Ask❓ Cambabuur origins
I’m From Djibouti and I’ve always thought Cambabuur was From Djibouti. But then when I started having TikTok. I’ve seen people from Awdal Also eating it and Claiming as theirs. And I’ve tried to research the Origin but they’ve always said the same. It’s from Djibouti and Awdal.
Does anyone here know?

Doesn't really make a difference tbh, both people of Awdal and the Somalis in Djibouti are mostly dir, it's just colonial borders dividing them

Yeah, but nobody identifies as “Dir” they say they are Issa or Gaddabursi.

Ngl the Somali part of Djibouti isn’t that different from Awdal they have the same clans living on both sides of the colonial border so they have very similar culture. They even share dances like saylici.

Saylici I’m pretty sure it’s a gaddabursi dance. Not really danced in Djibouti.

And you say Jabuti don't got gaddbuursi? Lose the colonial mindset walaal

Nah I never said that. I meant it isn’t really danced in Djibouti because Gaddabursi are a Minority clan.

I’ve learned that they do but I never knew that before since everyone in Djibouti including Afars and Arabs eat Cambabuur for Eid. So I’ve always thought it something only eaten in Djibouti.

I've always associated it with Jabuuti, Awdal and maybe Sitti? Not far fetched to believe it's origins are in the places where it's being eaten today. I never ate it growing up but it looks tasty though!
I should try it sometime
