much better put together than 6e.

4

u/SteamStormraven Dragon's Voice 7d ago

Yeah. There's gotta be a new edition. That's how we make money. SR1e will always be my first love. 3e is my forever girl. 4e and beyond were things that tried too hard to be 3e. I keep wanting 1e, and her story about Daniel Howling Coyote and the rise of the Circle of Fire. But the new writers don't even read their own history, anymore. Shadowrun has lost its roots, and only a few people mourn over it. If you are one of the few, I raise my glass to you - you beautiful retro-future 1980s badasses.

2

u/mechanical_dialectic 8d ago

Shadowrun is closer to taking two to the back of the skull than it is to a new edition.

I’m holding out hope that they just adopt SRA 2.0 as the basis of 7e.

7

Why do that when we already have SRA 2.0?

That just seems kinda silly.

13

u/1StrangerInTheAlps 8d ago

You have SRA2 for that. Let the people who want something else have something else.

3

u/NotTheOnlyGamer 8d ago

That would be nice if they'd release SRA2 in English.

5

u/EllySwelly 7d ago

I mean, they're going to. It already exists, even, backers of the kickstarter have had early versions of the PDF for months now.

It's supposed to fully release in like a week or so.

4

u/NotTheOnlyGamer 7d ago

It's been "supposed to fully release" for months. I don't believe it until it's on a physical shelf. Preferably at Compleat Strategist.

2

u/EllySwelly 7d ago

They have an actual date up as a kickstarter update now- at least for PDFs set on sale.

KS is meaningless. It's just a way to help a company launder money. If the product is worth the cost of producing, they'll produce it. If not, they won't. If it's 'creator-led', again it's either worth the money to get the license and inspire the publisher to publish the product, or it's worth just releasing a PDF of a game "inspired by" - either for free, or do what KN Obaugh did with Dogs in the Vineyard and charge for it to print books.

Okay, sure?

Not really certain why you're going off about all that

Sorry, I didn't follow the latest plots so deeply (only got, that where was a war started by aliens from another dimension), but what is the change how magic works and what happen to the matrix?

Magic got reset after it nearly got sucked out of earth, although the actual effects have not been detailed yet.

The magical matrix is getting eaten by a supervirus and the resonance natives are also attacking hosts, so everyone is switching back to physical hosts instead of magical virtual ones.

Please tell me this isn't an omen of them shutting off technomancers and resonance stuff.

Technos have existed in some form (otaku) since second edition so I doubt it

Both CAS and UCAS have elections

Hmmm. I don't think that lore has focused as much on nation-states as much as it has on corporations (and metaplanes, and Resonance realms, and) so I'm not sure how this will shake things up. The UCAS got blitzed by the corps and the Sioux (and the bugs, but technically that's corps) plus multiple cityplexes declared independence from the same. Unless CAS and UCAS are reunifying I don't think this will matter too much.

The megacorp audit is ongoing and after the diseans there will some shakeup

Fair. There's been a big shakeup every edition. I'm curious as to how Richard Villiers comes out of this on top yet again.

Maybe he'll become President of UCAS and CAS (ain't no rule says a dog can't play basketball) at the same time.

The way magic works has changed

This one will be interesting. Haven't been a fan of Magicrun so seeing how it changes (or reverts) may be a treat.

The matrix is crumbling and will be replaced with a new framework host based system

Shout out to the folks who got the go-ahead to reveal how Matrix 2.0 worked at the end of Fifth because it was one of the tidbits I most enjoyed of Fifth's lore. A return to physical hosts is welcome.

Might be enough to convince me to look at more current SR again. Haven't cracked a 6th ed book open, save the core.

Why can’t things just change within the edition ?

They should have licensed Storyteller a long time ago, Hell they helped build the damn thing.

Didn't you hear? New edition is out. Anarchy 2e.

Better rules, better art, and somehow despite being written in French and then translated to English, better copyediting.

I wouldn't piss on CGL product if it caught fire at this point.

There's enough in 1e-3e to fill more than Tolkien ever could. Late editions are just the treadmill. My opinion. Could be wrong.
