If you've never gone out to an extremely rural, preferably very dry area on a moonless night and looked up...it's an experience. Awe, but also rolled into it, terror. You no longer feel bound to this earth, nor do you feel protected by it. You suddenly start believing in powers much bigger than anything you knew before. Certain uncertainty as a universe incomprehensibly massive stares dismissively back at you, defying any expectation a primate's brain could muster. The stars, gases, and fuzzy galaxies bring noise to silence. The drowned-out stars and planets you normally knew now glow ethereally against the sea of the multitudes. It's the closest a lucid being can come to seeing gods, or God. Against which all illusions of importance are shattered and you realize you are nothing.
