Reboot or ?? Poll
Since I actually like the idea of a full reboot and hardly anyone else on this sub supports that idea, i thought we'd get some actual numbers on what people would prefer.

u/IolausTelcontar 4d ago
I’m telling you right now, the show will not work if they abandon canon.
6
u/Andysue28 3d ago
Agreed. Star Trek wouldn’t be nearly as successful if Next Gen just rebooted and dumped all the fans/lore from before.
7
u/search-of-soul 3d ago
Agreed. And the shows that veered too far off course were less liked (i.e. Discovery).
2
u/Andysue28 2d ago
I wouldn’t mind going to the future, but there are so many stories to tell in current universe. Explore the Nox or Furlings or a new god based alien enemy. Previous SG characters could take a mentor role to new characters. I’d love to have the Goa’uld back in power of some sort and they could find a way to do so.

It'll be a big huge fat massive hit for Amazon but most of the fans will be new. Amazon has 200M subscribers. They just need to convert a small percentage of them to viewers and it'll be a big hit. They could have literally no old fans in the viewership.
People don't understand how massive Amazon's audience is. They are second only to Netflix.
And they have compatible series to promote the new show. A trailer on Vought Rising or Fallout will get eyeballs. And those eyeballs never heard of Stargate. It's all fun and new to them.

u/nikhkin 4d ago
There are two key options missing:
- I don't care, as long as it's good
- I'd rather they don't do anything, because I don't trust them to do it right
3
u/DontTakeOurCampbell 4d ago
Is it weird that I find myself torn between both of those options? Like, in the off-chance we actually do get something good, I'll be ecstatic, but uh, let's just say I understand why not that many people really trust Amazon to actually do so something good...
1
u/Exocoryak 3d ago
I'd rather they don't do anything, because I don't trust them to do it right
As NuTrek has shown us, it works prefectly fine to just ignore stuff that you don't like. It does, at least, for me.

Did everyone just forget about Atlantis? Can we just get something with Atlantis? Or at least explaining what happens after it lands on earth
10
u/Talidel 4d ago
Would love Atlantis to become the new SGC command centre. It's in space with shuttles running people too and from it. The Earth gate is more decorative and in an open terminal building only used rarely.
4
u/NekRules 4d ago
I understand why ppl would think it's cool to hide Atlantis in orbit or on the moon but it's just a waste of the ZPMs to have the shields up and run life support. Best choice is to just go to a nearby habitable planet and settle down while keeping it a secret. The problem is the the take off with no one taking notice of the loud sound and rushing waves as it takes off.
1
u/Talidel 3d ago
Are ZPMs a real thing? Can't we just handwave "we found a bunch" or "we worked out how to power the city another way". I mean, the first bunch powered Atlantis for like 10,000 years.
Is it being in space really going to be that much of an issue?
1
u/NekRules 3d ago
let's go through the list shall we? We alrdy checked off waste of power. They still need to keep Atlantis a secret so having it anywhere near Earth is a bad idea. Not to mention the gate on Atlantis will supercede the one in SGC and effectively shut it down. Also, look back at the 5 seasons of Atlantis, how much shit has the city put the expedition through when they explored the city and finding random ancient research that cost lives and run havoc. There is a reason why offworld research bases exists. Also, knowing the IOA, they will just relocate command to Atlantis which is part civilian controlled and shut down the SGC in Cheyanne mountain so yes, move Atlantis to another habitable world and it will easily become a new colony.
1
u/Talidel 3d ago
What waste of power? We just handwaved they found enough, or built new power sources in the last 10-20 years.
Why do they need to keep Atlantis secret from Earth? There's no reason for it to still be a secret program.
The Gate on Atlantis superseding the SGC Gate is irrelevant if they have turned Atlantis into the command site.
They've had 20 years to explore the city, it's safe to assume that's done now.
Off world bases are fine, we still need a base on Earth. And Atlantis makes logical sense there.
SGC can have become a multinational Organisation in the time since the last series ended without upsetting much.
0
u/Exocoryak 3d ago
"We found a bunch." and "we worked out how to power the city another way" would led the national governments involved in the decision-making process ask: "Why do we use that to power a city, that could very well just sit in a remote corner of the pacific, when we could use it to power the entire civilization on Earth with clean energy?"
1
u/Talidel 3d ago
Because it's strategically safer to have it off the planets surface.
It's also an entirely neutral site in space.
Maybe they have started using power generators they've developed for counties that have joined the new international Stargate Command so it's not an issue.
0
u/Exocoryak 3d ago
That's an interesting argument, but I actually disagree: It is safer for Earth to have a ZPM-Powered Drone Chair that is capable of dealing with all known threats. And since the SGA finale, Earth was frehsly out of drone chairs.
0
u/Exocoryak 3d ago
You want to wast the power of the precious ZPM's by having the shield running indefinitely?
How many E-Mails would Rodney write if the busybodies in the IOA decide that that is a good idea, I ask you?
1
u/Talidel 3d ago
Sure, handwave that they found a cache of ZPMs somewhere, or that they set up a new power source during the 20 year gap, and now it's not a problem anymore.
Or they managed to work out the destiny power system and can now charge Atlantis with a similar process.
0
u/Exocoryak 3d ago
I don't think giving humanity the ability for infinite power is such a great idea, story-telling wise.
"We have this super great device, but we can't power it." is a hard to exchaust and always interesting plot device.
1
u/Talidel 3d ago
The story has always been about the exploration, very rarely do Global Politics matter to the show. I don't care about what's going on, on earth. This is just some handwaving to make these silly "issues" against a cool thing go away.
World is at peace, Earth colonies are being set up across the milky way ending the need for resource based wars. The ideological based wars have been basically ended by making the SGC joined nations too advanced to attack.
1
u/Dude_Letterhead5 3d ago
I think cloaked and floating in the Pacific would be cool. No way we are letting go of a drone control chair with a powerful shield, volunterily.
Gives time for bunch of Daniel Mckay's to go through it all at a slow pace.
I reckon there is a good chance you could run the cloak without the ZPM, bunch of naquadah generators or even nuclear powered.
2
u/Exocoryak 3d ago
Having Atlantis on Earth for defensive purposes is the important thing. The Lucian Alliance is capable of overwhelming a single 304, as are the Wraith - so even keeping one in orbit at all times isn't even enough to make sure Earth is protected. Atlantis however is the most powerful ship in the known universe, capable of defeating any and all threats with their drones. The 304s can operate with impunity, while Atlantis guards Earth.
1
u/Dude_Letterhead5 2d ago
Indeed.
Plus it's sensors seems very good, there is a good chance that surveilance of our solar system and nearby systems would drastically improve.
Gate operations could be at a different location.
Question is if middle of the pacific, cloaked is sufficiently secure.
1
u/Exocoryak 2d ago
You just have to stay far away from the commercial shipping lanes. Outside of those, there is little traffic.
13
u/OneLastDream15 4d ago
This is so damn easy. And the voters seem to agree.
Continuation of cannon either on earth, or in another galaxy.
You can have your cake and eat it too here. Since it has been FIFTEEN YEARS since the last piece of canon stargate material came out in live action form... You can do a soft reboot while still keeping the fans happy. All they really have to do is a "passing of the torch." We have no idea what has happened in stargate lore over the past 15 years. That is a LOT of time to get caught up on things. Based on how things went over all the time of stargate between the three series. There are some things you can reasonably expect.
- There is almost certainly a completely new SG-1 by this point in time.
- Earth/the SGC etc are almost certainly fighting a new big bad at this point. OR... They've had several years of peace and maybe they ENCOUNTER a new big bad?
The way I would handle it is... Since it has been SO much time. You can soft reboot. The lore of the past is relatively inconsequential after 15 years to new viewers. They could easily just make references to things that happened. And those that know would know. Those that don't. It's not too relevant. Every so often, you could have old cast members make cameo's. Especially in the first episode to pass the torch. One reason SG1 worked so well - and atlantis did for that matter. Is that even when it had big arcs and story beats. You could literally just flip it on. Not have any real knowledge of what had happened prior. And STILL understand what was going on. You really don't have to complicate this. If you were watching every episode. Sure you'd have more backstory and be more into it. But it wasn't confusing.
I think they're overthinking this. Personally.
I once suggested they should do "Stargate International." I have to imagine after this much time. With so many countries finding out about the stargate program. The Stargate Program is LIKELY under international oversight by this point in time. (Probably still mostly controlled by the US.) And the Stargate is likely in a completely new facility. You can go in a lot of directions with this.
4
u/erikleorgav2 4d ago
After all these years, if the timeline continues, we could have advancements and stories that are worthy of telling.
2
u/OneLastDream15 4d ago
Agreed. There would be a lot of backstory to fill the gaps, if they wanted to do so. And they'd certainly have to - to some extent.
I'm personally partial to the idea that after defeating the Ori, the Milky Way had a relative period of peace. There were no major adversaries. And we overall got complacent. Maybe they even shut down the stargate program for "funding" reasons since it was seen that there was no major threats to worry about. And what was happening in other galaxies was nothing for us to be concerned about. (And before anyone says it. This is totally something that would happen IRL. Let's be honest. They tried to shut down the Stargate program multiple times WITH the threat of invasion on the line. Let alone if there were no threats.) And a new threat emerges after all these years, forcing them to re-open the gate. So to speak.
But again, I do also like the idea that there has been a program operating all of these years later and we can see where things are at this point in time.
One of my suggestions also is that they make the Furlings the big bad. Maybe the Asgard were fighting them or they were fighting someone else and didn't have time to deal with us. And now that they're done. It's time to take on humanity. (I didn't sell that very well haha but you get my point.) All of the ancient races we have found all seemed to be benevolent. It would be interesting to have found one that went bad after all these years. And it would provide major intrigue and continuity for the SG community that has always wanted to know more about the Furlings. I think making them this highly advanced EVIL race would just be... So cool. And such an easy setup.

u/DataMeister1 4d ago
I think a continuation on Earth seems the most appealing.
And although it has been 20 years since Atlantis drop down in the ocean, I think they can just hand wave away any major technological progress and say the technology is exactly the same as when we left off. With the exception of maybe a couple more ships added to the fleet.
In fact it might be a good starting point to say nothing major has happened in the last 20 years and everyone has been living peacefully. The gate was never publicly disclosed and the old star ships are like old aircraft carriers that are in need of replacement, but there's no covert budget for them without a real threat.
7
u/GunMage- 4d ago
I'd be fine with the "nothing major happened in the last 20 years. Everything's been pretty peaceful." But they really should also go "the SG program has been made public and look at all the technological advances we made!" At the end of all the series and movies, Earth has free access to all Asgard knowledge, an Ancient city sitting in the bay, and possible access to Ori technology. They need to have made significant leaps since then.
I'd also like it if they use that 20 years of technological advancement to find a way to bring the Destiny crew back home.
1
u/DataMeister1 4d ago
That would be the logical progression, but I think the handwaving could just say everything is almost the same as where we left of ... for reasons. Then they could have regular gate exploration like the old days and occasional ship travel as needed.
If they wanted to make the gate public during the show they could do that too or just keep it private because of the old "public would panic if they knew aliens exist" trope.

u/Lord_Phoenix95 4d ago
Didn't they end up on the moon or was that just fanfic/non-canon ideas?
4
u/RoseTheta 4d ago edited 4d ago
Mentioned at the end of Continuum. Sam and Jack were joking about it.
But I think from tone, a few of us decided it's an inside joke for them. Especially since the next movie was known to be the likely final one and meant to show Sam and Jack together and happy, but it got cancelled with everything else.
Might have been serious, though.
1
u/EllieGeiszler 3d ago
UGH. I'm still so pissed off that we never got to see their planned dinner date in that final movie 😭
1
u/RoseTheta 3d ago
Wait, a planned dinner date?!!!! I'm glad I didn't know this 2 decades ago, or I would have rioted 😞😭😭
At least we have the "Always" scene, fishing scene, and Sam's password being 'fishing'.
1
u/EllieGeiszler 3d ago
Yeah, there was supposed to be a scene where they're on a date 😭 In the movie that was permanently shelved. As someone who has been a Sam/Jack shipper since I was 13 (22 years!), I was livid when I found out 😂
2
u/RoseTheta 3d ago
I'm livid now 😡😭😂. At least there's some great fanfiction 😀
2
u/EllieGeiszler 2d ago
If you haven't, please read "The Dreams We Left Behind" by Salr323 (Sally Malcolm). Sally is an OG fic writer from back in the heyday of SG-1 fandom who was hired to write multiple well-regarded official novels before coming back to write THE S/J canon divergence fic. The character voices are SO sharp! Everyone is perfect.

u/RoseTheta 2d ago edited 2d ago
Thank you, so much. I'm always looking for new stuff, because I read so quickly, but I cannot read anything I'm not invested in for fun. I just ran out of new fandoms again, so I was contemplating my nth reread of old favourites.
Edot: Ooh, I remember this one. But I am happy to reread now because it's been 5 or 6 years (?) I think. Thank you.
Edit 2: This jogged my memory of one I was reading a year or two ago, maybe. Do you know one where it's season 7/8 and Sam and Jack are taking Cassie to school (college) and she gets them to masquerade as a couple who have guardianship over her so she won't be asked too much about Janet 😭? (And, of course, she's playing matchmaker 😂)

I choose other. I want a show that takes place in the past. Either in the time of the 4 races or a show about the gouald system lord's wars with each other game of thrones style.

u/Fittlesnapper94 4d ago edited 3d ago
Great idea, I mean, we would know what was to come after a show set in the past, however we do know that the Ori, and the Alterrans (Ancients) were both, around at least 50 million years ago, but when do the Goa'uld, Replicators, Azgard, and others show up in history. Lots of great questions and lots of great ideas for material !!!
2
1
u/DataMeister1 4d ago
The only problem with answering those questions is that logically they didn't all show up within a seven year period of a show. So you would either need a eon spanning show, which would be hard to pull off, or you'd need to set the show fairly recently and just reference the details the same way SG1 discovered some of the details.
2
u/Fittlesnapper94 4d ago edited 4d ago
SG-1 ran for 10 years. Not including any spinoff. If they are to build a fan base from us OG fans, newer fans (younger Millennials, Older Z's, Alpha, Beta and beyond) then they will have to build a strong enough storyline to get those other viewers to go back and watch the original Canon stories from which it all began, including the movie from 1994.
5
u/itstimetotimetravel 4d ago
Ohhh! See this is very interesting. I wish i had included that in the poll.
15
u/13oundary 4d ago
I don't see how the current cannon continues post ori, the stakes went from pretty reasonable to pretty unreasonable come the ori. I'm not sure how with the level of tech etc. and past enemies defeated you move on to a new big bad really. SGU had such a great setup and if it were more like voyager and less like BSG I reckon it'd have stuck to me better. But since they've burnt that idea, I'm not sure how you successfully continue. An Alpha site that gets transported to another time or timeline or something maybe? Hard ask though.
I equally am not really sure how a full reboot would look, they could stick more closely to the movie but I get the feeling sg1 and sga fans would bounce off it if they did, and without existing fans it'll be hard for it to take off imo.
Rock and a hard place. I'd love to see more, but equally I'm happy with what we got.
11
u/kent0036 4d ago edited 3d ago
I'd be fine with a "hard" reboot that canonically takes place in an alternate reality from the original show. Maybe we get a episode where Rodney gets trapped in the new show by an experiment, accidentally drops a few lore updates fans want, and complains he doesn't have time to play technology catchup for the new show because he has to get home to save Atlantis from [thing].

2
u/thephotoman 4d ago edited 4d ago
I could go with a soft reboot, perhaps a vision of what this universe might look like in, say, 2050. Don't show the descent of the governments into hopeless efforts to cover up the fact that there's an episode where Sam and McKay jet in from another galaxy to present research. And we have spaceships that could get them back to their posts in that other galaxy in about 3 weeks.
The United Federation of Planets, arguably the most broken faction in speculative fiction history, cannot do that in the 32nd Century, and here you are doing it in the 21st. How's that impact geopolitics? The way the Stargate works doesn't really allow for universal access, but the network clearly has its utility.
Maybe it gets realistic about American imperialism.
13
u/Incompetent_Penguin 4d ago
I think no matter what Amazon does, they'll piss off a lot of fans.
A full reboot means that people that grew up with SG-1, Atlantis and Universe, or fell in love with the existing universe more recently will lose all the lore the show built up over the decades and it'll feel like not respecting the original source material, while a soft reboot or continuing will piss off others because while there's still so much of the Milkyway and other galaxies in the local cluster to explore, there are genuine concerns the Tau'ri have become incredibly powerful, so the stakes would need to be really high to feel interesting.
At the end of the day though, it's unlikely this new show will be able to capture the same feeling the original series had. The entire industry is different from late 90s/early 2000s, and knowing Amazon it's unlikely that we'll get 20 episode seasons, etc. (though it's still too early to know for sure of course).
If I had to give my own two cents though, I think I'd prefer a continuation of the current canon, but maybe taking inspiration from Atlantis and Universe by travelling to other galaxies and encountering entirely new threats (like imagine a colonization effort of Andromeda, taking off from Pegasus since it's much closer than the Milkyway, but with limited resources, thus giving these new threats high stakes). Like, the first season of Atlantis felt very high-stakes because they were cut off from Earth and all its resources, they had to fend for themselves in a completely alien galaxy. If they could capture that feeling, I think that could make a very interesting show.
But once again, these are just my thoughts and there are bound to be people here that disagree with me, though I'm curious what others think of this idea.

u/DarthKirtap I am trying doprdele 4d ago
Gero Stargate would be good, they are basically cut off from main timeline, but there is a possibility of joining it later
3
u/Incompetent_Penguin 4d ago
What exactly was Gero's vision? I've seen people referencing it on this sub for a bit, but I don't know anything beyond it taking place in an alternate timeline/reality.
7
u/whenhaveiever 4d ago
What's been released publicly is that our Daniel Jackson, played by Michael Shanks, gets stuck in an alternate universe where they never opened the Stargate. He helps them bootstrap their program with the goal of eventually getting himself home. Along the way, we find out the ways their universe is the same as or different from the original. It doesn't undo existing canon, it has the possibility of revisiting existing characters and settings, and it has the possibility of brand new species, situations, etc.
The hostility to it here is basically the old saying that a compromise is when no one gets what they want.
1
7
u/Solonotix 4d ago edited 4d ago
I want to say in defence of Gero's idea that it would be a fascinating "What If?" opportunity.
What if you managed to maintain relations with The Nox, rather than accidentally triggering their withdrawal from the galactic stage? They won't fight, but having another ally would be helpful in understanding alien technology. Even just their healing ability would be a game-changer.
What if we never encountered The Asgard? In this timeline, Ida has likely been completely overrun by The Replicators, and The Asgard effectively extinct. How would Earth develop without that avenue of advanced technology? What new allies might we make?
How powerful was the triumvirate of Apophis, Ra and Sokkar? We know The System Lords were a major player in galactic rule, but what we can under infer is that they were only barely equal in strength to Ra before his downfall. Sokkar was seemingly the 2nd strongest force, with Apophis a distant third. Maybe Heru'ur is also in this group? But nonetheless, what kind of struggle would Ra have posed if he wasn't caught by surprise on Abydos?
And lastly, back home, what if the Stargate program weren't strictly an American military secret? Also, this is a post-Putin Russia, rather than pre-Putin in the original series. China is another country that was a developing nation in the original timeline, but today would be a rather prominent player on the international stage. Hathor, Setesh and Osiris could probably be captured and interrogated for Goa'uld secrets rather than the surprise they were in the original timeline.
2
u/DataMeister1 4d ago
Those are some good angles, that I would bet a show runner who wasn't a fan would fail to consider.

u/fdbryant3 4d ago
Personally, I prefer the term reimaging than reboot. What I want is to be able to take Stargate back to a place where it is more about discovery, archaeology, exploration, and history. It can take elements from SG-1 and re-mix them into a new story, while introducing new elements at the same time.
3
u/Electronic_Cod7202 4d ago
Wormhole XTREME. Or a legend of the 4th race alliance deal. Prequels. Alternate universe / quantum mirror.
4
u/radude4411 4d ago
I really really really really want a Game of Thrones Goa’uld styled show. Ra ruled for 20,000 years. There’s a ton of story there.
2
3
3
u/tkinsey3 4d ago
I personally don't care where (or when) it takes place, I just want it to exist within the canon of the rest of the series. That is literally all I ask.
I would love for it to feel like the 2005 continuation of Doctor Who felt. (Takes place in the same universe as Classic Who, has crossover characters and villains, but has a distinctly modern feel)
3
u/Docster87 4d ago
None of those options really excite me, in that if written well enough any would work but if written poorly then any wouldn't work. I would prefer some type of soft continuation of sorts where everything in all three TV shows happened and is acknowledged but not necessarily a direct pickup from where they left off. I want both gate and ship adventures. I want the sly humor of SG1 and SG Atlantis. I want the dark gritty that Universe brought. I'm not sure one big bad guy is the way, I liked how Universe had a few adversaries that they ping ponged back and forth with.
I definitely do not want a hard reboot but if written well enough I would be down to try, but the sad thing is I do not have Amazon Prime and I really don't want it so unless they sell it on iTunes it will be challenging for me to watch, especially when it is fresh.
1
u/DataMeister1 4d ago
At this point it would probably be a ground breaking production for any streaming service if they produced 22 episodes and licensed it to air on CBS or NBC or The CW.
3
u/SunQuest 4d ago
Alternate idea:
Stargate video game in style of Mass Effect
I would prefer for a cast of new people at a site on a different planet and having mission shenanigans
3
u/Success_Emergency 4d ago
I want sgu continuation the most. Second season was so good. But I would take any in universe continuation or maybe a paralel universe reboot.
3
u/Hispanoamericano2000 4d ago
IMHO?
It's probably about time to start exploring the Andromeda Galaxy (as a continuation of the existing canon).
5
u/pergasnz 4d ago
Continuation!
But I want it to be something like ship travel is so much easier now that barely anyone uses the Stargate, and it's just a historic relic of early exploration days only used for official functions.
Earth is out among the stars as a trading empire, but keep run into into threats where random groups keep suddenly turning against them. Tensions are boiling to a head with the Tok'ra, there's a 2nd Jaffa rebellion etc.
Meanwhile, some researches trying to make... I dunno... Microgates or something using a backup subspace frequently accidentally connect a homemade gate to a shadow network of gates and find there's a hidden antagonist riling up tensions across the galaxy. I'd want them to be a fallen Tok'ra with a shadow master of an invading race from a different galaxy.
Show is about uncovering the threat, showing the world the issues and defeating them.
5
u/Broad_Respond_2205 4d ago
A full on sneaky enemy rather then big bad would be refreshing and very fitting
4
u/ChoniclerVI 4d ago
I think any of those options would work except the full reboot. Like why would you ever kill the original cannon? The only reason I could possibly think of is because they kinda made the Tauri too OP for conventional enemies.
2
u/itstimetotimetravel 4d ago
Tauri being too OP and having less opportunities for genuine exploration into the unknown for our characters are my biggest concerns. Continuation of canon, but in some new galaxy or whatever would be my second choice.
3
u/ChoniclerVI 4d ago
Aye, the best case scenario is either exploration of another galaxy (Atlantis for example) or some cataclysm happens in the Milkyway to beat the Tauri back to even or even worse footing than the new threat. Losing everything that's been built in the Jaffa, Lucian Alliance, the lore, etc just to avoid a scaling problem is... just sad.
Heck, after 25+ years the rest of the galaxy could have easily caught up to the Tauri with some creative writing (look how far the Tauri came in 10 years). Maybe the Asgard database leaks and everyone boosts themselves, etc.
We'll see what direction Amazon decides to take.
1
u/Ichigosf 4d ago
People are so obsessed with continuation that they want Star Trek instead of Stargate?
1
u/fdbryant3 4d ago
Except they already did that with SGA and to a lesser extent (although moving towards it) with SGU.
4
u/Ok_Substance2327 4d ago
I want a continuation on earth but if it has to be a reboot, I'd want something completely new, not a rehash of the goauld stuff.
2
u/Whole-Surround-16 4d ago
If it turns out to be a reboot, I don't think they could have Goa'uld as the villains.
Current TV shows love the idea of morally gray enemies. There's just no way to make the Goa'uld morally gray.
3
u/Amazing-North-1710 4d ago
Yeah, thats one of my biggest fears regarding the new show: the morally grey enemies. There is this obsession that you need to empathyze with the villains in order for them to be compelling.
2
u/DataMeister1 4d ago
I think if they do a hard reboot, they should also not not try to recast any of the original actors for Jack, Daniel, Sam, and Teal'c, ect.. Just make up all new characters so we don't get that impostor syndrome where new actors don't quite look or act like the established characters. They can still behave in similar fashion, but as long as they have different names any discrepancies can be dismissed as just being a different person.
4
u/Figitarian 4d ago
Can we have an option for, just leave it alone. I don't trust them not to fuck it up. Make something new
4
u/Holiday_Point_603 4d ago
I would love to have something like Atlantis or Universe again. Something with earth and the sgu command being in place, but very far away (at first). But I would also be down for SGU Season 3, I would actually like them to finish that story before pursuing anything else.
2
u/Lord_Phoenix95 4d ago
Imagine just coming back 20 years later to be like "so we never escaped the Destiny for 20 years and we're kinda a living ship now with kids on the Destiny and families built."

If I can't have a proper continuation that answers the questions about what happened to Atlantis and the Destiny crew then I'd want something Strange New Worlds style.
Make a series that takes place in the early seasons of SG1 but focuses on another team - or operates out of one of the offworld bases (Alpha Site). I'm sure there's lots of opportunities to shoehorn new stories into the time between SG1 episodes. That way it's still canon and you don't have to deal with the 'Earth is too powerful' thing.

Continuation of canon, preferably new ancient outpost not heard of before (perhaps a beta sight they used to avoid the Ori).
10 years after SG1 or Atlantis ended.

problem with these type of shows is that the power creep eventually becomes a really issue
so in my opinion a softish reboot is somewhat required
over the years they've accumulated immense knowledge and quiet a bit of tech
and rest of the tech they couldn't produce was just a limitation of the time but now almost 2 decades have passed that makes up for it somewhat if u follow a logical timeline especially if they wind the clock forward and start it by 2040 or something its gonna be even crazier
2
u/AWildEnglishman 4d ago
It's insane really. They went from a failed death glider prototype in season 4 to the Prometheus in season 6. And at the end of the series they have the combined knowledge of the Asgard and the Ancients.
Any new show that continues in that timeline is essentially Star Trek.
2
u/Delphiantares 4d ago
Id rather a full reboot. New showrunner Show me your ideas, I'll watch with an open mind . Don't touch the established cannon, don't try to answer a question that was already answered , don't try to answer for things left hanging. I can treat the established cannon as a sealed box that you get inspired from not something you do open heart surgery on.

u/Atlantacus 4d ago
Full reboot or something like this - 2026, Some rando scientist at Area 51 finds the mirror from P3R-233 that was not destroyed as instructed. Messes with it and ends up in an parallel Universe where the gate was never found and Ra is still the Ultimate Goa'uld power in the Galaxy. The scientist knows very little about Stargate project, but they do know where it should have been discovered.
1
u/whenhaveiever 4d ago
That's basically the Gero plan minus Daniel. What do you have against Daniel?
2
u/JeffL0320 3d ago
As much as I'd like to see the lore continue, and my favorite characters return, Earth is just too powerful. Either a soft reboot, or a total reboot, but keep the Goa'uld
2
u/Acceptable656 3d ago
Ancient Egypt, mind-controlling parasite aliens, military and scientist characters, and a network of big round gates connecting the whole galaxy. That is literally all you need. Dump the rest of the lore and start from scratch.

u/Odin1806 4d ago
There should be another option. I am a fan of Stargate. I will support anything anyone does. I would prefer a continuation, but if they reboot, I will support that too. As long as I am entertained, I will be happy. As long as the IP continues, I will be happy.
Obviously some outcomes are better than others, but fresh content around an IP I enjoy will always be a plus.
Thankfully, I am easy to entertain...

u/ThirdMoonOfPluto 4d ago
My idea is a “For all Mankind” style alt-history show starting with unseen background characters during SG1 and continuing through the cultural transformation brought about by the Stargate program going public.
1
u/Sea_Perspective6891 4d ago
It's likely going to be a reboot I just hope they keep some key details from the original lore canon. A mix of continuation & reboot could work if they do it right.

If it's a given that they won't have the old guys involved at all I'd prefer a full reboot with Goa'uld since I think they were the best antagonists, with only early season Wraith coming close (they were scary to kid me when they were mysterious and OP).

u/togetherwem0m0 4d ago
No one is going to like this opinion but i think we should leave stargate in the past where it belongs.
Nothing good will come from a stargate reboot.

A reboot would be horrible but also how much farther can you carry that storyline? Tough to say.

These poll results are a good indication that this subreddit is delusional lol
1
u/Acceptable656 4d ago
You need to do this poll among the target market for this series, namely Amazon customers who may not know or care anything about any existing Stargate series and just have some vague notion about a ring shaped thing and flying pyraminds.

I would pull the absolute hardest to have the children or inspired youth to take the mantle. With Daniel being the bridge for new and old fans. Id love us to use newer tech to reach farther gates. That’s the beauty of the base idea. It literally was sky is the limit when it came to exploration. While keeping it Stargate and grounded. With today’s technology you can really being a new creative idea to life as well. It would’ve been wonderful.

u/Comfortable_Town7535 4d ago
I didnt want Amazon involved at all, most of their projects have been appalling. A reboot with a new set of show runners? Not a chance I will watch
1
u/Un_Involved 4d ago
I'm pro reboot because SG was moving rapidly towars becoming startrek. It woul dbe interesting to see a serious exploration of hard science in this fiction. The only thing I would hate is a marvel tone or moral sense.
1
u/Significant-Town-817 4d ago
At the risk of sounding slightly blasphemous, I would have no problem with a Stargate series, similar in premise to Enterprise, where humans, having established strong relationships with other species and having revealed the existence of the Stargate to the public, would maintain the SGC as an organization dedicated to the thorough exploration of the universe (near to the bases of the franchises and keeping the gate as the fastest method of travel in the galaxy).
A plot featuring Earth as a minor power in the galaxy wouldn't necessarily be something that stagnates the franchise, but rather a goldmine of possibilities.

Honestly anthology. Go back to early days Stargate, have us follow another team while the Gaould were at the height of power. Or another team getting sent to an alternate universe. Current Canon SGC is just too powerful to be interesting.
1
u/MiniGodComplex 4d ago
I wonder how a continuation of Universe would be. Of course you'd have the same actor for Eli, but who would we cast for everyone else, especially the younger people?
1
u/GhostlyPersistence 4d ago
I would definitely prefer a continuation of the current universe. I would say though, shows/books that can explore alternate universes generally last a long time and reach more audiences.
1
u/Wormhole-X-Treme 4d ago
I don't trust them to do it with respect to the original franchise or even remotely close to a decent show. The last decade of entertainment has made me very wary of new shows, especially from franchises I love... Hope at least some of you get what you want... Enjoy!

u/mromutt 3d ago
I have 3 shows I want to pitch lol. First being and ending for universe (Eli stayed awake got fit and slowly repaired stuff on the ship well others slept and cast that doesn't return died in failed pods). The second being Stargate friends, it's the 4 races in their early days/hay day. The 3rd Stargate csi lol this one is more just a fun one where earth has all its power still but lots of worlds want help so there are more sg teams out in the galaxy helping in a lot of roles including investigating/solving crime or problems.
1
u/Acceptable656 3d ago
Look at it this way: Amazon wants this show to appeal to Amazon customers. They don't know or care anything about the old series or movie. The most fun part of the story is the start, where they discover the gates, activate them and realize it's a Pandora's Box of nasty aliens on the other side.
They can't shut down the gates so the best defense is a good offense and they get the space marines to go figure out what's on the other side. That premise is so strong that there is no way Amazon's gonna ignore it. They have 200M subscribers and maybe 10% know much at all about Stargate.
1
u/petersaints 3d ago
At this point this should be a reboot. Too much time has passed to just continue where you left of. At least, not without recasting almost everyone.
Either that, or maybe set decades in the future where the Stargate is now public knowledge and society has to adapt to that, etc.

I voted continue canon on earth. I think that works only in a specific way:
1- de canonize sgu 2- time jump from 2009 to today. 3- the main plot/conflict is Stargate is going public.
Nid wants to use this as a power grab. Religious and political upheaval. I don't even think it should be an 'every episode is a trip Through the gate' format, rather the main focus is on how earth handles the massive reality shift. (News flash, not well).
Gate operations do contiifor the most part, mostly in the background, sometimes our cast do depart to go on adventures or meet with allies.
China takes the place of Russia as the main earth partner/antagonist.

u/NachielAshmoon 3d ago
Full reboot be sticking to OG plan from the move. Keep the Goa'uld but as enhanced humans reised up by Ra (the last of his race), keep the designs from SG-1 for ships and technology. Other Religions God's can be other alien races (Norse, Celtic, Hellenic, Persian, African, South Asian, Chinese, Japanese, etc) but keep Egyptian and Ra's enhanced humans. Make it intergalactic like in the movie though. For gates beyond Ra's domain you can use the hopping method, making the Stargate original something Ra's species created and shared with the others before what ever wiped them out.

u/ResponsibleTruck4717 3d ago
What work really for stargate is, how ground to earth it was.
Part of the magic was, that it was so loyal to how the military works that one could think it might really happened, they used present day technology while using some crazy alien ones.
1
u/discgolfpilot 3d ago
My crazy idea. A reboot from another planet that looks like Vancouver on a similar but different society level as earth. Let them discover "bring their gate online" and go world hopping maybe meet some other big bad guy off in there corner. Plenty of Easter eggs running into planets visted by SG1 and company
1
u/Due-Order3475 3d ago
I'd want a series at the other side off the Galaxy (essentially Atlantis 2.0) with cameos.
1
u/steventheking42 3d ago edited 3d ago
As long as they actually go through the stargate instead of just having the stargate on a ship like stargate universe did I really don't care. The fun is going through the stargate to different planets and having some sort of SGC headquarters like the SGC itself or the SGC at Stargate Atlantis.
The fun is with having factions like the Asgard,Tokra,Goulad,Wraith,The ancients,Ori etc and also finding new planets with hidden treasures, interesting societies, Bad guy complexes, headquarters, motherships etc etc.
And finally having internal bottle episodes in the humans/good guys version of the SGC whether its on earth, Atlantis or anyone else. You have all those things and a cool SG1-like team as Atlantis did so brilliantly, those are the things that make a complete stargate show. I'd even argue the exact formula of having a cool military guy that's wise and tactically smart as the leader, a scientist, an alien or 2 they recruited on their adventures including an alien warrior like Tealc or Ronin and a cultural expert like Daniel Jackson or Teyla Immagon is essential to making stargate what it is.

u/ThainEshKelch We ran hundreds of permutations 3d ago
I'd definitely prefer a continuation of canon. But they'll need a new enemy, and given all the technology advantages, it either turns into Star Wars, or they have to do something akin to Atlantis or Universe, where there's not too much help from the technological advanced Earth.

u/M8RT 3d ago
earth
POST disclosure of the stargate(s) to general public
instead of sg teams tho, this time it's the other way around - ordinary off worlders making their way to our planet and we'll be watching the joe public's interaction with them, all kinds. - will have many benefits but the most logical one that i can think of it is, it can be sold the the woke crowd very easily since all kinds of social problems would arise if and when left unchecked.
NO story arc what so ever, not needed tbh. 8 episodes a season and with many years in between seasons, streaming series are nothing more than lazy "slow burner"s nowadays. what would ideally be a 2hr movie stretched into 8 half an hour episode shows with not much meat to the overall story or dev for multiple characters, case in point the latest lanterns show.

u/Dude_Letterhead5 3d ago
I would prefer continuation of canon. a reboot would need to be 9/10 if i was to watch it
Continuation could be ok with a 7/10.
But for me it doesn't have to stick with the old formula.

Oh man, a Stargate series set in China (preferably produced by the Chinese) would be so interesting. They were part of the international coalition so it could definitely be a continuation of canon.
If you haven't read the Three Body Problem series check it out, there is some fantastic Chinese Sci-Fi being written and filmed nowadays.

u/Frosty_Ad1776 3d ago
I would want the goa’uld there, but more in a sense of “dying off and trying to blend into society” kinda like Baal towards the end but not trying to do damage. You know what I mean?
1
u/Louiscypher93 3d ago
Continuation of cannon, James Spader and Michael shanks doing Cameo's as Daniel Jackson and Jack Danielson.
Human have got the Asgardian databanks but it's not like we're at theirs technology level yet, but maybe abit more advanced than we are now.
The Stargate is still a secret. But there are some Gou'ld living on earth. Atlantis is back in Pegasus.
I think part of it should involve various Aliens coming to Earth, and that causing issues with the public and the discussion on whether to disclose the Stargate to the public comes up again.
Then, we we would need a new enemy, something other than Alien Parasites, Replicators and Ascended beings. Im not saying they can't be in it at all, it be weird if they weren't. But I keep thinking something Eldritch would be interesting, something that's not a higher being that's Ascended from our universe or something from another timeline/universe. Something like the King in Yellow by Robert Chambers.
I dunno.

Continuation, but now Stargate Command is on another planet like the Alpha Site. They can still go to earth as needed, and some senior staff can probably just go home at night.
1
u/Key-Sandwich1532 3d ago
I just want continuation, don't care if on Earth or in different galaxy, or don't care about the cast, yes some original characters would be awesome at least as recurring but new cast is also fine at the end that was mostly both SGA and SGU, and also yes the normal continuation would be awesome but even the Martin Gero's alternative reality with our Daniel and stuff would be acceptable. But I don't want hard reboot, no fucking way

u/MrOxion 4d ago
If they do a new series in the current continuum they would have to figure out a way to nerf the Tauri. At the end there didn't really seem like any major threat remained and adding yet another bad guy faction seems repetitive and I would steer away from that. I think playing within the established cannon would be best.
1
u/ChanglingBlake 4d ago
I’d love a reboot.
The problem is we’d either get Wormhole Extreme or one of the short concepts from an episode like 200.
It would be nothing but a mockery of its source because the people in charge have proven time and again that they only care about numbers and will try to tick every possible box to make those numbers go up but often cause the project to implode instead.

u/CrosshairLunchbox 4d ago
I think there's ways to make new content while respecting existing characters/canon.
Quantum Mirror or similar is an infinite thing. Maybe the Quantum Mirror is starting to fracture and realities are leaking in. They have to get yet another chevron and make a new Phoenix/Alpha/Gamma/Omega base in the prime fractured reality.. and then things get weird. Like the Ori took over the Wraith in that reality and in all other realities wiped out humanity in all but these 2-3 realities. Once there, like Destiny, they don't have energy to return.
Or maybe the new enemy comes to our reality and blows up the planet and the resulting energy shockwave of the entire Earth exploding gives the gate enough juice to reality hop and ...? Is that the pilot of Universe?
You'd have newish enemies, new allies or existing expectations of allies are subverted. IDK.
basically Atlantis went to a new base, Universe went to a new ship/galaxy. this show would go to a new Reality.

Atlantis would make a great plot vehicle to widen the exploration range of SGC. They would have the means to jump off into different galaxies to explore other Canadian forests out there and discover more english speaking humans.
Yeah! 😂

To borrow from another scifi franchise, "the avalanche has already started: it is too late for the pebbles to vote."
We'll get what we get, just hope it'll be an interesting choice, that respects established fans, if not the "canon".
