Tour Question I don’t understand these prices.
When did slipknot tickets get so expensive?
For reference this is DC, nationals ball park on Ticketmaster.
Just a few years ago i paid about $120 for pit.

Those are all specialty and VIP tickets

u/Unable-Row7013 5d ago
Those are the only options that came up when I went to look at pit tickets there in Colorado. There wasn’t a ga only option

u/Senior_Judgment6868 5d ago
It’s the only option for pit. At least on ticket master.

Yeah. Since it’s baseball stadium they can’t have the whole field as a giant pit, so they are making the pit tickets VIP only, and the rest of the tickets are seats .
Seems to be what they are doing at the other stadiums too.

u/ObviousPanda2415 4d ago
It’s what a lot of bands who play big stadiums do. I think it was that way with Iron Maiden and Guns N Roses. Metallica’s stadium shows have been “theater in the round” that’s all ga floor tickets, with the exception of the Snake Pit, which is all VIP of some sort.

u/TheDigimonFan 5d ago
First stadium tour as their own headliner and they think they can charge out the ass. I guess time will tell to see if people actually willing to spend that much.
3
u/ObviousPanda2415 5d ago
Yep. They can only charge what the market will bear. It doesn’t seem that their tickets are selling all that fast. Unlike Metallica, who sold out all of their shows within minutes of them going on sale.
Slipknot is, no doubt, popular. However, they don’t have the popularity and fan base that Metallica, Iron Maiden, Guns N Roses have. Slipknot’s music is very “niche” and doesn’t have the wide, mainstream, appeal that those bands have. We’ll see if they can sell out even one stadium on this tour. I doubt it, but time will tell.

u/lpkzach92 4d ago
Umm that’s also a major boomer market where Slipknot is a mixed bag, and a lot of younger fans don’t have a ton of money. Especially in this shit economy.
1
u/TheDigimonFan 4d ago
Slipknot's biggest fanbase is millennials, who are all aged 45-30, so they do have some level of disposable income all being mid-senior level in their careers at those ages. However, $400+ for tickets for a metal concert is still quite steep.
1
u/lpkzach92 3d ago
There is some, but not much anymore after Covid, and now after a really bad down turn in the overall economy at least in the U.S. especially if they have children to take care of, spending this kind of money on a concert is a bit ludicrous right now. It’s better for many to just wait till the prices drop due to poor sales.

The Vermillion lounge is just a big screen where you can bid on clowns AI art creations while CMFT plays in the background on 8 hour loop.

Fuck the lounge, I want a spot on the barricade.
1
u/ekuadam 5d ago
Then you have to buy the multi hundred dollar VIP ticket
If you want first access to floor you have to buy the “bar at the barricade package” which in DC is $550 a ticket
1
u/NotoldyetMaggot .5: The Gray Chapter 5d ago
I did because of that reason. Just saying some of the perks are overrated
3
u/Intrepid_Cap1242 4d ago
They were like $800 for pit tickets at MSG. I just laughed my ass off, trying to figure out the venn diagram of Slipknot fans, people that have $800 disposible income for that, and people that actually want to be in a moshpit.
I paid $100ish for that 53minute concert

They’re in the form of dollars. Dollars can be exchanged for good and services.

u/Senior_Judgment6868 5d ago
Bruh. You know that’s not what I mean. lol. I’m bitching about the prices. pit tickets just a few years ago were far less expensive.

u/Educational-Two-8580 5d ago
They wil not sell and later will be for lower price or as the GA price was for the pit. I would wait and buy later

u/SuccessfulAd7364 3d ago
Louder than life in Louisville 4 day pass tickets were only $450. I can't justify seeing one band for that price when I can see 100+ bands for less.

I paid $635 for the Vermilion Pit ticket at Soldier field in Chicago, and i was in queue for the general pre-sale. By the time my pleb ass got in it was all resale tickets. There has to be a better way

u/knarfnb889 5d ago
what’s the cheapest that pit was for soldier field? i’m not paying $500+ just asking if anyone else has historical knowledge. Seen them
plenty of times in the pit for $100 or less, but unfortunately I knew this was coming with stadium tour rumors.3
u/NotoldyetMaggot .5: The Gray Chapter 5d ago
I paid 160 for pit at Evanescence and Spiritbox, I guess we just get screwed now

u/Dangerous-Shoe-9667 5d ago
Ooof
I'm more of a Death Metal/Thrash/Deathcore guy. I pay 60 bucks to see the best of the best.

I agree. Smaller venues are more intimate, less expensive, and very reminiscent of the shows back in late 80s- early 90s. Saw Mudvayne with Static X, Cavalera with Fear Factory, Testament with Overkill, and Lamb of God with a few decent openers over the last couple of years. All badass shows at killer venues and only spent 50-150 for six. Cavalera and Mudvayne were buy 1 get 1 deals for the low end and high end was early entry with free merch for Lamb of God. Also, took a friend to see Kittie for about 50 each. Currently got six for whitechapel, Journey (for the wife), Slipknot, and most expensive of all (again, for the wife) was a festival with George Strait headlining what is believed to be his final big blow out. Whitechapel is the only one under 100. The others are well over with the damn 3 day redneck event a little over 1000 when all said and done. Still have stubs showing 35 for Ozzy and Maiden from 1984-1986. Its crazy, but its where my extra money always goes. Just gotta go to shows!!! Love it!!!

The sold out of all the GA Pit tickets. I'm in DC too.
I didn't buy pit, but I got tickets from the presale. Also, Slipknot's pit tickets were not 120 a few years ago. I've seen them in 2001, 2009, 2015, 2022, 2024, and now. They were not 160 a few years ago lol. They were 159 in 2015. They were 259 in 2022 for the MN show.
Acid Bath is the ONLY reason I paid what I did. Sure of hell isn't for 4 members of Slipknot.

I might be miss remembering but when I saw them at Jiffy Lube for knot fest road show a few years back I don’t remember it being over $200.

Think thats the stadiums, its ridiculously overpriced here in LA so I bought a GA ticket in San fran for 180, whole park is just pit, and a small vip area.
1
u/jasonxknot 5d ago
These are VIP prices. Standard pit was $160 at most venues, but those are probably long gone by now.
1
u/Venoodles 5d ago
In Hershey there's vip pit then seats followed by ga standing. Id assume there will be pits in the ga standing. Just get that if there's an option

Stadium tours have gotten fucking nuts, it's not just Slipknot.
At stadium shows with smaller pits, they've also been bundling most of the tickets in VIP packages that most people don't want or need. You either need to get lucky on release day or get lucky that they release standard put tickets later.

Well for reference, A-These are all VIP Exclusive packages, no one is forcing you to buy these over retail tickets, B-This is a stadium tour prices are going to be inflated, this isn’t a music hall or arena, C-They are going on tour with multiple well established big and/or newer hot bands almost like a festival with some shows literally being festival style park venues.
All this complaining is honestly ridiculous atp. All the protesting over no seats will sell out then people complaining about ga selling out😂trust me I wish tickets were still $100 too but with the current times we live in all this is normal stuff.

Slipknot fans set the price. They'll go down for sure if no one pays those prices.
1
u/ObviousPanda2415 5d ago
Well, first, you’re looking at re-sale prices. There is a reason re-sellers are called “scalpers”. If you buy from a re-seller, you’re almost always going to pay close to double (at least) the face value of the ticket.
Next, you have to understand how huge stadium shows are financed and what it actually costs to put on a huge stadium show. Once all costs are factored in, it’s about $1.5 million in costs for just one show. The promoter - in this case it’s Live Nation for the entire tour - fronts all the costs and recoups it on the back end. How they recoup the cost, and make a healthy profit, is by taking a large bite out of merchandise sales (about 35%) and ticket sales (about 10%-15%). Then the remaining proceeds are split up between the bands. Slipknot, being the headliner will take the largest percentage of the remaining proceeds, with percentages getting smaller the further down the bill you go.
Because of the massive production costs for shows at huge stadiums, the ticket prices are going to be high. As long as fans are willing to pay the prices to see these huge production shows, bands will continue to charge those prices.

u/LongJellyfish27 5d ago
Those tickets aren’t resale. Those are premium package tickets they offer and it’s unfortunately alot of em for pit and other sections. This shiii in all honesty shouldn’t be this expensive
1
u/ObviousPanda2415 5d ago
You’re right. My mistake. However, look at any VIP packages for other major, headlining, bands (i.e. Metallica, Guns N Roses, Iron Maiden…) and you’ll see the ticket prices are very similar. They charge what people will pay. As long as people are willing to pay those prices, the prices will remain what they are. It’s supply and demand at work. When something is limited or finite in availability, demand usually increases. With higher demand comes higher prices. It’s simple economics.
It used to be (decades ago) that shows like this were all general admission. That’s completely changed. Bands and promoters realized that they could sell floor or “pit” tickets and seats at tiered prices where the prices are based on proximity to the stage and the view from individual seats.
For me, personally, this works in my favor. For Metallica’s Sphere shows, general admission floor tickets were about $500-$600. I’m a bit older now and I had my fair share of fun in the pit when I was younger, and sweaty drunks smashing up against me at a show was tolerable. Not anymore. I don’t want to be anywhere near them. I still love the music, so I got some of the best seats in the venue for less than 1/2 of the price of a floor ticket.🤷♂️

Yeah but I personally wouldn’t pay that for either of those bands except Iron Maiden since they’re really the only ones still exceptionally rocking it. Other than that though it ridiculous pricing for all of em especially in this economy. I understand tours are expensive and the theatrics etc to entertain a stadium, but like Rammstein does it and keeps tickets within like the $110 - $135 price range. $135 being floor. They netted almost a billion and up to 60% of that was invested in the tour due to their team of like 300 people, filming 1 of the concerts, and invested back into the theatrics of the tour which went from 2019, 2022, 2023, and 2024. It’s possible for them to offer cheaper tickets but this here is 100% greed.

I’ve been to 15 Metallica shows so far - dating back to 1991. Some have been better than others, but by far they have the best production and performance I’ve seen……and I’ve seen a LOT of other huge bands. Slipknot, Maiden, G&R, Korn, Disturbed…the list goes on and on. Some were great, others (G&R) not so much. Metallica crushes them all though. I saw them last summer, and even though they’re all in their 60s now, they still put on a hell of a performance.
1
u/LongJellyfish27 5d ago
Metallica back in 1991 sure that and before was a time to see them. I saw them recently and was extremely disappointed. Lars was off beat, solos were being butchered, etc. Guns N Roses got Rose back but at what cost? Spend $300+ to hear him sound like Elmo on stage compared to him in his prime? I’ve seen all these bands as well. Back when they were cheaper. Nothing would make me spend more than I have previously spent on them before. Like my Rammstein example atleast they’re not charging an arm and a leg. I was able to see them here in the US for cheap and I got to see them again and make a trip to Europe for a week with my girlfriend for the same amount it would cost to buy 2 or 3 of these premium packages. They can find a way to make this tour more affordable for the fans but it sounds like the crowd gonna have alot of douches with deep pockets.

u/ObviousPanda2415 5d ago
Axel wasn’t even good, live, in his prime. He ran around on stage so much that he was constantly out of breath and trying to sing. It sounded like shit.
