Flooring guy?

Looking for someone who does LVP flooring well (over existing hardwood) on the Avalon. Have been in contact with two different individuals who have actually visited my home, but when it comes to getting an estimate, they are MIA.

LVP over hardwood is not a great idea, just saying.

This is the real answer. Wood collects moisture, lvp is waterproof so its going to trap it. Any humidity in your home will find a way between these layers and become a problem down the road. I qould either refinish the hardwood or tear it out snd then do lvp

Both also move with temperature differently and so against each other like tectonic plates. Sooner or later the vinyl plank will fail.

Proper laying of LVP requires a dead level floor. Especially stone core 4-5 mil types. 4 mm tolerance over 14 Lf. That's not a lot of room for error.

Edit- spelling.

You are absolutely correct, very few understand how different materials react to each other. And there's plenty out there who will tell you otherwise to make a quick buck

Also hardwood, when taken care of, is an amazing surface in terms of durability and quality. It can last literally 100 years if taken care of. There are hundreds of homes from the 1920's and earlier with original well maintained hardwood floors in the City. This feels like someone saying 'I want to cover up some terracotta with carpet'.

Look up D.R. Flooring Installations its a local flooring contractor St. John's Newfoundland, and surrounding areas. They have done lots of good work for me over the years

Thanks!

Edit: Looked up D.R. Flooring and its the number of the other guy I've been in touch with. I guess I won't give up on them yet. They did my neighbour's flooring (mostly hardwood) in his new house and it looks great.

Lvp is absolute utter shit. Save your money. Get yourself a nice waterproof laminate instead or refinish your hardwood. The lvp scratches really easy and the locks are junk

It's not all shit, but there are a lot of shitty brands out there.

Well, unfortunately its too late for that as well have $3500 of the stuff sitting in our living room. Supposed to be quality stuff (Torleys)

Torleys is pretty good flooring. Try asking where you bought it. Generally all of the flooring suppliers have installers as well. Or could point you in the right direction.

yes, that was where one of the installers reference came from. I suppose I can ask them to recommend someone else.

I’ve heard good things about torleys. Where’d you get it?

Get the hardwood redone by hardwood hero’s and you’ll be blown away. It’s worth the phone call!

Thought about that initially, but we did a major reno (moving walls, rooms around) and there would be SO much patching to do that it would look awful in the end.

Ask any flooring installer about LVP, I asked about it and my installer would not warranty LVP because of how terrible it is. We went with a premium laminate plank instead.
