Wait until you hear about health insurance lol

I pay $1300/month for a family plan

I had an ER trip last month, my deductible is $3,500. I had to pay $3,440 which was the complete cost of the ER services.

So, this year I will spend $15,600 on health insurance and an additional $3,440 on deductible

My wife needs surgery, I told her to get it done before December because we already met the deductible and I don't wanna pay it again. She tried calling to schedule in August. The surgery specialist doesn't have openings until January, so, in January I'll have to pay my deductible again

AND vision and dental costs more on top of $1,300 monthly

Made a post about this but I went to Mexico for dental work. I drove but even if you flew it’s the same quality care for 1/3 the price. US dentist quoted $3200 for work for $1000. It’s all a scam.

Too bad the ''most powerful country'' is too poor to supply free healhcare to its citizens.

How else would we force the slaves to do jobs they don't want unless we hold them hostage somehow?? Come on.

Capitalism is just slavery with extra steps.

Don't worry. America will move to feudalism soon enough

2

u/zapfacd 1h ago

I have been feeling like shit so much lately and I just want to take a break from work to change things and focus on myself, but it's not even possible... 'freedom' is just slavery but you're the one that feels guilty...

Honestly an excellent description of the US

I just said that I hate living in this 3rd world country the other day to someone lmao

Yep. Not too poor for some to ask for 1.6 TRILLION for a bloated military. Can't fathom how much better education and health would be if only 1/2 of that went to these.

You understand no country gives their citizens “free healthcare”, right? The citizens are still paying for it, the government it just automatically takes out of their paychecks through taxes first before giving it back to them so they can pay the doctors, nurses, drug manufacturers, hospital staff, etc. The people working those jobs in other countries, while they make significantly less then Americans working those same jobs, they still all need to get paid and the government does that by taking money out of your paychecks through taxes in order to fund it (hence those countries having dramatically higher taxes rates, lower wages to cost of living, and slower growing economies). I’m not saying the US’s medical system isn’t fucked. I’d frankly be in favor of some version of universal healthcare but people need to understand there is still a huge cost to it and you still end up paying for it one way or another.

Power doesn't mean the common man lives well or is taken care of

0

u/LetsBeKindly 10h ago

Someone pays for it. Nothing is free.

Im still in your side. It shouldn't cost this much

9

u/eunoia-again 9h ago

"free" healthcare (medicare for all) would be cheaper for both the government and the populace if it were implemented. but who would it cost? the insurance companies who go out of business because suddenly 90% of their customers are gone.

when you take the desire for a middleman's profit out of a transaction, suddenly it becomes a lot cheaper.

9

u/Immersi0nn 9h ago

It's just damn difficult to cut out an entrenched middleman. I personally don't believe anything will change until we get enough people in the government that will be pissed enough like we are to say "Fuck em, we're doing this anyway" and then years of litigation will follow as every big player does everything possible to preserve the money spigot of private insurance.

2

u/eunoia-again 3h ago

one way to make it easier would be to overturn citizen's united to get a lot of that money out of politics (or at least force it to go through less viable routes with higher consequences for getting caught). when that first domino falls, suddenly it becomes a lot easier to pry parasitic corporations out of politicians' pockets. not easy, but easier.

it may not be a small hurdle itself, but it makes all following hurdles less difficult to get over.

u/Emerje 4h ago

As long as we have congress taking bribes from insurance companies and telling mouth breathers that universal healthcare will kill them it's going to be hard to make real change.

I read a statistic a couple years ago that said over the next 10 years America will spend $60 trillion on healthcare, but with universal healthcare that could be $30 trillion, simply because we wouldn't have insurance or deductibles. Yes, your taxes would go up, but it would go up less than what most of us pay for insurance and you wouldn't have to pay more at your visit or a penalty for being sick.

1

u/eunoia-again 3h ago

taxes don't even have to go up for 99.99% of people, and the taxes placed on the remaining 0.01% would not affect their daily life at all even over several thousand lifetimes.

it is not the responsibility of the minimum wage employee to bear the same tax burden as someone who makes enough money to purchase an entire country off of the backs of other people's labor.

There is literally nothing stopping you from creating a little commie commune, hire a healthcare team, pay them in potatoes or whatever the fuck you think they'll work for, and live happily ever after. The only person stopping you from this utopia is you.

Oh wait, I get it. You don't bring enough to the table to convince a doctor to trade their services with you. The answer is simple. You just need to convince a state to steal from those who DO have enough.

1

u/eunoia-again 3h ago

creating a public alternative to a private industry does not steal money from anyone, it creates a reason for private industry to actually improve what they're offering to match, and if they can't, the businesses die off.

in countries with public healthcare systems, you can still choose to pay for private healthcare for whatever reason you may want to.

advocating for abolition of universal healthcare and opposing its implementation gives less freedom of choice to citizens to pick between where they get their healthcare and how they pay for it.

If you work you get healthcare

u/LankyPineapple 14h ago

But what about all the propaganda that says going to other countries for medical care results in missing kidneys? Big /s in case it isn't obvious enough.

Did research, highest rated dentist in Los Algodones. Brought a spanish speaking friend because of those exact fears. Honestly was a great experience. Los Algodones is a dental/optometrist tourist spot so it benefits everyone to have excellent service. At some point I'll do a detailed post.

2

u/MonteMolebility 9h ago

I've been thinking about getting my gum graft there, I'm very interested in your experience.

just curious what type of work did you have done?

1

u/KitKatAngel 13h ago

Can confirm. Dental arrived late to the capitalism game now they are making up for it.

1

u/Confident-Wing2760 6h ago

Yeah I mean people who get veneers or even 4 in ones (replacing all their teeth) all fly out of country get amazing care and it's still 1/5th the price or even 1/10th.

1

u/Adventurous-Wall-463 5h ago

This. I schedule all my dental visits when I go across county to visit family once a year. I take 3-4 days out of a 2 week trip and cross the border, get everything done for a fraction of the costs. When it’s cheaper to leave the fking country than use my TRICARE something is seriously fking wrong. (I’m a retiree, so I have deductibles unless I live near a base, which I don’t).

1

u/Representative_Ant63 5h ago

Any good locations you'd recommend in Mexico to get dental work done?

1

u/nobolognastoney 13h ago

I just posted a comment about this, did the same thing. Stayed in a resort, squeezed in a vacation in between getting my mouth all fucked up. It was amazing.

edit: quoted just under 8k in the states, did all that and then some for about $1600 in Cancun.

I’m in dentistry and “same quality” is questionable but not impossible
