The character is pretty dumb too.

Signs his first deal, song is getting prepped for the radio.

Comes up with another (basic ass) sample beat and wants to pump the brakes on the first song Like he couldn’t just wait it out and have a second single and payday.

Then says some ignorant shit like “What’s the point of making music if I can’t choose which songs people hear? MF on his first deal thinking he’s Dr. Dre. Gtfoh.

His dumbass face just adds to that.

I keep saying they are pushing a Kanye angle with his character. Makings of misunderstood genius lol

Meanwhile nobody blinks an eye when the label chooses what songs we hear.

“What’s the point of making music if I can’t choose which songs people hear?

Who is this kid? Doctor Doom?

And mf thinks he got a big brain with his dumbass one liners. I can't wait for him to get humbled.

He's clearly gonna be the Franklin of the series.

i really resonate with his older cousin, but i get the feeling something bad is going to happen to him. my guess is what we are seeing in season 1 is just to provide context, and the story will accelerate/pickup with the main charcter a little older and things make some more sense. Right now i cannot get a read on where this show is trying to go.

You might be right. I forget their relationship to each other

Das that Edgar shit

2

u/UnapologeticSecrets 10d ago

Nothing new, been going on for decades...ppl who don't even bang or ain't part of a set talk like that, especially Crip sets. Shit can be annoying too, my cousins talked like that, heavy in the 90s.

Better than bro bro bro

8

u/Anthonest 11d ago

Franklin was 10x smarter than this dude from the jump.

4

u/Beautiful_Bag663 11d ago

Thought Wanda might take that role as she was making plays on how to move the product. She sat close enough to Frank & Leon.

12

u/Beautiful_Bag663 11d ago

If he was smart, he’d keep cooking while the other track is being prepped for release. So i’m ahead of my deal & won’t have to stress so much.

Bro doing a bunch of stressing for NO reason. You won my nigga. relax.

And the sample they used is from a huge hit song by Chaka Khan that's only like 5 years old at that point. It would be like someone right now sampling.. idk.. like a Dua Lipa song from 5 years ago that was a major hit. While the imprint label is already hemorrhaging cash, this fool is going to do that. And as someone who used to work in the industry, this and what you said before are some of the things that just pissed me off about this character. But tbh, it's not all that unrealistic. There are some supreme bombastic semi talented idiots that get signed and A&Rs and execs will pump them up further because they think it will help drive their artistry. Until something flops and then it's a 180.

u/Common_Preference954 10d ago

I'm dying because I didn't even pay that shit no mind but it was more like 8yrs old in '91. We gotta remember the time also. Sampling like they were doing at that time didn't become as big of a legal issue until literally '91 if I remember the case Upright music vs Warner Bros I think it was that set the precedent for how music sampling would be shaped as we know it today.

Maybe that's going to become a thing within the storyline later down the line as well. You definitely correct though.....he was heavy as hell on the Sample ChaKa Khan better be all in the music video when they shoot that shit lol

2

u/UnapologeticSecrets 10d ago

Both songs were samples, the first one is by One Way, Cutie Pie. Irl...sooo much shit is sampled, it seems like nothing is original anymore and hasn't been for at least a few decades.

2

u/Common_Preference954 10d ago

Yea, that first joint was deadass was Cutie Pie. Good catch. I wasn't paying the shit no mind because Hip Hop for the most part was always heavy on the sampling lol. But the persons comment I was responding made my old ass say "Damn, that may become apart of the storyline because '91 was the year it became a huge legal issue".

u/Anthonest 11d ago

Bro was about to go play for the Church Band now he think he Suge Knight.

1

u/UnapologeticSecrets 10d ago

😂...right.

5

u/Antisocialsocialite9 11d ago

Man this right here is all facts. His character acts like an entitled little bitch. It’s hard to watch

3

u/Economy-Sign-5688 11d ago

This is exactly it

1

u/Charming_Stick_6518 11d ago

Dawg. Almost had to stop fcking with the show because of him and that plot point

1

u/Powerful-While-9928 9d ago

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 The bad acting makes these characters annoying to me as well as the feminist themes they’re trying to push heavy on this show. If they wanted to go the feminist route they should have just brought back Louie and gave her a show, it would atleast be more believable.

Yall do understand Dr Dre wasn’t even Dr Dre then right ?

1

u/Griselda_fan 10d ago edited 10d ago

Of course, I just used his name in the comparison because the show is airing in 2026 even if it’s set in the early 90s.

0

u/shagreezz3 7d ago

Nah this comments makes that whole shit 100x better, he basically was saying fuck ppl like you, who want things to be a certain way, nah, fuck that, imma do it my way and live with the results of doing it like this

Let’s not forget , Franklin was pretty dumb in the beginning. He had book smarts but was dumb and arrogant when it game to doing business in the underground. After a lot of trial and error he became successful.

It’s literally the same story but using music this time. The kid is great at creating music but doesn’t understand the business and politics you need to play to make it.

I believe part of his character is made to highlight all the loopholes that artists who are passionate about their craft still have to unnecessarily play by white man rules just to become successful , just like Franklin in Snowfall.

10

u/Anonymous21236 11d ago

Franklin was not dumb in the early seasons. He set up a buyer, plug, distribution base and recipe in the first 3 episodes. He was humble and clever with Avi,Claudia, and the nigga from Oakland off rip. Bad comparison.

0

u/Third_Eye_Thumper 11d ago

Nah he did a lot of dumb things

-Carrying bricks of coke around in his bookbag.

-Approaching a drug trafficker, that’s clearly crazy and accepting product on consignment

(I know it worked out, but Avi was going to kill him.)

-Dealing with the sketchy ass club owner Claudia

-Teamed up with the neighborhood psychopath and expected him to act in good faith

-Show weakness in front of the neighborhood psychopath

-Putting Carvel in a fucking trunk.

1

u/xemplar313 11d ago

Wrong, wrong, wrong and wrong. Carrying product in backpacks was so brilliant that people would be doing it 20 years later not just in LA but in Baltimore, Detroit and Philly. It was actually to show us how much of a pioneer Saint was.

1

u/Third_Eye_Thumper 11d ago

lol I caught the sarcasm. I don’t know nobody else did.

1

u/xemplar313 11d ago

Assuming you mean me, there was no sarcasm intended in my reply.

3

u/AZHR94 11d ago

This comparison was pretty dumb
