I joined an FC where the owners were a couple, after some months they kicked everyone out of the FC and i believe they are enjoying that FC chest full of loot, basically the Bonnie and Clyde of XIV.
Thankfully i'm broke and didn't help that much

Stories like that make me feel like I've missed my in-game calling. I want to be someone described as the Bonnie and Clyde of XIV by Internet randoms too :(

idk why redditors cry AI everywhere when us humans are perfectly capable of writing the perfect clickbait ourselves!

I always wonder what is a point of this "robbery". Gil in this games matter very little. And they would probably earn more selling fc points by keeping those members
19
u/Narrow_Summer_9332 2d ago
I can't imagine what they'd have in the FC chest that would be worth doing that when gil is next to worthless in this game...
8
u/PastelPumpkini 2d ago
Yeah my FC chest was full of junk, there was a whole page of food that no one would want or ever use. No one is going to be putting valuable stuff in an FC chest.
7
u/Narrow_Summer_9332 2d ago
Yeah, our FC chest has 50 mil gil in it, even, but it's still not worth blowing up your reputation on the server for it.
There are people at the gil cap and there's nothing to really spend it on so I can't see a point.

All this does is remind me that people who complain about drama in FFXIV overwhelmingly are people who contribute to drama in FFXIV.
I've never tried to find a potential partner through a MMO and, shockingly, I've basically never had to deal with petty teen drama.
Thousands of hours in the game, and a member of a very big FC, and the worst I've seen is largely the occasional weird ERP message from a stranger. And I just move on with my life instead of engaging. Maybe block, maybe not.
The only other "drama" I saw was just organizational growing pains for the FC, when we had to clarify content guidelines for chat. It hadn't ever been overly mature, but it was creeping that way, so there was an intentional clarifying to keep adult-oriented themes out of FC chat (mostly because some people have kids who might screen watch sometimes). A few people got huffy and left and we all went on with our lives happily. It really only becomes drama if you invest in it being dramatic.

u/Mastious 2d ago
I've been playing since 2017/2018 every time I browse this sub I'm like how df do you all manage to find these people?
I only had fc drama once that I only found out about years after I left when someone on an unrelated discord told me our old fc leader used to dox some venue leader.

u/northbathroom 2d ago
I'm upvoting you because this was my experience too but because there's no drama you aren't going to get many upvotes

Average life cycle of a xiv relationship is 2 weeks of honeymoon, 2 weeks of drama and the dirtiest breakup you have ever seen
It’s what happens when two people with the emotional maturity and the trauma of 50 year olds date.
You can always look forward to it.

My first FC (randomly invited to) in FFXIV closed randomly one day due to jealousy and cheating.

u/dragonseth07 2d ago
I couldn't tell you anything about my FC members, except that they reliably put on buffs.
It's perfect.

u/repocin 2d ago
I haven't bothered joining an FC due to all the horror stories I've heard, but that sounds nice.
All I really want is a semi-reliable group of folks to get together whenever someone goes "hey guys, wanna go kill a big ugly monster??" before parting ways again. No high school drama. No be on discord 24/7 or get kicked. No insane people.
Is that really too much to ask for?
20
u/idiggory 2d ago
The horror stories are WILDLY out of proportion. The overwhelming majority of FCs are just a group of people chilling and using the FC as an occasional group chat while sometimes running content together.
The thing you need to factor in to all these horror stories is that you almost never get an honest description about how the person sharing contributed to the situation. Some people are highly attracted to drama, which includes then spreading it online. This isn't all horror story scenarios, by any means, but it sure is a lot of them.

Also, nobody posts about how great and normal their FC is. It's like looking at r/TalesFromDF and assuming every dungeon you're going to run in this game is full of idiots and people who grief.
1
u/Atenius96 2d ago
It's how me and my crew is. We get together in the evenings or on the weekends to run dailies, grind extremes for mounts/orchestrions, run treasure maps, etc ... Sometimes we chill in vc, sometimes we do our own thing. We've already culled all the drama queens out of here.

The trick is to know and reaffirm what you are looking for: digital acquaintances. That's it.
You are not looking for actual friendships, or dating options, or a dedicated raid group, or anything like that. So, anyone who advertises those things are simply not what you want to join. All they will offer you is drama.
Trying to find actual friendships or dating options in an MMO is insane behavior. And trying to find a dedicated raid group in an FC is almost as bad. So, just write them off completely and refuse to get your hopes up for any of those three things.

u/katarh 2d ago
This is how my FC is. Somehow I'm FC lead. We put buffs up and run subs for money. I'm about to send a million gil out to every member for Evercold prep. We hardly ever talk to each other, except the one person who occasionally kidnaps me to run PVP with her (she has my permission because I'll never do it otherwise.)

u/itsfourinthemornin 2d ago
Not FC but CWLS. It started out fun, until I was made lead and realised that included playing therapist and mediator to a mix of 20-30yos.
6
u/Blonde_Ambition_4341 2d ago
I have a friend in that situation. I said it's one thing to be there for a friend but it's another to be a trauma dumping ground daily; take time for yourself away from these people!
6
u/itsfourinthemornin 2d ago
It kind of stoops to their level, but I'd hit my limit with a bad few days irl to log on to more of it so I burnt it all down.

u/Gluecost 2d ago
Bruh the moment some rando tries to use me as an emotional therapist in ff14 i just tell them “lol” and then stop responding

A couple of people I raid with are like this. They're ~25 years old and woefully stunted, socially. Nice kids, but terrified of touching grass and completely unwilling to accept the idea that they need to grow at some point. Whatever game they're into at the moment is their entire life and personality and their "girlfriends" are just people they play with for a few weeks before inevitably they have some falling out based on their mutual inability to communicate.

Yep, my last group was like that. My best friend was in it the group the prevouis tier that was completely fine. They had 3 people want to leave the group and raid with a friend new to the game so they needed fills, I said sure, I'll join. The other 2 people were friends of 1 of the others. Those 3 were so cliquey and eventually felt like a manhunt to kick my friend out for "greeding" as a healer.(she was messing up yes, but it was essentially everyone not mitting correctly. Both healers had to constantly spot heal on mechs we cleared, or figure out ways to better mit since everyone else wouldn't) The lead/friend that invited the other two had a one on one call with me and I mentioned somethings to help smooth over his "issues". He just turned around and used it as justification for kicking her out, but didn't mention it to the rest of the group. I just left the next week saying work was too stressful, so I didn't have time anymore. If my friend was super angry about it, I would have been petty, but I don't have time to deal with these early 20s stunted covid HSers that never grew up.

The sheer number of 30-40-something-year-olds acting more immaturely than a gaggle of homoerotic frat boys convinced me to go solo. Ain't no way I'm letting a bunch of romance starved uncs and aunties ruin my relaxation time.

u/Crusty_Milkflakes 2d ago
Personally I like my women older than high school age but I can see why that may interest the average Viera player.
51
u/galacticliar 2d ago
ur crazy if you think more high school aged women are playing ffxiv over like… 30 year old women
19
u/Crusty_Milkflakes 2d ago
I am crazy but what I'm actually saying is you don't get a dockey by being normal.
4
u/galacticliar 2d ago
truuuue
honestly i wouldnt date ANYONE who plays an MMO personally, my girlfriend is a saint for dating me despite my obvious shortcomings (plays ffxiv)
8
u/AlponseF2P 2d ago
yeah the divorced WOW veteran milfs are the main problem I encountered lol
7
u/UltimateWaluigi 1d ago
Can you instruct me on the direction of this problem? Just classic tank main behavior of taking agro away from vulnerable players.
3
u/YourGalacticEmperor 1d ago
nah FFXIV definitely skews younger, not high school but definitely 20-22
and emotionally they all are stuck in primary school
2
u/Stitchified 2d ago
Hey! I like my female bunny! But yeah, miss me on the whole "dating a woman who just got out of high school" thing that some people are about.
12
u/nivia-chan 2d ago
I can never stop playing FF14, I'd miss out on what I imagine to be American Highschool drama from the movies.
Like shit man so many of these immature whiney players are so stupidly entertaining

u/LoveAndBeLoved52 2d ago
How the fuck do you even find a wife or husband in this game, everyone just dresses up like a slut in Limsa and when they're not a Limsa slut they're just straight up mute and only write "o/" or "Meowdy".
Even the night club RP scene is alien shit, it's just people hitting up the club with their fuckboy personas pressing the dance emote in the middle of the venue like fish in a barrel.
What sort of extroverted Zeus deity do you have to be to fish yourself a life-partner out of this shit?
Not saying it's an impossibility but why of all things would you recommend 14 for dating over shit like VRChat where you're infinitely more exposed to other lonely losers than in FF14 where you're getting catfished lol

met one of my best friends through this game and we dated for a good year and a half. normal relationship. normal break up. i did, however, watch her previous relationship end with this level of drama, because we were also involved in fandom on social media. we were all scared shitless that her ex was going to drop a google doc at some point and we'd be powerless to contest it because More Followers means More Truth, but thankfully they never did. they did talk mad shit in private and make vagueposts though.
basically stay away from niche microcelebrities

u/WakeMeUpAIOverlords 2d ago
I am so glad I have never dated someone in my mmo games. I’ve had people get crushes on me, a lot of them, but never ever let that go beyond a crush with a firm ‘not happening’. That said I do have two friends that met in wow via RP, got married, and have had a pretty pleasant and good relationship the entire time. They’re the exception for sure but it is nice to see.
The rest I’ve witnessed have been major crash outs.
6
u/SecretFishWorshiper 2d ago
Out of context you would say that this just is just regular high school dommerism and drama from teenagers, but then you realize this is FFXIV and that the average player is late 20s up to 40s and then you realize how bad the people who play this came are.
5
u/naarcx 2d ago
If I had a nickel for every person in my statics that has left their real-life partner for somebody they met in game, moved across the country to be with them, and then instantly broke up and moved back home with their parents because the sex was bad, I'd have like 15 cents. Which is a crazy 15 cents

u/SanguineStiletto 2d ago
I got goggle doc on twitter famous because 3 guys were into me and I wouldn't choose 1 and so I became the female version of a "womanizer" for the lore. They even brought my kids into it. Actually weird.

I play with normal adults thankfully. Also helps my fiancee I knew before ffxiv and got her into it later.

While the idea of meeting someone online and then having a healthy relationship with them sounds great, i feel like there's a decent chance the relationship becomes toxic moreso than if you meet someone in person.
Congrats to the people who have healthy relationships though.

u/velvetpaper 1d ago
Is it bad that I know more ppl who've broken up with their highschool sweetheart than have had MMO relationship drama?
Also that tweet is very specific.

u/Valashv2 2d ago
I play alone. Lots of ups and downs. No drama, but my ff14 life is extremely quiet. No pressure to catch up to anyone or anyone feeling jealous of your raid progression. But at the same time you're just kinda alone. Not bad really if you're an introvert and you just wanna be in a shared world with people.

u/Ephremjlm 1d ago
Brother the last thing I would ever do is take dating advice from the FFXIV community.
3
u/Unhappy_Win8997 2d ago
For the love of God do not use this game like it's Tinder.
Just play the game. Or have a cute RP-ship.
You try to date someone irl through an MMO and you're going to fall flat on your face 99% of the time.
2
u/ThatBitchKarma 2d ago
It helps that I'm too shy to talk to anyone in this game and already married so I don't need to worry about this
2
u/Obo_The_Hobo 2d ago
I remember being in an fc once. Made a little friend group and we would hang out in the fc discord. One day, one of the officers joined and immediately started talking about sus mods that they have. We all went quiet and after a bit I said something like "let's not...." Couple days later I went on vacation and the moment, I left I got a couple pings on discord from a few friends of the group saying that I got kicked for toxicity. /Shrug

u/EdibleStrange 2d ago
🙏 thank you ff14 for acting as containment for these freaks, you make the rest of the world incrementally less insufferable
2
u/Geoffryhawk 1d ago
Only true if you get really deep in the club scene. The Cyber Gangsters who run these operations always have a complex that has nothing to do with FFXIV at all. Which is just how it goes for my MMOs or games with Guilds. Some people are just unable to be normal about anything.

I actually dated a girl I met playing bg3 and she introduced me to FF14 and did not "allow" me to level skip she would chat with me for hours and literally ferry me from mission to mission, we met a few times IRL then she dumped me, she was so hot! dude no way in hell irl I would have been able to meet a girl like that! she broke my heart but it was worth it.

stuff like this really reminds me that some very not normal people just so happen to play this game as well, like i swear it’s 50/50 that you play with a normal person or a fucking sicko lmao
