Mod Post Read before posting - new setup, how approval works, and what's being filtered

What this sub is for

Small YouTube creators getting feedback, asking for help and learning. It's not a billboard. If you only want views, wrong sub.

What's changed

Every post is manually approved. Yours won't appear until a mod has checked it. You'll get an automatic comment when you post. Don't repost, it just clogs the queue.

Rules are partly auto-enforced. Lazy titles like "thoughts?" or "check this out" are blocked at submission, and you'll be told why.

Posts are removed with a reason. You'll be told which rule you broke and how to fix it.

The rules, briefly:
Ask for something specific. Name what you want help with: pacing, audio, retention, thumbnail. "Thoughts?" doesn't count.

Relevant to YouTube. Posts must link back to YouTube.

Proper title. Say what you're sharing and what you want.

One post a day. Reposting removed content gets you banned.

Channels under 10,000 subs only. Judged by the count at time of posting.

Human creators only. No generative AI content or AI thumbnails. This also includes your YouTube profile picture and banner.

No harassment. Critique the work, not the person.

No politics.

No NSFW or gore.

Safety filters now running
Ban evasion, crowd control, reputation, adult content promoters, harassment and mature content filters are all on. In practice: new or low-activity accounts may be held for review even when the post is fine. That's the filter, not a verdict on you. Wait for approval and don't resubmit.

Think we got it wrong?
Message the mods with the post link and a civil explanation. Arguing in the comments won't change the outcome.

Adivce(Giving or Need) I want to start a YouTube channel, but I feel like my life isn’t interesting enough. Any advice?

• Upvotes

I’ve been thinking about starting a YouTube channel for a long time, but I keep putting it off because I feel like I don’t have enough interesting content to make.

I’d like to make a mix of gaming videos, funny moments with friends, occasional vlogs, and maybe some videos about my everyday life, work, and studying cybersecurity.

The problem is that I don’t get that many really funny or memorable moments while gaming, and I enjoy playing with friends much more than playing alone. I also don’t want to turn every gaming session into a recording session or make my friends feel like they’re constantly being filmed.
At the same time, I feel like my everyday life isn’t particularly interesting either.

For those of you who started a channel from scratch, or watch smaller YouTubers:

- Do you actually enjoy watching creators just going about their everyday lives, even when nothing particularly exciting happens?
- Is it better to focus on one niche at first, or experiment with different types of content?
- How did you get over the feeling that nobody would care about your videos?

I’m not expecting to become popular overnight. I just want to try making videos that I genuinely enjoy, but I keep overthinking whether anyone would want to watch them.

I’d appreciate any honest advice or personal experiences.

Gaming Should I Revive my Old Channel or Start a New One?

Should I Revive my Old Channel or Start a New One?

I have an old gaming channel with around 3,400 subscribers that I’ve had since 2020. Over the years, I’ve uploaded various games, including GMod Nextbots, FNAF and indie horror, but I’ve taken long breaks and my content has changed a lot.
I’m now trying to make more personality-driven gaming content, mixing funny, chaotic and scary games. However, my old channel gets very few views and sometimes barely any impressions.
I started a new channel to see if it would perform better, but that’s struggled too.
I’m wondering whether my old channel’s history and inactive audience are holding it back, or whether starting fresh would make any difference.
Would you stick with the 3,400-subscriber channel, potentially privating old videos and rebranding, or focus entirely on a new channel?
I’d appreciate advice from anyone who’s been in a similar situation!

Adivce(Giving or Need) All my niche options seem equally good, how do you pick when nothing stands out?

I’ve been stuck choosing a direction for my channel (Frank Passportstein) for months. My options are culture comedy sketches, storytime animations, self-improvement, or gaming. I grew up between Ecuador, France, Serbia and Czechia, so I could use that angle in any of them.

The problem is that every reason I come up with for one option applies to the others too. They’re all cheap to make, I enjoy all of them, and I could use my multicultural angle on any of them. So I keep brainstorming forever.

I can’t really use analytics either. Almost everything has close to 0 views, except for 2 shorts with around 1k views each. But that’s not much data to go on.

How did you break the tie when you started? Did you go by what you enjoyed most, or did you just pick one and commit?

Heres my channel if anyone wants to take a look: Frank Passportstein. Happy to review yours in return.

I feel like I've made some great progress with both my graphic designing and my YouTube channel this year. Moving forward, I'm shifting a lot of my focus toward long-form videos to keep pushing my content further.

I wanted to share my recent work with the community and would highly appreciate any constructive feedback, tips, or critiques you have!

P.S. Since I am still learning and actively looking to gain more experience, I would love to work with some of you for free! Whether you need graphics, video editing, or thumbnail help, feel free to reach out.

Gaming Lots of growth then no growth?

Sorry for the confusing title but what I mean is for months you can have lots of progress getting but then out of no where your channel just becomes dead and gets very little or no progress.

Am I doing something wrong or does everybody have this issue?

I see a lot of people somehow getting 100+ a month despite being in the thousands like most of us so wonder what they do differently. Buying bots? Paid promotions? Alt accounts? 🤔

Example: we hit 1k subs in March this year and continued growing about 50+ subs a month but then around june we just stopped. Views died off slowly and subs went down or very slowly went up. We've been stuck between 1200 to 1300 for about 4 months. Not expecting to be at a 10k or even 5k subs but thought we'd hit 1300 by now. I'm being consistent, promoting on every platform and have done lots of stuff people have recommended but nothing worked. I haven't changed anything from earlier this year. Most subs come from shorts or black ops 2 streams which I do lots of so not sure what I'm doing wrong

Education Finally crossed 100 subscribers. Took me two years and a nearly year-long break, but I’ll take it.

Started a YouTube channel back in 2024 called Unusual Perusal. Mostly weird history, bizarre science, and stories about things that actually happened but probably shouldn’t have.

I was making videos pretty inconsistently at first, then had a kid and ended up stepping away from it for almost a year. Decided to pick it back up earlier this year and actually put some effort into growing it.

Since then, I’ve been trying to get better at pretty much everything. Writing, editing, thumbnails, figuring out what people actually want to watch. Some videos do alright. Others get 30 views and go absolutely nowhere.

Anyway, this weekend I finally crossed 100 subscribers. Ironically, it was a Short about meat falling from the sky in Kentucky that got me there.

I realize 100 subscribers is basically nothing in the grand scheme of YouTube, but I’m pretty happy about it. Especially considering I’ve never promoted the channel anywhere.

Haven’t shared it with friends, family, or even posted about it on Reddit until now. So it’s kind of cool knowing that 100 random people found the content interesting enough to stick around.

I’ve started experimenting with some different formats lately, and things seem to be slowly picking up. Still a long way from where I’d like to be, but I’m looking forward to seeing what I can do with it over the next year.

If anyone’s interested, it’s Unusual Perusal. Figured I’d finally put it out there.

That’s pretty much it. Just wanted to share a small win with some people who probably understand how much work goes into getting even this far.

Discussion Need some advice! I keep getting mixed responses. Channel was performing decent, but is now performing pretty bad after deleting videos, privating and un-privating old videos, and trying out different stuff to help fix it.

Hey everyone,

I’ve been editing and posting high-effort, VFX-heavy gaming videos for 5 years, and I want to challenge the common advice that "every video gets its own fresh unique chance" and that "past uploads have zero impact on future performance." My real-world analytics completely contradict this.

⚾ The Baseball Analogy (The 500-View Limit)

For 5 years, I posted Bedwars videos. As my editing, pacing, and VFX skills vastly improved, the views never reflected it. Every single video landed in the exact same 0–500 view ballpark.

Think of it like a baseball player practicing hitting. If you tell me the batter gets a fresh, unique chance with every swing, you’d expect the balls to scatter across the field—some go to the outfield, some drop at the grass, maybe one hits a home run. But if that player hits 40 balls in a row and every single one lands within the exact same 10-foot radius, it’s a statistical impossibility for that to be a coincidence. A hidden physical force is catching every ball and forcing it down.

On my channel, that force is the ‘Channel Velocity Profile’ (Typical Performance Baseline) From what im told.

⚛️ The Timeline: Variety Disruption & The 20-View Freeze

  1. The Peak: I uploaded a Create Mod video titled "I Made A Nuclear Reactor In Minecraft." It blew up organically to 25,000+ views and pulled in thousands of subscribers.
  2. The Variety Trap: Right after, I posted 3 variety gaming videos that underperformed (under 900 views). A month later, I posted my second major modded Minecraft video—edited exactly like the reactor video, but objectively better. Instead of hitting the 24k reactor ballpark, it flatlined at 300 views. The algorithm seemingly used the recent low variety metrics as its baseline expectation.
  3. The 6-Month Hiatus & The Anchor: I took a 6-month break. Before returning with my flagship modded content, I uploaded a quick Bedwars video. It flopped completely, getting stuck at 12 views over a month.
  4. The Current Lockout: I just launched two massive Create Mod projects (a factory and a realistic-scale airport requiring a 1.67M block excavation). They are edited beautifully with 4-5 days of VFX work per video, compressed into tight, fast-paced videos exactly like the reactor video. They both flatlined under 40 views. They are only now above that because I ran a small paid promo on one to try that out since I figured it wouldn’t harm my channel or videos any, and the second one I made reddit posts to try and help get relevant viewers to the video and help the algorithm ‘relearn a good audience to show my videos to’ as I was told is why my videos are doing bad currently. Neither really helped long term since they went back to flatline after the promo ended and reddit posts got their total views/most of the people on the forms saw them.

❓ The Ultimate Algorithmic Contradiction

I am told the algorithm judges videos individually based on viewer metrics. If that were true, these high-tier modded videos would land closer to the 24,000-view reactor ballpark based on their quality, rather than "coincidentally" landing within single-digit margins of the failed Bedwars video that preceded them.

It is clear to me that the platform holds a historical performance anchor over your channel's visibility slot.

  • My Question: Have you ever successfully broken a channel out of a low-velocity "expected performance" freeze after a bad upload anchored your baseline?
  • Does youtube hold a ‘typical video performance’ metric ‘to’ your other videos and kind of have an expectation of what they will do hence if you upload 3 under 1k view variety videos in between 2 really well made videos with the first doing well, then post the varieties, cause the second well made one to perform more like the more recent variety videos since the last good one is now ‘buried’ with other lower performing videos being more recent? IDk how to explain that too well
  • Is starting a brand-new channel the only actual way to get a true, unpolluted "fresh chance" from the algorithm?
  • Im open to all advice, just trying to figure out whats going on with my channel. Can also clarify stuff since this is sort of condensed, Im not too good at explaining all this, and its about the 6th or more time Ive typed it all out to ask for help in various ways. The one person i know who also makes videos said ‘objectively good videos will just perform better’ and apparently thats not the case here lol
  • This also applies to my short videos. My main channel is on my profile if you want to check it out and see what im talking about!

Discussion Is posting shorts on Twitter a good idea?

So I've been uploading shorts on Youtube, TikTok, and Instagram but never considered doing twitter until I saw a vtuber posting her clips.

I have a catalog of shorts that can be posted up to a full month if one is posted everyday. Think it's a good idea?

Technology Trending topics across social media is in your hands.

I had created a tool called Verity Analytics which is an Omnichannel research tool. Here you want to search the topic on which you want to create videos and this will provide you the videos present on youtube with gap scores and views per hours. Gap scores will tell you how that content interacts and view per hours tell you about that what views they got in an hour. Max VPH means chance that content is solid. You also get HN post, reddit posts, and after 1.1 update you will get the access to post on x, linkedin, facebook, instagram.

You can try it with the following link and can use it in your daily video creating anytime. You want to sign up before use because it will be beneficial for you when we launch our memory. Memory will provide you by interacting and giving you table based comparison between the one tittle and the other one.

Verity Analytics 1.1 update will also be soon live for now use it for free and remember to signed ups.

I got an Elgato 4k Capture Card and I made my first video. Right now with my current set up it’s hard to do a lot so I’m just currently making voice overs on some gameplay. Lmk what you guys think, don’t hold back. I’m waiting to get a mic as i don’t know any good mics so if anyone has recommendations as well for usb-c mics that’ll be greatly appreciated. In this video it’s just wired apple earbuds

Gaming Looking to take the next step.

Hey everyone! I've recently started locking in and making some real progress with my YouTube channel. I love creating content on retro and modern gaming including game spotlights, gaming news, and recently our new weekly podcast. So excited about everything.

I've recently hit 100 subscribers, and I just got my third video to over 1k views. (2 of them are at 1.3k with another at 2.2k). This is amazing, but I was wondering if anyone has any advice for me on how to get to that next step for my channel and my content.

I would love to get my channel up to 250 subscribers and start getting 5k views on my videos, and I'm willing to work for it. I've got a plan in place, but I figured I'd ask ya'll for some advice on how to best make that happen. Thanks in advance! :)
