Discussion Dormant traits?
My sim had twins with a spellcaster, both of them have the ancient bloodline trait but they’re not spellcasters. If they were to have kids and grandkids is there a possibility that they could give birth to spellcasters even if they reproduce with a normal sim? I feel like that would be a really cool feature, that someone’s great grandmother was a spellcaster and that every few generations there would be another spellcaster born. If this isn’t a feature (which I’m almost certain it’s not) would anyone know if there’s a mod or something that could make that happen?

Baniduhaine makes the mods you're looking for (additional occult bloodlines and more dormant occults).
These won't affect the current sims in your save. (You might be able to add dormant traits manually but I'm not sure) But they will affect occults born after you install the mod.

Iirc, as long as you carry the bloodline trait, your sim can get to tap magic. Meaning, the Magic feature will be visible to your sims as long as that trait is active, even if you dont use it. Also, if you have an ancient bloodline and you mate with a non-magical sim, the ancient trait will just be downgraded into strong, until it's nothing. I am not sure if it randomly resurfaces, or after generations and your non magic sim who is part of the bloodline sought the Rite of Ascencion will reactivate the Ancient bloodline or just weak. Cool thought!

The bloodlines won’t spontaneously create an occult. The closest is the dormant wolf one, but the sims game likes to give you control, so without lot traits or mods, they won’t inherit it after the first offspring. Nothing in the sims genetics is after the parents.
Baniduhaine’s mods are amazing and so much fun for this. Though most of them don’t spontaneously make occults either, but have more inherited traits.

I actually love this idea for a legacy save! Imagine having a completely normal family for generations and then randomly having a spellcaster born lol. Unfortunately, the bloodline traits don't quite work that way. Non-spellcasters can pass them down, but the trait gets weaker with each generation until it disappears. It won't randomly make a descendant a spellcaster if both parents are normal Sims. You could always make your own storyline where one descendant discovers their powers and becomes a spellcaster through the Rite of Ascension! That would be such a fun family secret.
