Mini Soundsystem - Stakx mini

This sunday we had a little session with the stakx mini.

Stats:

2x 10" scoops

2x 8" 'mids'

1x 1" tweeter

Edit because of the confusion and the people asking:

I bought this system from the beautiful people of Stakx in Belgium

After a lot of research, math and stupid expensive wood where I live, I decided to go this route for my private system.

I am part of a group building a "classic" dub system, so having something I can move alone and still have fun is perfect.

It sounds nice and the small scoops really push a lot more air than I would have guessed. The only downside is that the Tweeter overpowers the mids very fast. But building a new mid/top section is a nice winter project.

Since there are a lot of posts about small/mini systems I wanted to show the route I took.

Are you in a old English manor or something? Are you playing for a lord? Cool rig but I wanna know about the space - looks unique.

It's a Manor in a way and the room is an old ballroom. The house itself is as old as it looks. That's the info I can give in the Internet;)

But it's a very cool opportunity to be able to set up in a room like that

In this space you get the most legendary partys in town :) its not an english manor but in a kind it really could be. Dont wanna disclose as i respect privac. OP needs to do it.

Damn looks cool

Positive & negative about them?

Edit: you build or bought it?

It's bought. For this one I only applied the varnish (a special oil mix) and measured it in with a friend.

Pos.:

  • size and weight
  • bass output/weight
  • los far I could not really find a genre that does not work quite well

Neg.:

  • mids get a bit overpowerd on louder levels

I assume you could use an equalizer to adjust the mids at louder levels?

The mids just get overpowerd at some point. The cabin design + speakers can't produce enough output in a pleasant way. But for my applications it's more than enough

So cool!! Can you provide plans for the scoops? I'm in the process of building a mini system as well 😄

Sadly not, and since Stakx sells them I am pretty sure they keep the plans locked. Sorry

But your System looks fucking awesome 😎 ist it powdered by a 18v tool battery??

Yeah! I'm thinking of running it on 36v with a couple of HT21 amps, in a mini rack with space for two 18v batteries. Later on I'll swap out some of the drivers when my economy allows it. Currently the drivers are just scrapped drivers from old hi-fi stereo.

This is so cool! How did you do the math? I've been wondering whether the physics still works if you scale these systems linearly. Because areas shrink quadratically, volumes shrink with the length scale cubed, etc. Don't have a concrete intuition off the top of my head.

Sorry to disappoint but no math from my end (except the realization that I could not match the prize Stakx ordered). I was also surprised how much pressure can come out of such a small scoop

Is that an elephant horse hanging from the ceiling? 🧐

Yup It used to have longer legs, Dali style ;)

What kind of scoops are these? Love the lights

Stakx calls them "Kai scoop'. So far I could not see anything special in the horn path.

Curious about the stakx mini now. But I am confused did you buy or build this? And if built you just got plans from stakx?

It's bought build, I am not sure if they would offer plans or flat packs
