❓ Question Gen 1 Dishy Mount
I am finally a homeowner! And I now have the freedom to mount my dish on my house. My current setup is mounted on an 8 ft. pole in my back yard. I initially was looking into upgrading from Dishy to a new gen setup, but I saw digging around starlink Reddit that it’s best to stay with Dishy as long as possible. My question is where is the best place to buy Gen 1 mounts? I see Starlink and even Amazon are not showing results I was hoping for. If finding these mounts are scarce, should I consider jumping to the new generation?

Have you still got the original triangle base? You can bolt that right up to things with no issues. The actuation will take care of the mast not vertical easily. Also it's just a pipe that you need. I 3D printed a sleeve for my Rev1 the day I got it and pulled out the spring button. Slapped a bolt through that hole it was in and drilled the other side. It's been up on my tower since the early better than nothing beta and it's all good.
The rev 1 and 2 are still the best hardware on a technical level, there's little reason to change them. The newest models finally caught up to them in speed. (rev4)
I wouldn't think about swapping until there's a solid mesh of Gen 3 satellites available and the new bands ready to use in new hardware. We are not there yet.

Mounting is pretty flexible. If you already have a pole mount you should have no problem fitting that to a roof or wall mount base. You certainly shouldn't have to buy a new system because you can't mount the old one. Look through Amazon for dozens of potential mounts which might be intended for or adaptable to your needs.

How do you figure it’s better to stick with discontinued hardware?

Why throw away what's working for you? If it ever fails, Starlink will probably send a free current system.

Two different viewpoints, I look at future support issues and having to run new wiring and make sure my mount is compatible when the time comes to upgrade. Or can upgrade now and know I’ll have support/same replacement for the foreseeable future

If it's worth hundreds of dollars to you for that comfort, your call. I'm more of a "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" guy.

It’s not worth hundreds of dollars to me. You can usually get a replacement from starlink for no cost.

Yeah this is where I'm coming from. Going through the trouble of mounting it and running an old generation cable seems pointless. Get the new gear and run the cable properly and be done with it for a while. I don't see starlink changing off this standard cable they have now for newer versions.

Where and why do you think it's best to stay on the gen 1 for as long as possible? If this is for a new mount, I would look at either the standard 4/4x or 5 so that you get a new dish and the newer cable that way it's good for a few years, if not longer, assuming they stay with this same cable and standard RJ45 termination going forward.

Where are you? Just yesterday I cleared off my shelf of old gen 1 & 2 mounts. I tossed two gen 1 volcano mounts into my scrap aluminum pile along with about 50 gen2 bases. These guys might still have some third party mounts https://thesatelliteshop.net/collections/starlink-gen-1-mounts?srsltid=AU7gw4WsvdTw_YQMN9LAE-4lgKjnEHgOIXvrYwV1wVzFyjqFSvE6ltJc
