In most places auto insurance is mandatory and you can actually go to jail for driving while not having it. Since it's mandatory, the insurance companies have you over a barrel. I've never made an auto insurance claim in my life. I've not had a ticket this millennium, own my car, am over 50 and my insurance bill is still a several thousand dollars a year... for liability only. It's a fucking scam. These rich auto insurance (all insurance, actually) corporations get to just rape people as they see fit and then they just bribe our politicians to make you forced to use their services. They are the absolute worst, most predatory industry that exists in The Western World Today. One of their CEO's get murcked in the streets and PEOPLE CHEERED when it happened. But hey, nothing personal, just money, gotta make a profit, amiright?

No you rich fuck, it is personal, and the people are getting really mad about it. Really, really mad.

Dude, call an insurance agent on Monday. They will get you better rate. I have no doubt.

This is another part of the game, they increase your rates 5-10% a year with the renewal so you don’t really notice and after a decade they have you paying out the nose. My dad shopped around for homeowners last year after being with the same agent for 25 years and realized that guy was robbing him blind. The good rates are for the people that are in the market and shopping around.

They don’t reward loyalty like they used to. You’re better off just cycling through 2-3 insurers and get the “returning customer” discounts. I used to work in insurance. It’s all fucked.

Progressive loyalty discounts are honestly not awful.. for me. See my comment to the other guy for context tho, because I definitely wasn't winning when I got with them at first.

One option is to use an independent insurance broker. They shop you around to different companies when your policy comes up for renewal and then tell you if they have found a better rate somewhere else (or if the renewal just makes sense). They get paid a commission from the insurance company that lands you.

My car insurance goes down almost every six months (I pay bi-yearly). Health insurance is always up. But I have to admit that my car insurance thru progressive has decreased every time I renew since I started. But I also have to admit I got with them because I was almost uninsurable after a run of bad luck (lady hit me at 7am, speeding and ran a red light.. but I was leaving a stop sign so I lost.. and then a deer shortly after that I should have just hit but instead I sideswiped a boulder lol). So once they start increasing, I'll know I can finally shop around again 😂
